  1. I fully appreciate what Carol and Kevin have done for our club, love them to bits.  The letter makes a decent read and lays out some valid points without really explaining why the squad is so poor right now which is the basic issue here.  Recruitment, overall poor since we gained promotion and only one person to blame for that.  It’s a real shame that for all the undoubted good it’s the football side that’s come unstuck.  Having thought about it I’ll stick with Carol, which means sticking with Flitcroft.  I’ll see who we appoint as manager and his staff and the impact they have on the team, hopefully with the addition of a free agent or two, although I’m not holding my breath on that one. For me supporting the team is more important right now than one individual in the club so I aim to back the team and won’t be shouting for Flitcroft’s head until we’re mathematically relegated, which I think is nailed on, at which point I’ll jump on the band wagon but not before.  This isn’t to denigrate those who wish to protest in any way.  Quite clearly the guy has shafted us but Flitcroft leaving now won’t have any impact on us staying up apart from improving the atmosphere short term.

I've worked out how to add the vote from this topic to the sidebar. You should see it on the RH side across the forum (desktop users only - it won't show on mobile).

It shows on my mobile at the top of the page.

This feels worse than at any time in our recent history. Carol has come in & saved the club from Smuthwaite. She has put in millions & been totally let down by Flitcroft & his cronies. Hopefully Carol remains as committed to the club as ever, but a total rebuild is required after our almost certain relegation.

    Spot on assessment.

That performance was worst than Fleetwood.  There is a deep problem at our club. Is there no money left ?  Has the ambition gone ? Is the tail wagging the dog ?  There are a few uncontracted centre forwards out there with track records including Connor Wickham, and Gary Madine, maybe short term options because at the moment I dont see where a goal is coming from.  Either do something now or as much as I don't want to think about it we need to be league 2 ready.

As bad as it was it wasn’t worse than Fleetwood.  Orient, whilst no world beaters, are a better side in better form.  Fleetwood looked like a pub side.  We also showed a modicum of spirit tonight, something that was completely lacking on Saturday.

Difference being what ex vale players we’ve had as manager in the past either had no experience or poor standard of managerial experience likes of aspin, glover, brown etc completely not the case with wild thing

There is no difference.  The odds are that the next manager is likely to fail, it’s just a matter of how long it takes.  Just occasionally a manager is successful, and on the back of that leaves for bigger things, but this is very rare and would be a very short list in our case.  The only thing an ex player gives is a bit of cosy affinity which buys them a bit more patience from the fans.

Firstly I'll admit I was genuinely gutted Crosby left, I genuinely thought he was the best option to keep us in the league this year....not that it matters any more not does my opinion, I hope I'm wrong and the club has a plan that can keep us up this season, but hopefully not one that will sacrifice the long term plan, and good efforts that have been put in.

I think the decisions Vale management must prioritize is the long term Sustainability of the club,  as this is more important than short term success.

I applaud the current regime for their victories in community outreach, for their social media efforts, for the efforts in building an academy that nurtures local talent and grants them chances in 1st team football. I also like the role of taking lads on loan if they have a good attitude, and it's done in balance with the core squad.

For me...t here's no rush to have instant success on the pitch, and I'd rather well thought decisions than panic buys and signings. I do believe we need to introduce some more experienced players for next season. Experienced players in the last few years of their playing years, who can still graft on the pitch, but also take mentor roles, and possible future coach roles, football league veterans.

Regarding the next manager... well... somewhere in between Darren Clarke and Andy Crosby is a type of manager that may actually be able to bring balance this club. One can but hope.

If I was the club, I wouldn't write off interviewing people with the option of starting at the end of the season...  Fresh start and that. If it's league 2 we have to build from again then so be it.

    Good luck Port Vale FC.

    Keep the faith

All well and good but having enjoyed a rare promotion why smash the whole thing up for want of a few signings.  All the things you’ve outlined we could have and be stable on the pitch.  What’s the point in building your house without foundations?  The foundations of a football club is actually the team not the other stuff.  This fact seems to have become obscure to the hierarchy who’ve been blindsided by all the backslapping for their good work off the field.  Port Vale is a FOOTBALL club.  Yes, you can use it as a vehicle for other things, the wider community for example, but primarily it is there for it’s fans.

I usually don't but I just fancy that duo to help get us all united again.

    Who would you like ?

I don’t have any preference.  It’s an unenviable task, hence I’m never in any hurry to replace any manager, although the time has clearly come in this instance.  Suffice to say the new incumbent will need a huge slice of luck, something which Crosby lacked.

  8. Pot luck whoever we go for.  It’s a complete lottery, although we could make things slightly easier by appointing someone who’s currently employed and enjoying some success, but this is unlikely to happen.

  9. The sad thing is that for the want of a few players, which we’ve had ample time to sign, the wheels have come off.  For all his failings I still believe Crosby would’ve had us higher up the league if a) we had a balanced, adaptable squad, and b) had a better run with injuries.  Nobody would’ve minded too much not being in the play offs, the toilet situation a minor blip, the lack of comms, perceived or otherwise, wouldn’t have mattered.  Fans weren’t expecting the earth, just to see on improvements on the pitch.  How hard was it for the powers that be to see this?

Yeah a totally healthy series of events at the open and transparent community club.

Open and transparent community club?  Why would you expect to know why someone lost their job in any walk of life?  Not only that, you’re saying they should potentially breach confidentiality agreements and data protection laws.  We can only speculate on the reason for his departure, there may have been whispers.  If CG was sacked he won’t want the reasons known and if he was made redundant, which seems unlikely given that the role still exists, he would’ve had some financial package which would’ve almost certainly involved both parties agreeing to confidentiality.  If he’s simply retired the nature of the job, the information he was privy to, would mean that the club would insist on this type of agreement.  As I said, we can only speculate on the reason for his departure but the truth is you want to know rather than need to know..
