  1. Good article on keeping it local. Amoo in the picture as well. Compare and contrast to Carol. https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2021/jun/29/grimsby-town-fc-financial-civic-value?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other
  2. Ón paper tough last two games.
  3. I remember Northern Ireland beating Spain, the rest was a blur.
  4. I imagine a lot of contracts are up at the end of June so a lot of activity 1st July.
  5. I liked Loft, good servant, always put a shift in.
  6. Rudgie was folliclally challenged wasn’t he?
  7. Interesting article, Vale mentioned several times. https://www.theguardian.com/football/2021/jun/08/a-deep-thinker-robert-page-accidental-manager-wales-euro-2020?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other
  8. Signing a player with a connection to Biddulph who’s not quite done it at some similar side like, I dont know, someone like Rotherham or Crewe... nah, that will never turn out well!
  9. Nice one, Rob. Much appreciated.
  10. I suppose, for me the bottom line is success first, standards of behaviour second. That said, I “get” a lot of Ron C’s post. I’d much rather go for a pint with Askey (or Aspo for that matter). I liked his quiet measured manner and the family history with the club. He was doing well till the wheels came of in November and I was gutted he couldn’t turn it round. I hate it when people bad mouth him. I’m also turned off a bit by some of the organisational development speak, the calling the previous regime and there were times early in Clarke’s reign when he was shifting responsibility he should have been taking, though he did stop that. All of that said, What I want from Vale managers isn’t to go for a pint with them, or to like them, it’s for them to be successful so I can embrace to idea that Clarke and Flitcroft are trying something that’s well thought out and that Askey’s history and let’s see how it works out.
  11. I guess if your modus operandi is to get an experienced Director of Football + a manager to do the recruitment the way to compete is going to be by getting value for money out of players who are operating a bit below the radar and inevitably not the obvious candidates from wikipedia searches or fans’ forums. As such I expect people to be underwhelmed right through to August. I won’t be concerned until December if we aren’t seeing a shape and a team that’s greater than the sum of its parts.
  12. I was rooting for Lincoln tbh. Another great success story.
  13. I always thought he was underused at Vale, spare ability as a coach or it seems in recruitment. It will be interesting to see how Northampton go on now.
  14. Both of those were better technically but Griffith beats both of them for character.
  15. I think we never replaced Anthony Griffith as derided as he was at times for what he lacked in finesse.
  16. I think Pope is an interesting one. We’ve relied on him for a couple of seasons past his best and probably put replacing him on the back burner for a bit too long because of his (deserved) legend status. I also think that’s held back the likes of Conlon and Smith in the “local hero” team leader roles. The latter two have to step up to the plate now in that role and we need to unearth a decent young goal scorer... who’s to say Devante won’t step up to that plate with an improved first touch. There’s a few gone who’ve been honest pros at this level but we need to be ambitious for better and there are characters are already at the club who’ll step out of the shadows now.
  17. Classy sign off from a good pro. He’s one of those who was usually a 7/10 unseen stalwart and I wouldn’t have been overly disappointed to keep him, however there are one or two like that where we have to take a bit of a risk to try to get better in if we’re to push for promotion.
  18. Glad Monty has got fixed up, I’ll remember his time at Vale fondly.
  19. I’m sure what he said was far from decent! 😜
  20. If that was an interview for some of the out of contract players, they generally didn’t give a great account of themselves.
  21. We’re going to need a quorum of first choice young ‘uns in the first team so the age of signings is very significant
  22. Give Scott a couple of games in goals, we need to have a look at him and the various records are no longer an issue.
