  1. I can imagine it now

DF sorts our striker situation with a double whammy signing Zak Mills and bringing Tomlinson back from wrestling.

“I’ve been watching him for a while now and he hasn’t been scoring many in the league of WWE, so we feel it’s best for everyone for him to get a fresh start. We are going for our 5th changing room next season so it will really make the player feel welcome. With the 5 year contract he has assurances that at some point in the future he will most likely get his very own changing room as we continue to build.
In terms of style, well the way he handles the steel chairs, you don’t see much of that in football so he will be a great addition in a relegation battle. His stats are arguably the best in the whole league in terms of hitting people with chairs”

“Zak has signed on a 2 year deal. Unfortunately we weren’t able to increase the length as he simply wasn’t interested in a changing room. He was more for an extra gym, but we’re not planning to move the one we currently have for another 10 years or so. Still, his goalscoring record speaks for itself and I’m sure he is going to be good for a literal goal or two a season. He will be unavailable for selection for a couple of weeks as he currently has sore toe, then he has a free Palestine protest he’s been looking forward to, but he’s excited to join up with the squad soon after.”

I’ve not even started drinking yet

Recruitment is the responsibility of the manager, end of. It was Andy Crosby who dismantled the promotion side and Andy Crosby who failed to recruit new signings. It's not the job of the DoF to find new players - the manager needs to know he can work with them and that they can play his system. The DoF arranges the salary and draws up the contract. So it's the manager who is to blame for this rather than the DoF. What manager - and I include both Darrell Clarke and Andy Crosby in this - would have taken the job knowing that Flitcroft was going to carry out the recruitment?

It's so blindingly obvious that I can't understand why others can't see it.

    It's not mate

There are a few ways it could work but most likely it's something along the lines of the manager will say he wants a striker (he may not even be asked what they want but would obviously discuss with the manager) and then the DOF will say here are 3 options which should be within our budget and a chance of signing compiled by the matrix, who do you want us to go for?

If the DOF offers the manager one good player and two poor players and the manager chooses the poor one it's on the manager. If the manager is offered three poor players then what can he do? There have been exceptions of signings that will be from the manager, DC with Harrison and Taylor but I think this was panic stations kicking in.

To set the system up how we did and not recruit enough wingbacks and then to stick with it for so long is the most baffling thing for me, even more so than the lack of strikers. Carol has hired people who supposedly know about football so this should not have been an issue. There is no way AC was sitting there not thinking about trying to change it up after the run we've been on. In my opinion the formation had to have been forced. I do believe Flitcroft has now decided or has been told to back off a bit now as we have seen DM change the system, whether that's because the club know he's messed up or just want to reduce the heat on him I don't know but it needed to happen. We don't really have any great options to play most of the other formations either i know, but that's the recruitment again.

We cannot go into next season being so inflexible.

    Does he?

I can't be 100% on it of course but the earliest I remember of him was at Crawley when they had money to get up to the football league. He then went to Rotherham at the time they were getting their new ground. Leeds were basket cases IIRC but had money. Mansfield I'm unsure, Peterborough and gills did (compared to the leagues they were in at the time) and I've heard even Stevenage have a bit of Wonga over the last couple of seasons.

I was lucky enough to be in a box during the 6-2 against Rotherham and at half time we went outside for a cigarette. We could hear Evans screaming at his players just a bit lower down from where the old club shop was on Lorne street. We started laughing loudly, shouted some people over to listen but he must have heard us because it went dead silent after that. Or he was on his way out to eat us or something. Good times

  4. ***WARNING CONSPIRACY INBOUND***

Can anyone remember the timing between us re-signing Wilson and Harrison wanting to leave?

I remember someone posting a rumour last season that they had a fall out and then when Harrison said he wanted to leave I'm sure it was just after we took Wilson back so thought there could have been something in that

  5. I have noticed that when I load the homepage up that new articles aren't showing unless I actually refresh the page. Closing and re-opening the browser doesn't do anything I have to refresh, this is on multiple computers. I thought you hadn't posted for a while and then loads came on at once
