Anyone who believes luck doesn’t play a part in football, have a look at Barrow’s 2 goals last night!!

Lucky goals for sure but look at the way they defended. Brilliant stuff throwing themselves in front of everything. Without that bit of luck they would have lost the 4 or 5.

At the other end of the spectrum how on earth is that a Crawley penalty injury time?

Players deserve credit for tonight but special shout out to Darrell Clarke for me.

Yes definitely we all know under JA we would have just played 433 in the 1st half, played 433 2nd half, make a sub at 75 -80 mins and play 433 with a final throw of the dice with another sub at 85 mins playing 433.

Seriously though that has been a real stand out to me in the past 4 or 5 games. We have changed formation several times during games if things aren't going our way or to try and react to what the opposition trying to do.

That in game management is very noticeable and I think will serve us very well in the future.

  3. I thought tonight games....  getting <ovf censored> in there YEEESSSSS!!!!

Got a headache for all the shouting at the TV.

1st half played great football just not clinical enough with our chances.

2nd half we seemed quite slow and lethargic, looked like we where dying on our arse BEFORE they equalised but for the 1st time since I can remember the players showed some character. We had some real proper battlers and leaders out there tonight.  You could go through the whole team who were all at least a 7 even the much maligned Mills and Robinson.

Another performance like that and points on Saturday and we can start to feel a little bit better about ourselves.

When are people gonna stop suddenly expecting Pope to score goals for us?

You're right Phil however I would add Pope at this stage would be a big upgrade to our team playing 442. Having Rodney running in behind his flicks would be a great weapon plus he would be able to occupy the back post and attack the ball... IF FIT.

DOF body language didn't look great on thet fans forum the other night

Got to disagree with that. It was his first meeting with the supporters club done via zoom, the manager he appointed has not won in 6 games. All 3 of them on stage had probably coming to the end of a 12 hour day. Cut him some slack.

He wasn't asked many questions during the evening at all. He did come very well prepared though if you noticed the many notes he had on the table. When he did answer a question but he spoke very well. Some on here might think its <ovf censored>, I for one was happy to hear there is going to be a thought process going forward around our all aspects of infrastructure and signings rather than.. "Do you know any lads who played for you before out of contract?" " Do you think they would fancy sitting on the bench for us?" DF track record speaks for itself as manager and knows what he is doing.

The future will be bright once we secure our status this season. For the very 1st time since Rudge/Bell era we are starting to build the right foundations for sustain long term success.

What is people's opinions on our new found weapon the Legge long throw ?

I think Legge's long throws are pointless. The trajectory of the ball will alway favour the CB attacking the ball coming in from behind. This is why we made the Oldham CB look like Tony Adams!

The only good thing about them is if you keep doing them it does create a bit of space for a short one for our player to whip the ball in the box but sadly a lot of our players don't have a football brain cell between then to see it.

  7. The run in shows how important the next week is going to be to decide our EFL status.

I really feel we are turning the corner and fancy us to get back to back wins this week against Newport and Colchester.

For me I can't see how Grimsby get enough points but after that I don't think there is much too choose between us Southend, Colchester. I peronsally would also add Walsall into the mix who are in poor form.

Walsall's run in is horrendous. They will play FGR,Tranmere,Salford,Morecambe,Carlise in their last 7 games.

What I mean by GUTLESS is a player in the team who drives past players gets brought down for a pen ,a player who when he picks the ball up believes in his own ability to get a goal or goals for the Vale .

What you mean is lacking confidence. No-one can argue with that.

When that shot comes in you throw yourself at the ball I'd have see it again ,a lousy goal yet again going in our net .

Players should throw themselves to block shots but its basic communication which is the issue. Crookes needs to take charge of that situation either tell Conlon to pass his player on to him and get him to  cover the goalscorer OR go out to the goalscorer. Thats where the problem is. The team are very very quiet.

When the ball finally gets out to the goalscorer Crookes has left too much ground to block the shot and Conlon watches the ball go past him. That goal is nothing to do with Smith who had a very good game and marking Doyle.

  10. I'm going to add a very different view than the common one on here.Who expected a win against a Bolton team flying? No-one.

DC has installed some confidence back into the defence by playing very defensive. Who can blame him? Now he has to do the same for our more creative players. We just need that little bit of luck for a goal and 3 points. When that happens the confidence will return, plus with our creative players coming back to fitness i.e Worrall,Amoo,Manny then I think we will be OK and things will start to change. We probably won't win many because we aren't good enough but we will draw enough games to stay up.

I also thought Robinson did OK in the 2nd half. He had the big CB on the half turn and earned what should have been quite a few free kicks which the ref refused to give. I would give him a run in the team upfront to see if he can nick a goal and get his confidence. He is our only fit striker who has a pedigree of scoring goals at this level.

We need to have a little bit of faith. If we pick up a win on Tuesday against Newport 4 points from 3 home games is OK for me, given the opposition.

In my prediction spreadsheet, where I have us staying up on goal difference, I had us losing and Southend winning.

So for me, bizarrely ... we just made 2 points up on them.

I had Grimsby to win too.

Do we stay up?  If so where did you think we would pick up points

  12. 1 point lost today for sure. Piss poor goal we gave away.. other than that we defended quite well.

Battled well in centre midfield but like most of the season our decision making in the final 3rd is awful. I would like to see us move to 433 and leave Rodney up high rather than making him track back like we did under Micky with Ashely Vincent. I really don't understand why we don't leave him on the halfway line when we defend corners and set pieces..... oh and ref can <ovf censored> off. What a <ovf censored>!

    Mercifully Southend can only draw.

    Newport game is absolutely massive.

  13. Can't see how Guthrie will ever play again this season after Tuesday. His all-round play has slowly diminished since he signed ( I thought his contribution was really good in the 1st few games)without having chances however he has missed far too many guilt edge chances now to keep playing.

  14. Well this thread has descended into a little bit of a farce.....

I think we get it Eddie you're not happy with DC appointment and you don't think a team 6 points from the play offs are in the hunt. How many games the team has won to be 6 points from the play offs after 25+ games is irrelevant as an argument. I would give me right bollock to be 6 points away from the playoffs.

  15. I'm going against the grain here but I really feel like we can pick up at least a point today. It will be completely different to Tuesday game in the fact we will probably have a lot less of the ball however I think we can hit these on the break which will suit our players better.

I really feel the Cheltenham performance was the watershed moment for the team and Tuesdays game was the beginning of the climb away from the drop zone.

    Walsall...0....Barrow...1emoji848.png

It makes the table look even worse but having said that if we can grind out 4 points in these next two home games we will more than likely overtake Colchester and drag Walsall into the fight.  Walsall are starting to look very vulnerable.I suppose how we look to Grimsby and Southend🙂

Expect there are going to be a lot of twist and turns over the next 4 weeks but it looks to me like our away games are going to decide our fate at Colchester,Barrow,Harrogate and Crawley.

  17. Good discussion on the Bolton preview. On the medicals I know for a fact we were signing players without a medical pre dating Askey. I would also point to the fact players who have consistently broken down with injuries aren't Askey signings.
