  1. Surely the scoreboard as it get full use with advertising ends up then paying for itself and longer term makes money which is then another investment?
These things take time, no one can state we haven't invested in ways we haven't certainly since the 90's in the club... granted its not all gone on the squad but rightly the infrastructure which may take years but once complete would surely see us far more sustainable and able to invest more in the squad (Youth Team/Campus/Facilities/Scoreboard/advertising).
The issue is football fans want the here and now, sure if we are 2-0 down tomorrow I will be grumbling about us not being competitive etc but with a level head we've had a lot to do and improve to avoid being purely reliant on a sugar daddy.
Yeah, football fans want to see a winning team which excites. Pay for decent players brings in higher crowds. We don't go the match to look at a scoreboard. Which we don't use properly anyway because we can't afford the software. I certainly don't care about all the community guff that we bang on about. That'll get us up the table.
  2. The previous scoreboard was horrendous and didn't function as it should. Was it fundamental that we got a new screen, no - however, it was likely seen as a sponsorship opportunity to Autonet but also to Vale. Matt Hancock said in his interview a few weeks ago that they want to do the toilets but they've got plans to do a complete rebuild/remodel - it makes sense to hold fire on completing that work until the season finishes.
Complete waste of money. As is the campus. Why can't we just concentrate on the first team? We can't even finish the lorne Street Stand, so why are we banging on about a bloody campus. Pie in the sky.

  3. How do you work that one out? Just because they've stated that the market is too expensive? I'd agree with them, when you consider that Will Goodwin left Cheltenham to go to Oxford for a reported £400K fee. We're trying to become sustainable and we've only just started this model of investing in our youth, which then allows us to be sell and reinvest - we've got to allow it time to develop before we start to see that coming to fruition.
Do we really want our owner having to pump in millions each year just to keep us afloat. There was a recent article about Lincoln are due to post losses of circa £3m for this season....is that the model you really want!
No the fact that we had to borrow the money for a scoreboard that we don't really need and we are scrapping the money together for the toilets. I couldn't care less about the campus that'll never happen. Just a smoke screen to divert the attention away from another poor transfer window.

  4. Please, someone reassure me I'm not going nuts.
Listening to Ale & Vale. Dedicated and passionate fans who attend many more games than me.
They open up by saying they've 'never felt further away from the club', and that they were done going to away games. They felt more connected to the club when we were relegated under Brown with Smurthwaite at the helm as he would communicate more than Carol does.
I genuinely couldn't believe what I was hearing. I've criticised the club communications in recent years, and rightly so, but we had two fans forums over the summer, Flitcroft gave an in-depth interview to The Valiant a few weeks ago. There is a regular Supporters Summit which we were all free to sign up for.... what do we want? Carol to give us running commentary on her thoughts and views? What would we gain?
I really value knowing what happens at the club, but I can't think of much that I feel I need to know right now which I don't know already from Flitcroft's interview + the Supporters Summit which I signed up to.
One of the A&V lads doesn't feel valued anymore, as he doesn't know what goes on at the club, and he wouldn't go anymore if he hadn't already paid for his ST. He's 'signing out'.
I can't believe that me, moaner-in-chief, is saying this... but do we not all need to calm down?
3 wins in 5, highest average attendance for 23 years (and one of the highest for 50+ years), QF of a major competition, academy products playing in greater numbers than ever. Our league position, whilst not great, is still higher than we've finished in 13 of the last 15 years. The football *can* be dull but we've scored 8 in 3 home games.
It isn't great, but it is without a shadow of a doubt much better than a majority of the tripe I've seen over 20 years. We're in the healthiest position the club has been in during the 21st century.
Not sure what's happened in the last few weeks. I feel like I've gone from one of the most fervently miserable to one of the most optimistic, even though I'm not exactly jumping for joy.
They'll change their tune if we win the next game. Uche got an unfair battering yesterday. He's crap but he gave it his all the other day.

  5. To be fair I think if you don’t have a season ticket and have to pay 20 something pound to watch drivel then I do understand it. Not what I will do but I do get it
I agree but not turning up purely because of Crosby doesn’t make sense. Ok, you could argue it is because the football is crap, but then I’d probably not have seen us since September otherwise!
It's Crosbys style of play that's the problem.
  6. Have you been out of the country for a while?  We’ve spent over £100k on the playing surface over the summer with a similar amount to be spent next summer.  That’s been well reported but you somehow missed it.
If you kept up to date you’d also know that the reason a new roof hasn’t been installed on the Railway loos is because the money is being put to a complete rebuild early next year rather than a patch up.
We’ve invested in team.  Whether that recruitment is good or bad is not down to Carol.
She’s appointed a football person in Flitcroft to make the decisions on the football side of things, then there’s the manager and staff.  She isn’t picking the team or coaching the players.  Plus having owned the football club for a few years now she probably knows more about running a real football club the you and me put together.
These are all facts.  Come back when you’ve got something sensible to say rather than the crap you’re currently spouting.
Buck stops at the top, I'm afraid.
