Bert Trautmann dies

Recommended Posts

Obviously too young to have seen him but read his autobiography on holiday once, and it was a fantastic book.

Really inspiring story, fantastic how he was kept as a prisoner in England but fell in love with the country and decided to stay.

RIP Bert

Bob Wilson tweeted, "Amazing man who helped bring our warring countries closer together."

I agree with that. Having been born soon after the war in 1949, I grew up in a world that was still suffering bitterness towards Germany. He helped show that it was a nation made up of real people just like us.

God bless him.
