Wonga could l be called a "scum company" because:

 

their business model largely revolves around finding people who are unable to pay back the borrowed capital

they don't do enough checks that people are able to pay before lending so are irresponsible lenders

they are knowingly exploiting the lack of regulation in this field

they are exploiting people who have no other lending options available when as responsible lenders they should point them towads debt management advice

etc

etc

 

Most aren't stupid they are desperate and as a lender Wonga has a responsibility to it's customers and potential customers. There is a place for payday lenders but not like this

Wonga will be profitable from those people who need a temporary loan and despite the interest will pay back. But they and other lenders of their type are a major problem. People who need loans and can afford repayment deserve a better service than this in our economy. Those who can't afford such loans are likely to need assistance in other ways and should get that not further loans and aggressive bailiffs etc.

 

Last week, as treasurer of a charity, I paid a £750 donation to assist a mother to meet the court fees needed to achieve bankruptcy. She had over £15,000 in debts. It is unbelievable that once debts reach that level they can never be cleared without outside assistance because of the fee. I propose a 99% tax on the loan by loan profit of lenders who charge annual rates of say more than 50%.
