I don't think the squad was too bad at the start of the season. We signed Loft on deadline day which was a mistake and knowing we needed one more, signed Uche which was also a mistake. We were also missing a left back after letting Benning go.

With a half decent manager and coaching staff and DF had brought in a left back for Bennings wage and a better striker on deadline day combining Uche and Lofts wages we'd be sitting comfortably in mid table.

The biggest mistake was not interviewing for the managers job last summer and getting a full reset

The squad was decent in the half of the season. We looked good at times but hamstrung with a defence which suffers lapses in concentration and makes stupid mistakes. We just needed a penalty box striker and we should have been comfortable mid table.

With a very weak midfield we now look horrendous even with a manager who has a good track record.

James Wilson / Jamie Proctor / Tom Pett / Mal Benning / Harry Charsley / Connor Hall / Dennis Politic / Lewis Cass / Funso Ojo / Ellis Harrison / Will Forrester / Ethan Chislett / Connor Ripley / Mitch Clarke / Alex Iacovitti / Tom Sang / Uche Ikpeazu / Jesse Debrah / Jayson Leutwiler - would all like to thank you for your support!

There have also been players who most of us thought would be decent signings, but just didn't work out for us, for whatever reasons. And, of course, there are loan players and our own youngsters who have been much better than "a disgrace to their profession)!!!

Maybe your memory just needed jogging?

You took a sabbatical Tony? Welcome back.

If you re read the thread of posts you completely miss the point. I'm talking about senior signed players this season, those experienced lads who will be in prime and above in their careers. For avoidance of doubt lads 27>

They have been a disgrace. Happy to break those players down for you if you're still unsure what and who I'm referring to.

No I won't be saying you're not a proper fan or any of that kind of nonsense because it's up everyone to decide how they spend their own money. We've all wasted it this season, fans and owners.

I'd describe watching us as a war of attrition, thats what the players have done to us this season but if you love the club, you have the time and money to go Tuesday this is the time to show it. Its not the Wembley game, its not the playoff semi finals, its not Man City away, its not Middlesboro in the cup, its not Sheff Wed away, its not Derby away,  its tomorrow at Vale Park.

The future funding of the club for the next 3 years depends on tomorrow.

As Rob Page used to preach.... one more round.

    Reminder…..Get down Vale Park tomorrow.

It was myself that posted about this rumour a week or so ago. Looks like things are moving pretty quickly. I can confirm that the person who I heard the original news from re the windfall, also said Carol will be spending at the Vale, hence her not being interested in selling. She wants to leave a legacy.

    You're welcome!

This was my original post for those who missed it.

Will be great for the club if you are correct again,

We just need to stay in L1 by any means necessary.

What happens with the staff (and their costs) who have a joint role between Synetics and Port Vale?

No longer the case. Those employees are fully employed by the club. Contracts where changed at the end of last year

From all the children who play in academies at the age of nine, fewer than 1% will make it professional at any level of the game. Only 180 from 1.5 million youth footballers in the UK are likely to make it all the way to the Premier League, or 0.012%.

The odds aren’t much better for making it as a pro at any level. What that means is despite what we think, these players are the elite (statistically). So why do they seem so devoid of confidence and ability given the odds they beat to even get on the pitch?

I can’t believe they are ‘rubbish’ despite how it looks, but I do think twe need to make sure players fit our system of play, have the right character traits, are hard working are willing to learn, and a have desire to improve. At our level they can’t retire at 35 as millionaires and it’s a precarious living as a lower league player that I honestly don’t envy. So they should be sweating blood in every training session, and leaving everything on the pitch after 90 minutes. If they need the fans to get them up for it, then they don’t have what it takes. Do you think Roy Keane needed the fans to cheer him on to put effort in. Not a chance.

These players thought must be good enough but talent alone isn’t enough. Attitude and will to win is the most important thing at this level. And we need leaders, players who the others will follow into battle. Do we have any? Look at the best teams, no matter what their level, and they are full of leaders. We need more characters and fewer EPL academy players (Devine and Arblaster apart) because statistically most of them won’t even make it in the game. Not even at our level. So, let’s look to the non-league scene. Find the rough diamonds like Andy Jones and Ian Taylor. They are there if we look hard enough, take a chance and put the work in with them.

Give me attitude and application over ability any day of the week.

  7. It’s too simplistic to run through the signings like that in my view.

You have to take into account the status at the club i.e 1st team , backup squad player/development.

Clearly It’s the senior pros signed which is the major issue.

Massey, Grant, Lowe, Loft, Uche, Wilson, Taylor they are all poor signings to date, not to mention a 3 year deal for a senior 32/33 year old vice captain who downs tools when the going got tough last year and had repeated the trick this season.

    Massey,Grant,Loft  2 year deals!!

    Sackable offense on its own.

She has been let down but I felt from the outset that she had unrealistic optimism for growing the attendances. Although it was great to see the enthusiasm and ambition, history shows we've struggled to break the 7-8k barrier even when an established Div 2 (ie Championship) side.

Without ridiculous levels of spending, we were always going to (and probably needed to) stabilise in the third tier. What she maybe didn't twig was that there's no great appetite for mid-table football season in, season out.

I feel sorry for her, but I'm sure she's got her exit route in mind. We're here for life.

    Fair point about attendances.

You're right mate but I can't castigate anyone for not going. I was giving it a miss as it's actually affecting my moods ( dramatic I know ). Spent from 15.01 on Saturday until i went to bed mulling over the horrendous goings on I keep putting myself through.

I am actually going because my son in law would be sat on his own so I caved in to him moaning at me.

I don't actually want to go but I'll be shouting like a loon as normal .

Is it 2 years since won a home league game on a Tuesday? I won't criticise a single person who can't be bothered tomorrow.

Talking about the fans or the players? If they can't be arsed then why should we?

The confidence is absolutely shot, players are hiding from the ball its really obvious to see however 1 result changes that.

It HAS TO BE TOMORROW or we will be down.

Now is not the time to throw the towel in.

Do we really need two holding midfielders in a game at home that is do or die?

    It's a good point mate.

My logic is Sang to play higher up the pitch from his RB position meaning we will need the cover. We really can't afford to lose a goal. We've seen so many times it just knocks the stuffing out of us, heads drop and we accept defeat because we don't create enough chances.

I'd rather be tight and rely on set-pieces where we''ve looked much better in the 3 games, another reason why I want Grant in the team.

If its still 0-0 in the last 25 mins then thats the time to go for it with Wilo in the last 25 mins.

The dust has settled from the weekend and i just feel complete and utter deflated. I cant be arsed to go tomorrow as i know exactly how its going to go before a ball has even been kicked. When the owner dof and players seem like they dont care and have absolutely zero fight in them. Why should i waste my time? 3:0 fleetwood have will have maximum 2 shots on target and majority of our play wont make it into there half .

Honestly, if I was Carol I would be in front of the players and lay on the line exactly what relegation would mean for her and our club.

Would it work, would they give a hoot?

I don't know but I doubt I'd be able to contain my frustration at the state of things currently.

Unfortunately, it seems she's more likely to thank them profusely for coming to play for us.

I wonder if her emotional demeanour on Saturday was triggered by the shouts from the terraces at full-time. Heaven knows where he head is at right now.

I really feel for her to be honest. She's ploughed literally millions into the club, heart and soul, entrusted Flitcroft with the football side and she's been badly let down by his mismanagement.

I keep coming back to it but the senior players he has signed ( except Garrity) have been a disgrace to the profession. The players and the families have been well looked after by Carol and this is the thanks she has had.

  14. Do or die tomorrow and on that basis I would urge all fans get down to support the team for one last time before all hope is gone.

If it was up to me I would make a few changes from Saturday. Sang is our player most likely to create a chance with some lovely deliveries into the box so we need to get him higher up the pitch  and I always feel we do better when him and Massey link up together. Putting Grant in CM I would hope he can help us to control the midfield better. Last chance saloon for a lot of these lads.

    My team would be:

                 Ripley

    Sang Lapota Debrah Yak

                Ojo Grant

    Massey Garrity Mighten

                    Loft

    The plan:

(Made simple for <ovf censored> heads)

Running a football club with limited financial resources requires careful planning, strategic decision-making, and a focus on long term sustainability. Here are some key principles that such a club should consider lads:

    1. Financial prudence:The club should prioritize financial stability above short-term success. This means avoiding excessive spending on player wages and transfer fees that could lead to financial strain. Implementing strict budgeting and financial controls is essential to ensure that the club operates within its means.

    2. Investing in youth development: Developing a strong youth academy can be a cost-effective way to nurture homegrown talent and provide a pipeline of players for the first team. By investing in youth development programs, the club can reduce reliance on expensive transfers and build a strong foundation for the future.

    3. Scouting and recruitment: Instead of competing for high priced signings in the transfer market, the club should focus on scouting and recruiting talented players with potential. This requires a robust scouting network and a thorough analysis of player performance and potential. Signing players on free transfers or loan deals can also be a cost effective strategy.

    4. Maximizing revenue streams: While the club may not have the financial resources of larger clubs, it can still explore opportunities to maximize revenue streams. This could include increasing ticket sales through affordable pricing, securing sponsorship deals with local businesses and leveraging digital and merchandising opportunities to engage fan and generate additional income.

    5. Community engagement: Building strong ties with the local community can provide valuable support and resources for the club. This could involve hosting community events, engaging with local schools and youth organizations, and partnering with local busineses to promote the club and its activities. A loyal and engaged fan base can provide crucial support, both financially and emotionally, during challenging times.

    6. Long term planning: The club should adopt a strategic approach to planning, with clear short-term and long-term objectives. This includes setting realistic targets for on field performance, financial sustainability, and infrastructure development. By establishing a clear vision and direction, the club can make informed decisions that support its overall goals.

Overall, running a football club with limited financial resources requires a combination of prudent financial management, strategic planning, and a focus on building strong relationships with fans and the local comunity. By prioritizing sustainability and investin in the development of homegrown talent, such a club can overcome financial challenges and thrive in the long term etc etc etc.

I imagine this is what df is going for.

Lets put it simple, he isnt there yet.

All good however the plan gets blown up because this years playing budget has been squandered on poor senior pros and not addressing glaring needs in a squad for 2 transfer windows.

Look at the potential of L1 next season and the revenue opportunities . Stoke,Sheffield Wed,Stockport,Crewe,Wrexham.

Bare minimum 1 million financial black hole which will have very serious consequences for all of your points and probably some job losses.

Moore said himself Lopata was fit & ready to play before Cheltenham mate & he’s not even made the match day squad since. He said he’s not been selected because only 2 cb slots available on the bench but he was really good when he has played by far our best defender & grafted his arse off. Playing Lowe for 90 mins in every game he shouldn’t even be in the squad. Why was Dipepa our first sub on Saturday? He offers absolutely nothing & wouldn’t get a game at leek town.

He’s got to see what he has. I would had him on the bench yesterday but we don’t know the ins and outs.

I hope he’s seen enough of Lowe now!!

According to Carol mate he’s a championship manager & we are going to be fine so no need to worry. I don’t blame Moore & wont if or when we get relegated as it’s looking inevitable now it’s been a car crash in decline for a while. An atrocious season & to bring him in February when the windows closed is unforgivable. Not sure any manager stood a chance after seeing the performances of late, but some of the team selections, substitutions & interviews are very concerning for me mate. I really hope it’s just him getting a feel for the players & trying a few different things out but we need a win Tuesday no two ways about it or it definitely is season over

Carol just blabbering emotionally after a game where we all just say it’s <ovf censored> <ovf censored>. Don’t listen or pay attention to anything immediately after a game .

You and I have the benefit of knowing these players on a match day. The manager does not. He’s getting to know.

Tuesday do or die no doubt.
