  1. I did say on here in the week that if we win today the people that have written us off for play offs will be back on the top 7 wagon. We’ve been fortunate with other results but results have gone against us pretty much every week. Performance was very average after the second goal went in. Nice to win by more than one goal which we did in our last win but we kept a clean sheet today. Support was outstanding today, real goosebumps at the end, sounded like there was double the gate. As I’ve said all season, fans need to stop pressing the panic button so quickly. We need these points from the games in hand but we have some real momentum. 8 games unbeaten and we keep pushing.
  2. What a fantastic tribute during what must be a very raw and difficult time. Condolences on your father’s passing, always a sad time when we lose one of the Port Vale family.
  3. I think with this new structure, Carol has also created very clear lines on responsibilities and Flitcroft's isn't being a coach, his role is hands off with the players once they are through the door, to change that and bring him in, in that capacity wouldn't make sense. In Crosby, you have someone who has worked with these players pretty much every day this season, to bring Flitcroft in would create even more change to routine than is necessary. I am one of the neutrals when it comes to where we finish this season. We're unbeaten in 7, if we win on Saturday the mood will change again to optimism amongst the fans that have written the team off this morning. That's how this season has gone. You will never have a season where everything will be in your favour, but I think injuries, a COVID break that we seem to have suffered the most with, Clarke's leave, games being postponed on top of the COVID break creating more mid-week games, less rest for players, collectively have had a big impact on our season and none of it was in our control. All the postponements have been at away grounds too. And I'm sure other clubs have suffered from some of the above but I'm pretty certain not all of them and nowhere to the extent we have experienced. I'm also sympathetic that people spend a lot of money to follow Vale around the grounds and midweek games are especially hard to get to so I understand that the 800+ that went last night have every right to feel disappointed coming away from a game that should have been wrapped up. But like I said above, a win last night and there would have been plenty of play off talk and I don't think the margin at the end of the season is going to be these 2 points.
  4. We were playing catch up to get back into the top 7 before Clarke took leave but I do think his absence has grinded our season to a halt. Certainly not blaming anyone, I think the way the club has handled it has been pretty much perfect but it's such a big loss and it seems like he will be away for a considerable amount of time, I've heard it could be until the summer. I want to emphasise, I'm not pointing fingers, this is completely out of anyone's control but I agree with IC above.
  5. I have the fondest memories of getting a Green 'Un on a Saturday evening in the 90's as a young lad. I remember beating Wrexham at home 3-0 (2nd October 93) and the headline was "It Wrexham" and I stood in the newsagents looking at that front page and wondering if life could get any better than this. And it never did, peaked in that moment, I've been chasing that Green 'Un high ever since.
  6. Whenever they do these articles over multiple pages, its to get more clicks/ad revenue for each page. Instantly invalidates the article.
  7. Are you a motivational speaker by trade?
  8. I think Wilson suits the supporting role better than out and out striker, he's more of a selfless player than a selfish forward, best example is him laying the ball to Woz last night for the first goal, and with the pressure of scoring off he bags which was an instinctive striker finish (obviously). Since coming back from injury he has ran tirelessly, like having two Garrity's on the pitch and it's the chasing down and putting players under pressure that has really helped the team. He seems fitter now than at any point before his injury this season, I noticed his tracking back and sprinting right up until his sub. I really liked him sat behind Harratt and Edmonson and as prolific as Proctor was before he was injured, most of his goals, Wilson played a part in. He is vital to this side, I think the biggest challenge Clarke has is keeping him injury free. With Proctor likely to feature in the team soon, it will be interesting to see Wilson and Proctor back up top again. Carlisle were poor last night, they looked like a team in a relegation fight, but we've struggled against poor teams this season and at home too, but every player stepped up last night. Pett's interceptions and reading of the play was outstanding at times, a real joy to see a Port Vale side play that way and the one touch passing was reassuring that we are getting our confidence back. I'm not getting carried away, still a long way to go and I've always said to never look past the next game but the next one is a massive one. A huge one, we nullified a rampant Forest Green at VP a couple of weeks back and I still think we were much the better team and should have won. We are now unbeaten in 4 games, the January transfer window looks like it's been a success. Three different goalscorers last night too, but none from our starting strikers, I'm not too concerned by this as they had chances and they will be eyeing Proctor's fitness and will be hungry to stake a claim in the starting lineup. Also Cooper is filth. Long way to go
  9. I think these are useful as guides but have they ever been right? Way too many variables that even a computer couldn't predict. A freak injury to a star player can derail a team's season in a freak incident, a manager being sacked etc.
  10. That is a great fact, you can be unlucky and play teams that hit form just as the fixture comes around (Mansfield) or when a new manager comes in and that new manager wave hits but I thought we'd had a tough run in of games this season, considering the injuries and postponements, it's impressive where we are in the table. 60 points up for grabs still, I'm not on elf those that think automatic promotion has sailed, but I'm not hanging my hat on it either. So much more football to go. I think FGR will struggle to maintain their form for the whole season, too many minutes left to play. We should just be taking one game at a time, and building on this 3 match unbeaten run we've put together and hope no momentum has been lost from the cancelled match at the weekend. Get 3 points from tonight and then big JP gets back in the side Saturday and all is well with our season again. Garrity is due another away goal, I think tonight is the night, getting goosebumps thinking about it. Carlisle's form is pretty bad from the last 5 games but they've drawn a few games this season, lost their last 3, a team in freefall with little room between them and bottom of the EFL. Really need to put these away early.
  11. Carol has said the biggest problem with the Lorne Street is finding a new place to put the facilities behind the wall. There is a player's gym there apparently and the players are keen for it to stay, but would be required to be removed to allow the concourse area.
  12. Yeah, he was definitely offside. Martin deserves some credit too, we were under a lot of pressure before Wilson knocked the ball long, Martin steps up when a ball comes into Stevens and he gets his boot on it to prod to Wilson, he also pushed Stevens wide just before that too.
  13. Regarding Walker, he did give the ball away a few times tonight. There was also a moment in the second half. I think it was after we conceded, he let the ball slip past him and Martin had to clean up. i think we missed a Cass type player in the second half. When we had those corners to deal with we needed someone to run it out of danger, too many hoofs back to them, rinse and repeat.
  14. Wilson MOM for me. He was everywhere at times, closing their back line down, putting in tackles, getting his head in, had that shot in the first half on the edge of the box. I thought on Saturday he was alright in patches, tonight he was an animal. Their first shot on target was their goal with 10 minutes to go. We should have won that. Also we should have had a penalty, a very obvious push in the box. I don’t think we’ve had a penalty so far this season. I usually steer clear of Ref watch but he was abysmal tonight. Let FGR get away with a lot. Every time one of our players ran past theirs with the ball they brought them down. Not sure how there were no cards. 3 games unbeaten though and something to build from.
  15. Haha! I'm assuming you get in just before kick off as you've just finished your speech in the Vale dressing room.
  16. If we go 3-5-2 then Amoo won't start but he could feature and I've been frustrated with him at times. We know what he can do, he makes great wide runs and I think he was lively on Saturday but I remember the Amoo that would run at players and take them on. He seems to lack the confidence to do that, receives the ball, passes back and makes a run into open space but in that time their back line has reacted to the build up play. We know he can do it, I'm not sure why he is so reluctant. This isn't an attack on him as I think he offers pace that we lack in Wilson (even though Edmonson surprised me with that burst on Saturday) Desperate for Procter to be fit though.
  17. Apologies for the confusion, I didn't mean an improvement throughout but I think Hall is an improvement over Legge of what has been seen of so far and if people are not entitled to an opinion then what's the point in posting on here if everyone should agree? If there was ever "hell up" from something I posted on here, I'm confident I can give a balanced reason to justify my views. I'm actually really excited for tonight, under previous Port Vale teams in situations where we are navigating out of poor form and we are playing one of the top teams in the league, I would be filled with anxiety, but I'm buoyed by the 2nd half performance on Saturday, I also think the windy conditions and the pitch made it difficult for either side to play football. Not sure if the wind is going to die down by 7:45 or what state the pitch will be in, given Steve has only had 2 and a bit days to provide maintenance but it's going to be a huge test and if the conditions are similar to Saturday, it won't suit FGR either.
  18. With the injuries, Cass injured for the rest of the season and Politic sold by Bolton, I don't think it's a gamble, our hands were forced to act. Rodney showed zero signs of doing anything for us this season, a replacement for him will have to be in the summer, but I'm happy with the business done, it isn't awe-inspiring but of what I've seen so far, it's an improvement on what we've had. Hall is solid, so solid he bends goalposts just from launching into other players, Hussey looks to be improving with every game and we are yet to see Robinson but looks to be on paper a slightly more dynamic Lewis Cass with a pedigree schooling.
  19. Cass will be missed, his ability to carry the ball out from the back was unmatched in the team. His interview hinted towards coming back next season, obviously a lot can change between now and then but I hope this isn't the last we see of him in a Vale shirt.
  20. Hardly, his facts were wrong, no name-calling. if you think that was being blasted then there are some sensitive souls in here. Anyway, looking forward to seeing this new player. A win tomorrow will set us up for some tough fixtures coming up.
  21. There was no blasting in response to his opinion then. I was only using the term you used.
  22. I think it's the unverified method and then the original poster blasting the signing based on incorrect info that was the issue. A bit of Garrity and a bit of Conlon it looks like. With Conlon out I'm speculating he will start tomorrow and he will drop Walker with Pete and Garrity alongside him.
  23. Cooper is replacing Politic so it isn't yet another loan player, we thought we had Politic until the end of the season. The loans that have come in are for injured players, Clarke likes a smaller squad to manage so when he does have a fully fit squad he's going to have more players than he needs.
  24. My comments are balanced. You don’t get promoted because of the size of your stadium or because you deserve it for being a big club. You said we are guaranteed play offs and i pointed out that we absolutely are not. Manage your expectations better because it’s these sorts of ridiculous views that put pressure on the club when they are not met.
  25. I don't want to p*** on your cornflakes but playoffs are definitely not more or less guaranteed. I have faith that we have the right setup at the club but there are way too many variables at play and nobody knows when this bad run will end and things that are not helping - injuries, suspensions, the form of other clubs (Mansfield's is a great example of the season being a marathon and not a sprint, but they could fall away in coming weeks). We dropped 3 points against a very poor Salford side at home, which I'm hoping was our rock bottom and we are coming up from. There is a long way to go and it's great to be positive but we are not guaranteed playoffs.
