2014 World Cup draw

For Us All

Recommended Posts

Probably the worst draw i've seen for our group. The only consolation is Portugal are poor defending, and if keep Ronaldo quiet well have a chance.

It does seem yours is the toughest of the three difficult groups ahead of ours and Spain's.

You also have much the worst of the travelling of any team in the tournament, over 7,000 miles isn't it?

Forgot to look at the travel, so aren't to sure. The group was hard enough with Germany and Ghana, who have beaten us twice in the past 2 world cups. Couldn't believe it when Portugal was drawn out. I wouldn't even fancy our chances in England's group either.

And this statement is based on a 'gut' feeling no doubt, when just a few seconds research by googling 'Australian sports stadium' would have shown you that there are many over 40,000 and some 50,000 some 60,000 and 100,000 that are already used for association football (sometimes as well as other sports). The pitch areas allow interchange of sports, oval or otherwise.

Of course, it could depend how many fingers you have on that hand.

Australia / NZ deserve a world cup at some point and will eventually get one, maybe about 2046 at this rate.

Nope.

The likes of the MCG will be out of use as well as the AFL season is in full swing during June and July. Grounds have to have a minimum of 40 000 capacity just to host WC group games. By my reckoning, there are 5 grounds which fulfil that criteria in that list including the MCG. There is no way Australia can host a World Cup at short notice.

I think the Germans have the toughest by a long way

Portugal struggled to qualify, USA arent that good (we just made them look it) and Ghana arent much better than costa rica.

I would argue that having uruguay and costa rica, both acclimatized to the weather in south america makes our group more difficult. I think the book makers agree.
