Yep ...and many people would have spent £100 upwards with travel and booze etc. Remember we sold 8000, so what would be the reason for not getting at least that many for a game we have far more chance of winning in?

It wasn't played Xmas week though which makes a huge difference.

What price would have tempted you into going?

Should be no more than £20 for an adult and £10 concessions. I really think the club have shot themselves in the foot with this one and will struggle to get a full house from Vale fans that a QF game deserves. Shame.

I assume it is a joint decision with Middlesborough, semi finals maybe Prem prices?

It will be an agreed ticket price with Boro but we preach about community and have inflated prices for a cup game Xmas week which will restrict the attendance because  its community who cannot afford to attend. Sad.

Seems a little odd just for 2 months. Hard to pass comment but I wish him well. Suspect he'll play at Wrexham.  Be interesting to see if he offers more than Walters as he seems to play in the same position.

If we didn't sign him all he could do is play in bounce and academy games so it makes sense to sign him short term before committing to a long term. If he was that good we would have signed him long term but he's not going to come into the 1st team.It gives us a chance to reassess other positions and the market as well to strategise the budget in January. You'd expect him to have at least 2 EFL trophy games to show what he can do.

I watched him him play in a 7 v 7 small sided game last week, other than his size he didn't standout likewise he didn't look out of place. Rhys Walters and Alfie Devine however looked fantastic. I fully expect Arblaster to go back to Sheff Utd but I really think we have a ready made replacement in Rhys Walters. I just hope he proves it in the EFL games. Rhys is the best prospect I can remember at Vale since Anthony Gardner.

A Darren Hughes look a like would me everytime

On a positive note with LB's I saw Dan Jones running on the grass yesterday morning so he must be feeling a little better. Hopefully he's only a few weeks away from given the all clear to join in training.

Agreed but I still maintain they panicked sacking Clarke.

He's a very good manager already started a mini revival at Cheltenham.

It was personal circumstances.  A reset in the summer might have resolved it but I think that would have been a gamble. We lost over 1m to get in to L1 - thats some gamble. Irony is we would have stayed up but I think you have to be proactive in that situation when you know things are not right rather than hoping it will be OK.

With hindsight I still think it was the right choice to be honest.

I just can't believe managers are getting sacked so early in the season.

  7. Personally think it's a disgrace paying a local newspaper a subscription fee to produce news and analysis specifically for a a local community club. Shame on you Sentinel. I will not and will never subscribe to this service. Nothing against Baggers or the club, I hope for the sake of football fans supporting local clubs around the country Vale fans do not subscribe and this initiative fails.

This is the start of a very slippery slope, will we see BBC local stations doing the same for content and commentary....its coming!

The last team I can remember getting beaten 7-0 was Man Utd at Liverpool last season. Similar game actually in that the 1st half was pretty even, and they imploded in the 2nd half.

There manager is doing just fine though, and is under no major pressure for his job. The key was he got a good response from his players, and that's what Crosby needs to do now.

I forgot about that game last season.

Big difference is the manager had already established himself and generally was doing quite well. Crosby unknown as manager.

Spot on response is now everything.

They make a very good point that if we are looking to add anymore new signings, we have just made it very hard for ourselves because any potential new signing is going to look at the second part of last season and then see the 7-0, they are going to have more that second thoughts about coming.

It could also increase the wages that any new player wants because they could be saying you need to give me a few hundred quid per week more to come to you now

They do indeed. How can you sell us to a potential player when the manager could be out of the door shortly?

It's what I was getting at in another thread when I asked do you hang fire with recruitment? Do you carry on regardless or wait for the next 2 games to see if Crosby can turn it around?

I can't think of any manager who has lasted much longer after an absolute tanking like that.

  10. TC at LWB… No No No. and absolutely not!!!

Just because he has a left foot doesn’t t mean he’s suited to the role. He dwells on the ball far too long to be effective. He will just stop and slow our forward play and the ball will end up going backwards.

  11. Absolutely brilliant pod with Carol and Paddy.

A really good relaxed chat which made me laugh and tear up in equal measure.

I see posters are jumping on the bandwagon about Paddy getting involved with player signings. Fans need to remember he is there watching and learning about all the different operations of the club because one day he might be running the ship.

Who's going to score the goals? Who's going to create the clear cut chances for the goals? Everything I've seen so far of the new players screams bang average league 2, top half league 2 at best. We look solid but thats not difficult when we play such a negative formation with experienced players.

For me we are relying on the same players we kept from last season. Conlon will probably be our top scorer (if not then I dread to think where our goals will come from) Jake Taylor to bring his form back from 2 years ago so that we have a bit of creativity (Manager doesn't like him though), and Smith and Legge (Only retained because we were forced to keep him) to keep us solid. How is that great recruitment?

I accept I'm being overly negative too early on but I just don't see it changing that much. It could easily go the other way if the fans turn.

Let's just hope it's down to a tough start to the season and things pick up soon

Fair enough Tony but I really see similarities for us when Flickers was manager at Mansfield.

Slow start drawing games hard to beat playing 352. Bring in a young forward on loan end of transfer window(Tyler Walker) to fire in the goals . Sounds familiar?

Hopefully we don't collapse at the end of the season like his Mansfield side did.

Its early days 4 league games old our pattern fo play I certainly still developing I'm certain it will pick up soon and you feel more optimistic.

    Not a prayer sorry

You don't even think top 7?

I know its early days so far but we look solid creating chances, just not finishing them. Captain Conlon to come back in soon I think its only a matter of time before they start going in and we become team that win 1-0. Don't think we will ever blow anybody away - not enough firepower for that.

  14. Another ill advised interview from Pope. I think it's really unprofessional to comment on recent events, even more so when he clearly hasn't come to terms with it himself.  Very very sad behaviour again from a club legend. I certainly won't be contributing to any testimonial events ... final straw for me.

  15. The podcast interview with Sam Stockley was excellent. What really genuine nice guy. He almost made me feel bad for booing him😀

Good to hear from him. Always interesting to hear the goings in at Vale around that horrific time post Foyle meltdown with Sinnott and Glover. What an absolute shambles the club was. Thank god for Micky Adams.
