It's no use crying over spilt milk. I think there are many intelligent supporters on here who would have exercised better judgement in signing players within budget the last two seasons. But I'm hopeful lessons have been learned after this game is over.

Its interesting Warren and you hear it  said in other walks of life and not just football that lessons will be learnt.  What always frustrates me in these type of situations is that no one ever asks why do the lessons need to be learnt ?  Its been there in flashing red lights screaming out " Tales of the Bleedingly obvious" for all of this season and a large part of last season too.

It took a deputation of Vale fans  to point out The Tales of the Bleedingly obvious to Carol as it appears she has been watching the Emperors New Clothes starring Flickers, That really, really worries me.

The table doesn't lie after 44 games. All over bar the shouting.

Not a Phenomenal in sight and following the reassuring words from our DOF I wasnt contemplating relegation. Just hope the Players wives arent responsible for Summer recruitment, it would finish me off.

Does that make it right? Why follow the trend? Why waste a wage?

Do yourself a favour, if you’re employed by OUR football club, and listen to Tony Pulis on Undr The Cosh.
He touches on how the manager should be buying the players and it doesn’t work when someone else buys the players.

It’s absolutely scandalous that this was allowed to happen here at Vale. Where a DOF bought the players. A DOF told the manager how to play. A DOF told the manager what formation we will use. A DOF told the manager we are playing our own kids to make money and taking on other teams kids on loan to build relationships. Flitcroft may as well just sat in the dugout every Saturday with the influence and input he was having!

And people say “even Forest Green have one”.
    Yeah.
    Look where they are.

If it’s Moore or whoever. Let that man identify the targets HE wants and nobody else. Let him have the say in contract length.

It worked for over 100 years.
We are about to go into the 4th division.
We’ve already got a ridiculous amount of staff employed at this club.

I’ve always said in the lower leagues managers can complicate football with their modern day coaching ideas.
I will also say that owners can also complicate football with a DOF, multiple football scientists, other staff who we really don’t need.
    Just keep it simple.

In the last two decades we’ve had Micky Adams and Darrell Clarke who have achieved real success.
Clarke probably won’t give us time of day anymore but somebody at the club should be going cap in hand to Micky Adams. Asking for his advice.
Even swallow the (what seems to be from the outside) the pompous attitude and go to Popey, Yatesy, Duffy, Hughesy, Birchall, Griff, Dicko, and others and get their advice.

What would be an absolute catastrophe is signing “nice lads”, putting little videos out of them basically being told what to say when they sign, hiring a DOF who says I’m signing the players, we will play tippy tappy crap, not put in a tackle, and our formation will be 3-5-2 every week.

Been there. Done that. It’s been more of an on field circus this year than under Smurthwaite and I never ever thought I’d say that.

Keep it simple. Manager. His targets. His players. Leave him to manage. Stay away from a DOF. Surround ourselves with good old ex pros who love the club who can offer a touch of advice here and there as we go and let’s get back to being Port Vale Football Club again instead of Port Vale Corporate business.

All the fans care about is the football.
That’s the biggest learning curve that’s needed.

Nailed it, nothing more to say. Spunk Trumpet for DOF ?🤣

We are effectively playing a Championship side which hasn't yet been promoted.

When making comments about the abilities of our talented teenage players, who have so far experienced only (part of) a handful of senior games, it would be fair and constructive to remember that context.

Championship ready, unfortunately its Peterborough who are.

  6. I must admit to having minimal interest in the Premier League whereas the Lower leagues I feel are more relevant to the team I support. I always enjoy reading Warrens comments  including the ones on Tranmere but he is not my Tranmere mate that I refer to 😁

Smurthwaite hasn't had any involvement in football for five years. He sold both Port Vale and Liberty Way (Northwich Victoria's stadium). I've not heard of any creditable reports of him getting back involved in football, let alone a club the size of Tranmere Rovers.

If my Tranmere mate tells me any more I will pass on 😁

BBC Radio Stoke saying the formation could be:

Ripley - Sang, Smith, Iacovitti - Plant, Garrity, Ojo, Chislett, Shorrock - Massey, Loft

I think this again shows the inbalance of the squad and the poor recruitment in that Sang and Massey are both playing out of position in that formation.

Phil Bowers said he had heard its reverting to a back 3 today.

  9. Not a fan of Massey as he is often inconspicuous in every game he plays apart from Wigan at home this season. He had a point to prove and proved it that day, hope he does the same today. Unfortunately we dont play Wigan often enough to see the best of Massey. Lets himself and the fans down badly most weeks he plays.

Clubs can be wealthy and have the most expensive players.  But if they don't play as a team and for each other, then it wont work.

Seen in several rich clubs and too many divas in them.

Stockport are going well, but I do take your point about signing the right type of player. Having said that Money seems to be working far better than the Process.
