  1. Recruitment is the responsibility of the manager, end of. It was Andy Crosby who dismantled the promotion side and Andy Crosby who failed to recruit new signings. It's not the job of the DoF to find new players - the manager needs to know he can work with them and that they can play his system. The DoF arranges the salary and draws up the contract. So it's the manager who is to blame for this rather than the DoF. What manager - and I include both Darrell Clarke and Andy Crosby in this - would have taken the job knowing that Flitcroft was going to carry out the recruitment? It's so blindingly obvious that I can't understand why others can't see it.
  2. I wondered how long it would take for someone to turn on Carol. Sooner than I thought. Without Carol and Kevin the club would have been wound up by Smurthwaite trying to recoup what he hadn't spent. If we were lucky a phoenix club would be playing in the Midland League with home games in Kidsgrove. Think about what might have been before pointing the finger at Carol.
  3. As I said in connection with the Crosby decision, the player choice is down to the manager. They might as well install a turnstile at the main entrance at the Incinerator the number of managers they've got through, none of them doing what the Board or fans wanted. I'm not sure about the current incumbent either.
  4. Could be the kind of knee jerk reaction that most on here are advocating. That decision on its own would not keep them up or conversely relegate them. That's down to the 11 crossing the white line.
  5. 1. The manager selects the players to play his system; the DoF agrees the salary and signs the contract. 2. See 1.
  6. Speak for yourself. I still don't think Flitcroft is the problem here; just a bad choice as manager this time last year. Yes Flitcroft made a mistake in choosing AC, but who hasn't made a mistake? For me it's not enough to hang him for, and I'm not joining in an ill informed witch hunt.
  7. Keep Carol. And repeatedly calling for Flitcroft's head will only alienate her. Yes, we all have a right to an opinion, but do we really want to drive her out of the club? Goodness knows where we would end up. National League North probably, with Smurthwaite back as chairman.
  8. Pointless survey. Carol has Flitcroft's back so there is absolutely no way she is going to dump him. The thing is, people are blaming him for failings that are within the scope for the team manager. The manager knows what shape he wants his team to play and chooses the players that he thinks will play his system. The DoF assists in recruitment, signs the contracts etc but it's the manager that chooses the targets. Does anyone honestly think Darren Moore will have come to VP on any other basis? The club just made a bad (easy?) choice when appointing a manager this time last season. Vale are paying the price for it now. I still feel that we're a couple of good performances away from mid table. All Darren Moore has to do is bring it out of this group of players. Maybe next season he'll create a side more to his liking but for now it is what it is. I just hope that it doesn't end with the dreaded drop.
  9. The only time I remember hearing anything from the Kop was when we sang YNWA. They don't like it.
  10. Just do something to turn the game. Even if it's only to take the pressure off the defence.
  11. Anyone else's IFollow playing up? Keeps breaking up.
  12. Hardly set the world on fire has he? FGR bottom of L1 last season, bottom of L2 this. Unless he hasn't featured?
  13. Harks back to when we got Lee Mills. Hope it's as effective.
  14. No point in trying; driving DF out would drive Carol out as well as she supports him. Are you sure that's what you want?
  15. Every time I see Bonner, I read Boomer....
  16. It's all gone a bit Spinal Tap hasn't it? You know, the successful rock band who lose manager after manager, they end up appointing one of the girlfriends of the band as manager, and the best she can do is to get them a gig at a kid's birthday party. That's Vale at the moment for me. But for birthday party read L2.
  17. I couldn't see Gareth Ainsworth coming here anyway. All his interests outside football are in the south and that's where he's likely to stay.
  18. I don't understand the hate for Flitcroft on here. Yes, he's failed to deliver us players in key positions but is that his fault or that of the owners, who it would appear clearly can't afford to pay what is required. That's why Garlick was sacrificed in favour of Patrick, who must be a relatively low cost alternative. Also see the lack of urgency in putting the Paddock toilets situation to rights. Even the scoreboard is at least partly funded from elsewhere. Let's face it, Carol and Kevin came to the rescue when it was needed, but at the cost of spending money to get rid of Smurthwaite that needed to be spent elsewhere. Without any additional funding from somewhere we're right back where we started.
  19. They came up with nobody who was prepared to accept what Vale were willing to pay. Flitcroft admitted as much in September when he said they had missed out on all their key targets.
  20. They're not awful players, just awful tactics. If there's no response from the team on Tuesday night I shall be very saddened, and convinced next season will be back in L2.
  21. I installed Firefox and it looks like it's solved the problem.
