  1. Yeah, football fans want to see a winning team which excites. Pay for decent players brings in higher crowds. We don't go the match to look at a scoreboard. Which we don't use properly anyway because we can't afford the software. I certainly don't care about all the community guff that we bang on about. That'll get us up the table. Does it though? We get higher crowds for a period but to be winning at this level guaranteed you have to invest far beyond our means because quite simply there are some far bigger clubs here, League Two anything less than promotion/play offs is a failure for us due to size but this is a different ball game altogether, so we will have to find ways to do it unless we can find an oil baron or something to throw millions a year away (and then when they get bored/leave we end up with a debt ridden club with huge outgoings and no likely saviour without administration).
  2. I don't know, I would think it will require support from the council etc but no reason why it can't if so.
  3. February is a big month as we will pretty much close the backlog of games off and have some very winnable games (Fleetwood Home and Away, Stevenage, Orient, Lincoln Home, Reading Away, Cheltenham Away) so 4 games v current bottom 4, 1 against Lincoln who are massively out of form, Stevenage who we should of beaten a few weeks back, Orient are in form but newly promoted and a tough trip to Peterborough. We will know a lot more come Feb 27th of where we are heading I would think. 3 wins minimum would be the requirement. 4 ideally.
  4. No the fact that we had to borrow the money for a scoreboard that we don't really need and we are scrapping the money together for the toilets. I couldn't care less about the campus that'll never happen. Just a smoke screen to divert the attention away from another poor transfer window. Surely the scoreboard as it get full use with advertising ends up then paying for itself and longer term makes money which is then another investment? These things take time, no one can state we haven't invested in ways we haven't certainly since the 90's in the club... granted its not all gone on the squad but rightly the infrastructure which may take years but once complete would surely see us far more sustainable and able to invest more in the squad (Youth Team/Campus/Facilities/Scoreboard/advertising). The issue is football fans want the here and now, sure if we are 2-0 down tomorrow I will be grumbling about us not being competitive etc but with a level head we've had a lot to do and improve to avoid being purely reliant on a sugar daddy.
  5. I think Fleetwood and Carlisle will go, they literally need play off form to survive. Cheltenham still have a big task but the other spot is anyones from 12th down really. Charlton in free fall, Shrewsbury just dont score goals, Reading will stay up if they don't fire sale but that will probably be decided this week, if Azeez and Smith go then you'd think that would be curtains, but otherwise they are in good form. We have the games in hand and the form is good (3 wins 2 draws in 7) keep that up we will cruise to safety but we can't afford a poor second half season like last season or we'd be the ones to go. Long as we win 2 in every 7 games with the odd draw we would stay up so it isn't a huge ask but can't take the foot off the gas or be complacent.
  6. I dont think we are in the same boat as last January at this stage, we've not lost any key players who were permanents at this stage and replacing the 4 loanees with 5 more assuming 2 more come in. Last year we signed a half fit Matty Taylor on deadline day and Aaron Donnelly on loan who ended up playing out of position every week to replace Connor Hall. Brad Walker and Harry Charsley. We've lost Conlon who wasnt playing, Arblaster and replaced by Weir who was outstanding last season for Morecambe, Devine for Gore who is as highly rated, Kofi Balmer has been replaced by Rhys Williams who has played EPL and Champions League football and you'd expect Thomas to be replaced but he didn't really get much look in anyway. Obviously if we lose a couple of big players this coming few days and dont replace then we will be in a different situation though.
  7. Assume Debrah will be good to go for this so would like to see him Lowe marshaling and Williams Massey and Grant full back Gore if he signs with Weir Chislett Wilson and assuming still here Uche Portsmouth have been in poor form, 3 losses in 6 including defeat to Cheltenham, Orient and Bristol Rovers, have drawn at lowly Exeter and Fleetwood recently also so are not in the imperious form that they were so its certainly a game we should be looking to get a positive result in... this does mean Crosby needs to avoid this first half backing off we seem to do against the higher flying clubs and go for them whilst they are low on confidence and not give them a head start. Think we will get a point here 1-1.
  8. Since settled in the team our goals for have rapidly improved... he has given Wilson space to play and allows Chislett more space by purely occupying defenders. Would rather have him than not.
  9. Looks likely if O'Rourke is on it but IF yes, would in my view mean we need a target man as well as a goal scorer. Assume Young is the goal scorer we want.
  10. Losing Uche does mean we probably have to go back to the slower passing model rather than direct style as we have no hold up at the top,
  11. Not sure that is totally fair, we often don't hear many rumours these days on who is signing.., Weir came out the blue, as did Devine etc.
  12. He was offered decent money at Posh to sign a new deal and rejected that too so think his wage demands are way beyond us.
  13. Clarke-Harris didn't sign in the end, they couldnt agree wages. Strange decision for me but if we do let him go and he goes Wycombe I will like to think we would have the sense not to allow it until next week and not repeat the Anthony Grant situation where he is playing against us days after leaving.
  14. We should be in for Cole Stockton? He's not deemed good enough for Burton to farm him out on loan who are below us?!
  15. Loans are a massive part of EFL squads and in fairness we only had 4 first half of the season of which 2 were regulars so its not like we've heavily relied on it, most sides who do well often have a couple of big influences by Loan players, Elliott Anderson and the Stoke centre half at Rovers a couple of years back ,McAtee at Barnsley this season etc etc. We've had a lot of loan players in the past but this is the first time we have actually had 2 or 3 that have really worked out and been a huge hit, of often looked on in envy as to how certain clubs seem to fall on good loan players regularly whilst we end up with the Thierry Small and Liam McCarron's more often than not so surely its a positive thing? Its been a pleasure watching the talent of Arblaster and Devine running our midfield, the Mansfield game for example they were unplayable and would rather have 5 months of them doing that than none at all.
  16. He came on for them the other week Donley, really highly rated like Alfie but a striker I think, decent replacement for Thomas though.
  17. Down to Newcastle, if like Devine for example with us they want to test him at a higher level.
  18. Assuming Ojo isnt back assume it will be Sang and bring in Weir for Devine then Chislett in the 10 but leaves us an injury away from a big problem there.
  19. Wonder if we will be looking at the lad from Newcastle Crewe had on loan, he is a midfielder isn't he? Recalled yesterday and had rave reviews.
  20. Not seen any rumours on Devine? Need to keep him ideally or we will be in a mess midfield wise! Need a Wing Back still, a problem position for us in recent seasons, midfielder to cover (2 if Alfie goes) and a loan Striker or a punt on a promising one on a permanent. A lot depends on how far away Ojo is I guess though, if Devine goes Ojo and Weir with Chislett in the 10 isn't the end of the world.
  21. Tattoo gives it away, good signing on paper and a decent upgrade you'd think.
  22. Hannant was decent enough for the level we were at when he played for us, went on to win promotion and seemingly be highly rated the following season, gone full circle via Colchester and Dundee to Gateshead now though, dont think he ever let us down and scored a couple of very good goals.
  23. He was decent that first season with no crowds and scored some crackers, tore Ricardo Santos to shreds at Bolton away, he was one player I really thought would massively benefit from having the crowds back post Covid season behind closed doors as he would get the crowd going and get the noise behind him but just didn't hit those heights again for us. Was really disappointed, he was the one I was most looking forward to watching play for us in the flesh who I expected to get me off my seat.
  24. IF you sign the odd one then why not, he would likely be a low fee/wage and if he develops into a good striker for us great, we have in theory a proper recruiting and scouting system now so would be good to see if it worked out. The fact so many clubs are linked suggests he is widely regarded as worth the chance.
  25. Considering he came in on trial to train with us he hasn't turned out a bad signing! Sad to see him go but understandable and nothing will take away those 2-3 real quality season's he had with us when he was one of League Two's best midfielders, any free kick in shooting range your almost expected him to score at one point and the Barrow goal was sublime. Wish him nothing but the very best of success at Oldham and thank him for his efforts with us. A rare captain to lift a trophy with us (Play Off Final) and gutted for him he was injured as he deserved to play a part.
