Mediocre Indie Bands You Liked

Self explanatory really.

 

Were you a fan of Menswear? Partial to a bit of Shed Seven? Did fancy Louise Wener or Sonya from Echobelly?

 

Confess all...

Louis Wener was, and still is, a fine figure of a woman. Always preferred Sleeper to Echobelly too.

 

There were a lot of indetekit bands around in the mid to late 90's. Shed Seven, Embrace, The Seahorses, Hurricane Number 1, Long Pigs, etc etc, all much of a muchness, but still all vastly superior to the dirge that today's generation serve up.

 

One abiding memory of the period was being in The Stage (I still refuse to call it the Sugarmill), and The Sneaker Pimps playing. They went down like a dose of bad diarrhoea, and then went on to be quite successful.

Sleeper were awesome, although I'm always a sucker for a woman with a guitar. More recently, The Long Blondes took over that role for me but they've knocked it on the head now as well.

 

I remember seeing Kenicke at The Stage in the mid 90s, rubbish but I got my album signed :-) Also the Shirehorses at Staffs Uni who were very funny.

Never cared much for Louise. My main indie crushes were Marijne from Salad and Crackers from Saint Etienne.

Primal scream weren't an average indie band! There most rock album also came out after screamadelica which was more dancey. I hate dance music but loved primal scream.

Hey, the thread is called "Mediocre Indie Bands You Liked"

 

Irrespective of whether they're indie or not, Gene I expect to be listening to 'til I die.

Love Embrace particularly the magnificently overproduced first album. I'm not a singer but you just cant help singing along to virtually everything. The hook lines are without equal.

 

Another fave are Teenage Fanclub , their greatest hits album is the best one of that type.

Yes she was. She also did Channel 4's Glasto coverage one year (1995?).

 

I think we're all doing Ride and Teenage Fanclub a bit of a disservice by calling them mediocre.

 

The lead singer from the Longpigs was Mark Fisher's (former SOT Central MP) stepson.
