  1. Off topic but kind of related. Is Dan Gore still at the club? Can’t remember the last time he was mentioned
  2. Good post. Fact is, recent away performances have been better than home ones. Maybe the atmosphere at VP has been negative for the players. Up to the fans now to create the ‘Swindon buzz’, and save the moaning for after the season end.
  3. Not really qualified to answer whether we need a DoF as such, because I’m not sure how important the role is at this stage. A lot of the good stuff going on behind the scenes is now set up. I realise it needs to be managed, but couldn’t that be part of the CEOs job? We certainly need to focus on recruitment, and invest in that area, and possibly funds for that could partly be generated by NOT replacing the DoF. Good recruitment now will be so beneficial to the young squad, and would help to get the most out of their potential.
  4. I wonder if Carol subscribes to Football League World…
  5. Jason Lowe may be the first person to play league football on a zimmer frame
  6. I think Carol needs to stop thinking that football is a mysterious business, which needs to be explained to her by some self proclaimed guru. She is a successful business person, and she must use her business head to look at the issues objectively. In business terms, the product is not fit for purpose, and needs a complete overhaul. The customers are loyal, but losing faith. (I was astounded by the loyalty shown yesterday, viz the pre match positivity, when put in the context of the ‘customer experience’ since 29th December) She then has to review the performance of all her key managers, and decide who among them has shown that they are capable of implementing the required overhaul. She then needs to look at the whole structure of the business, and decide if there is a better way to run it. This message is in lieu of my response to the survey asking about my visit to Vale Park yesterday
  7. Got home today and found an email in my inbox asking me to rate my Vale Park experience Wwhere to begin?
  8. I’m not generally one for conspiracy theories, but this has a ring of truth. He seems quite vocal on the pitch, and was certainly a stand out at Cheltenham. If we don’t intend to play him though, why get him in at all?
  9. Can anyone on here explain the treatment of Lopata? When I’ve seen him, he looks like our most capable defender, then he disappears. Why is he not playing more?
  10. Back on topic. I thought yesterday’s game was the poorest quality for a long time. Shrewsbury were awful, and we were worse. In terms of playing quality, if you took out Wilson and their no. 11, it was hard to imagine there were professional footballers out there.
  11. Yes Paul. But Vale fans always need a scapegoat
  12. I did not see any evidence of players failing to try yesterday. Ojo is nowhere near fit, and is playing because there is nobody else. The fault is in recruitment, which has led tous playing Massey or a 17 year old at CF. i was a bit surprised by the ‘not fit to wear the shirt’ stuff at the end. I understand the frustration, but attacking the guys who were out there was perhaps missing the point
  13. I’m not a huge fan of Ojo, but you have to factor in that he is playing when nowhere near match fit. Ditto Garrity. And probably Chislett. Because we have so little quality in the squad, the better players have been run into the ground. It all comes back to recruitment. The story of this season is that the two loan midfielders performed above and beyond. Coupled with Garrity’s goals and Ripley’s goalkeeping, we got to November in an unrealistic position. The DoF got lucky, because these factors covered up the woeful inadequacy of the recruitment. Then we get a couple of injuries, the two lads get recalled, and then we have the farce of January. Williams and Gore were sold to us as examples of the DoF’s acumen, then he panicked and we ended up with Mighten and no striker. Im a fan of 35 years, and have been through the Bratt years, the mystery buyers, Norman and Ribeiro, but I have never been as disappointed in my club as I was during the second half last night. It’s probably about context. Carol came in all guns blazing, and raised my hopes, to the point where I thought she would drive Port Vale in a sustainable way, and they would become a club to be proud of. It worked for a while (Etihad, Swindon, Wembley, good young home-grown players etc etc). But over the last 18 months, it has looked more and more like a vanity project. The community stuff is very laudable, but it seems to have become the main focus. Maybe the OBE is to blame..
  14. I remember when we used to joke about Agent Jones and Agent O’Neil. I suspect the Coates family have successfully put their agent into PVFC
  15. Does anyone think Gore will play for us again?
  16. Lowe can do a job in defence, but it is totally unrealistic to expect him to play in midfield
  17. Very balanced article, which should carry a lot of weight with the ownership, partly because Rob is a respected figure, and mainly because he has avoided the name-calling and finger-pointing of some of the more excitable posters
  18. I’d have been happier with Lowe, Smith, Lopata and Jones as a back 4 yesterday. Massey and Grant cannot defend or stop crosses. If they are to play, they should be attackers. Jones was a weird one yesterday. He seemed to spend a lot of time as a wingback, leaving Grant nowhere. wingback is 2 jobs in one. With the limitations of the squad we have available, it would surely be better to ask players to do ONE DEFINED JOB, rather than the current mess. I agree we have no fullbacks (except Lowe). But we have no wingbacks either.
  19. Also,Walters and Weir must wonder what’s going on if they can’t get a midfield slot ahead of a league 2 right back
  20. Just a question after yesterday. We had no fit genuine wingbacks, but we played the system anyway. Why?
  21. My Takeaway from yesterday was that we had a threadbare team, put together quite intelligently, who worked terrifically hard for each other. The crowd played its part too. the rest of this season won’t be pretty, but on yesterdays showing, it will be exciting.
  22. What's your point? I’m responding ironically to your rather silly post
