Whatever the reasons or decision why the hell cant the club tell them.... instead of just ignoring them [and others]... its like hiding the bills behind the clock.... it wont just go away..... at least show a little respect and courtesy.

Clubs use ex players for hospitality. Don't Stoke use players like Jackie Marsh? Man U use Grenhoff? Wolves use Bull. I suppose it's what happens when your chairman is only a recent supporter.

I agree jjj. Some of our current players have played more than these "legends"

 

This is an ex-players association that raises money for the club, nothing to do with the much hackyned phrase "Legends"

 

In my opinion it gives the club a bit of substance.

 

I suppose its the lack of respect that seems to be acceptable these days thats a shame.

Apologies if I've missed this but how many tickets per match do the ex players get? If its more than two (player + guest) then maybe they are falling into the hands of others who should be paying an entrance fee.

Reading some of the comments, it makes me wonder how on earth we have managed to get the Roy Sproson statue.

My opinion for what it is worth. Some of the ex players who attend on what some on here term freebies,played in an era where the wages they received were nowhere what are paid out today,most are now senior citizens,doubt to many are wealthy people,all of them must have strong feelings for Port Vale and having had the pleasure of speaking to a few of them,it is sad to see the clubs stance on this matter.

Still in the views of some, its much better to have a few thousand empty seats and no ambassadors for the club !

Dont disagree in the slightest, seems strange Smurf commented on it at the SC meeting but then has allegedly not replied directly to the association.

I am very disappointed with the vale with what they have done to the old players,every club I have been to always lay on things for the old players,it's always nice to listen to their stories,and they did lots of things for charity,it's very sad that the vale don't seem to want to have anything do them very sad. 100% right. These guys also did a lot with Port Vale in the community, and other stuff as Rob mentioned - all on a voluntary basis. To portray them as free loaders is pathetic. They're trying to give a grand for the disabled stand ***, for anyone who can be arsed to read the story. Not angling for freebies. The least they deserve is respect.
