Again, with everything I say on here I would be very much in the minority (probably on my own) but I would love see a Steve Evans being the next Vale manager.
He get's his teams promoted. He get's them fit, playing exciting football (see Tuesday night) and takes no prisoners.
We would easily finish in the top half of the table and maybe the top 6 with him at the helm.
He's one of those people that people <ovf censored> hate him unless he's part of your team
He wouldn’t be top of my list but I agree he is a good manager. He has winning mentality rather than our nice team mentality.
Million % upgrade on Crosby as manager and maybe wouldn’t need DOF as well with that type of manager.

Yes we do have a squad that at first site you would say should be doing better. But like the other bloke said we don't have it up top, so how do you expect a squad lacking in such a key area to be doing any better than it is now? both uche and loft haven't been performing at 100% (hopefully they will be very soon). Crosby has a average league 1 side with nothing up top. So what do you expect?
I believe that loft and uche may be able to get a few goals before January. When loft signed for Bristol rovers he was ridiculed for a bad touch etc. Eventually he established himself in the squad as a target man and scored some important goals. Uche is big, powerful, good on the ball and like loft he is a target man. I would expect him to get his first goal like loft very soon.
I think Crosby should have a chance. If we carry on like this though I'm afraid as optimistic as I am he will need to go.
The strikers have not worked out so far but we aren’t exactly playing to help them either. Surely it’s up to the manager to pick a game plan to find an alternative way. That’s what he gets paid for. I’m more concerned about our defence. They have been pretty poor. You don’t need to score lots of goals if you can keep clean sheets to pick up points.
If we stopped overplaying in wide areas before getting the ball in the box it would give either striker a chance to gamble on crosses.Get more players in the box. It’s rare we have more than 2 players in the box .
Play with a variation if tempo rather than constant walking pace. Waiting for opposition to just get back in position in numbers is not a good tactic. How many times do we get to a wide area near the penalty area and we go back to the halfway line?If you were Carol how long would you give it before making the change?

Not that this thread should be seen as any kind of indication of our overall fan base, but if you look at my original post, there's far more people in support of that view than those thinking it's total cuckoo.
There's been some booing. Some called for & some uncalled for, but I certainly don't believe he's a manager on the edge at the moment.
It's all about opinions & only time will tell. Hopefully we can get behind the manager & the team over the next few busy weeks.
Are you referring to your post to CambridgeDon?

Again just offering an alternative view, but look at his record for the games he can be fully accountable for.
This season including all League & Cup games:
Total games played = 31.
This is a ridiculous amount of games for us to have played by the second week of December. Our relative success in the cups has definitely had an impact on our squad, not only in terms of injuries but also recovery time & the amount of time they've been able to actually work on things on the grass. Cup runs are great, but they do have a knock on effect especially at our level. You've got to have a big squad to cope & we simply don't have that as a league 1 side. I'd say it's a pretty fair assumption to conclude that had we gone out at the 1st chance in all cups, we'd more than likely have a few more league points in the bag.
Wins = 11
Draws = 9 (Won 2 & lost 1 on pens)
Loses = 11
We've also had two very winnable home games cancelled due to internationals. Fleetwood who were dead on their feet at the time, & Orient.
Hear me out now. If you convert that form over Crosby's time in full charge, it leaves you with 62 points across a full 46 game season. Now some of you will correctly point out that 3 of those games have been against L2 opposition & you'd be right. Free scoring Crewe who are in the top 4 of L2, Mansfield away from home who were unbeaten in 20 games across a 4 month period, & then bottom of the league Sutton, who we beat. It also includes Newcastle under 21s as well (which I've counted as a draw on the stats)
We've only been beaten by more than a 1 x goal margin on 4 x occasions in 31 games. Barnsley opening day. Bristol Rovers away when we played an hour + with 10 men. Unbeaten Pompey away, where we feasibly could've & should have been out of site at half time. Bolton away in the trophy game last week.
I stick to my guns that this season is far from as bad as ppl would have you believe. If you'd have told me we'd be looking at mid table in the league & a QF in one of the 2 x major cup comps, I'd have snapped your hand off & so would most sensible Vale fans.
Could & should we be higher up the league? Yes absolutely, I think we're probably about 6 points shy of where we could & should be. Are we lacking up top? Yes we are, Crosby will know this, he isn't thick. He will be doing everything within his power to rectify that. Please give the bloke a break. I think he's the right guy at this current time & deserves more credit & time with the squad he has put together.I agree we should only judge Crosby since he took the job which is why his time should be up.
We’ve had 31 games to judge Crosby. It’s not a ridiculous number of games. It’s just another stat Crosby has thrown out to justify his <ovf censored> selection and in game subs. Just like the nonsense spouted about performing above XG like Barnsley and 1st contact in the box.
4 of those 31 games have been for BSM. We played a team of kids in every BSM game and the league cup we played largely squad players expect Mansfield, plus as you point out we have 3 had weekend breaks. You’d have thought Burton and Cheltenham were 2 very winnable matches but it doesn’t work like that.
It’s a red herring thrown out to cover up his deficiencies and a squad lacking balance.
To say we are in games is saying we are competitive. Yes we are unless the opposition score 1st.
To extrapolate the form over the rest of the season is a bit daft. If you’d have done that at the end of August we would have been top. Do that over the last 15 league matches and we will be relegated.
We nearly broke the record for a goal drought and had one of the worst opening day defeats. Pretty damning.
Enough is enough. This squad should be performing comfortably mid table but the manager and his coaching team are not up to the task.

The physio department said they had a big workload and only capable of 45 minutes after completing 90 against Bolton.

I'll probably get pelters for this but I feel like fan culture nowadays only allows people to be 'overjoyed with happiness' or in 'the depths of despair'.
Quite often recently I've felt that we've all been overreacting, but losing from 2-0 up and then from 3-2 is very very poor.
I do buy into the idea of trying to play possession based football and the reasons for it:
- Teams playing possession football more likely to be promoted
- Allows us to develop technical youth players with higher sale value
- Enabled us to attract Premier league youth players on loan.
However it has kind have been sold to us that Andy Crosby is required to run that. I have no doubt that he is a good coach, but I think we are seeing he doesn't yet have the 'in game' management that comes with more experience. How often when we had DC in his pomp would you see him flip a game on its head (often preemptively). In fairness to AC the injury crisis hasn't given him much to play with on the bench.
If we are stuck to our model are we not better off hiring high potential 'flowing football' managers with a bit more experience. If they succeed and get poached it means we have had a good season. I know we'd draw from a pool of lower league managers but the type of thing Swansea used to do where each manager fitted and developed on a consistent style of play.
A final point in defence of AC, but subs last night did feel very much in line with the number of games we have this month. I am gutted about losing out on the cup money but if it helps us get a win against Wigan is it wrong?
Agree with your points about our style of play.
Revisit your final thought post Wigan result but either way Yes it is wrong!! Taking into account where we are as a football team, prize money involved it’s absolutely criminal to do what he did last night. You can’t play football with an eye on the next match when you are on a horrendous run scratching for form and confidence. You have to win today and then see what tomorrow brings.

Listening to Crosby this morning… what a load of 💩. Sports Science. Really??? Really?
Question for Crosby. If we were drawing 0-0 at 60 mins would he have made the those changes?
Crosby out.

Do you mean the signings who were coasting the game until Crosby’s intervention?

I was one of the 2k crowd against my better judgement. If that doesn’t show Carol Crosby has lost fans support and I don’t know what will.
60 mins up and we we’re comfortable. Then Crosby happened…. Lowe into midfield, Ollie and Alfie off then lost complete control.
WTF was Crosby thinking? That’s all I can say. His game management is <ovf censored> clueless. He really has to go.
Postives:
Ben Garrity workrate was phenomenal. Absolute incredible performance from him tonight.
Ryan Loft. Don’t let the penalty cloud judgement. He did well. Put himself about, won his headers and scored a good goal after winning the ball for us deep in our own half.
Jason Lowe was superb at CB.
Gavin Massey 1st half performance was one of the best I’ve seen in a Vale shirt.
Alfie Devine had a great game caused them soo many problems with his movement.
A lot of positives about tonight’s performance but the defending once Lowe moved to midfield was disorganised and dreadful hamstring by an inept manager.

Yes was it good seeing Worrall work his proverbial putting ball after ball in and no one on the end of majority etc
We have had 11 poor months results wise (apart from cups )but come on seriously this season so far do you feel honestly that we have the amount of points in league we deserve.
I beg to differ there's been so many games I've come away from thinking how we lost that,so many bad giveaway goals when let's face the opposition have done little to get them rewards ,that's how I've seen it anyway .
Maybe Exeter was the turning point cause generally we were second best ,but we did what others I feel have been doing to us being second best but somehow been given opportunities win games they have not deserved to win .
So lets have some positive support for the Vale tonight from all .
Lets see if we have enough about us win the game in 90 hope so then maybe I can reach work at 22.00 not 23.00 I've told them I'd be in .
Keep the faith .
Let's hope that December is the month where results turn.
With support maybe they will .
With apathy and delusion and negative thinking they probably will not .
So come on Vale .
Let's build that confidence even further leading up to big games v Wigan and the Middlesborough, as especially the latter the crowd should be absolutely buzzing I am I cannot believe Vale are 90 mins away from a semi final its absolutely wonderful

I do love your posts mate always passionate and very optimistic.
Approaching halfway through this season we are we deserve to be.
We haven't picked up points our general play deserves because we are one of the worst teams in the division in both boxes. Thats where it maters.
A big few months for the club to change direction.

I don’t use the forum as my barometer although I find it interesting reading different views which is why I don’t block any poster.
I talk to other fans at games around me, Twitter,Ale and Vale Podcast, my mates and family . Honestly I don’t know any person who actually wants Crosby as manager.
I also suggest the dwindling home attendances show fans are voting.

Did you not agree with that assessment?
I must admit I don’t agree with a lot of what Yatsey says on Radio Stoke but I thought he was bang on with that.

Crosby just needs to play his best team of fit players. I don’t feel Crosby or the club can afford to play a weakened team.
I’ve been saying for a while our away form has generally been ok but it’s at home where we have looked devoid of ideas. Grind out a win against these shithouses to earn a good financial reward and the players should get more confidence with back to back wins.

Well unless a law has been introduced compelling players to sign a contract l don't think it's fair to blame Vale for this.
Rhys Walters looks a decent prospect but it would be absolutely mad to break our structure for a kid with so much still to learn.
I agree. Cracking prospect but thats all he is.
Our selling point is we can offer a genuine crack at 1st team football now. If he went to Champ team he will just sit in the age group teams. Remember Joe Davis?
Looked a good prospect who looked like he could have a very decent good but left to take more money to sit in Leicester Under 23's team.

A very good question, I don’t have the answer, I’m just trying to find a solution to our problems on the pitch and off the pitch financially. Some of the non league clubs, seem to pay very good wages. The fact is we cannot continue with the current situation.
A change in the managers approach would yield better results with either striker in my view, that’s not to say we don’t need a no.1 striker in the mould of a Mark Harris because we definitely do.
I know I’m probably a lone voice on this but I’m convinced Loft can be a decent 2nd striker but think he’s is actually injured and we are just managing him.
At his previous clubs I saw a player who wanted to run in behind, who was very physical and an all round bloody pain in the arse to play against. With us I see a player who just labours around and looks like he can’t be arsed. Somethings definitely not right with him. Maybe that wonderful manager and salt of the earth guy Joey Barton ruined him. Who knows? I just know he used to be half decent.
Uche….well he probably shouldn’t be a footballer . He literally can’t run. Maybe he should try boxing ? He got a great body. I should know the wife had great pleasure taking a photo of him without his top off when he came over to the fans after Burton game.

Just watched Eastleigh and their striker McCallum scores both goals and scores for fun but is probably way out of our price league.
However how about a cheeky bid for Reading striker Smith who would play off Uche in a Tony Naylor fashion.
More importantly with the Royals in financial distress he is probably within our price range.
McCallum is on more money at Eastleigh than he will earn at Vale, never mind the fee.

I disagree the playing budget has been cut , even if it had , we still have an extremely competitive.
If you look at some of our signings they will be on good money for the division i.e Ripley,Sang , Ojo new contract, Uche, Loft, Grant
Have we spent it wisely? Obviously not up front.
If anything a surplus manager budget was probably put to other use which could explain why Crosby still has a job.
