  1. There is a question mark. He was getting stuck in v Wycombe without a doubt. He may be someone who is a good player in a good team and gets frustrated when others around make mistakes / struggle. I look at L2 and I do think we could power out that division again next season. The tough clubs are getting promoted and hopefully MK Dons will go up. Then there is no one down there to fear provided PV runs itself well. I'm not saying it will be easy, but with three auto promotions and a play off position, we surely should be able to be seriously in contention. I suppose Crewe might still be around!
  2. Ojo is the quality aging holding midfield player we need in L2. He will run most games.
  3. The players we have got will be highly competitive in L2. There is a need to address the wing back / full back positions and find a striker who will score goals at L2 level to go alongside Garrity, Chislett and Dipepe. Actually, it is only viable to retain Dipepe if he plays. Otherwise let a Championship club sign him. The throw everyone out tantrum isn't viable in real life. What is viable is trust Darren Moore.
  4. I can see Darren Moore is a good manager. He's not been able to get defenders who can't defend and strikers who don't score to perform better. It's because they are not good enough. The defence in the first few mins v Wycombe were taking the P. I nearly walked out after Wycombe scored. The whole team were taking the P v Exeter in the second half. And so it goes on, including super hero Smith passing to the opposition striker from our defensive free kick in his first game at home. I am hoping he will be in charge next year, and head up a promotion season. If he leaves, it will seriously bring into question whether I renew my season ticket. I'm not up at all for another manager appointment, and don't think that would end well.
  5. Looking at results, we were holding our own until New Year. Since then the wheels have come off. Lost the good young players and failed to replace with equivalent. Injuries. Inability to score or defend properly. We've been in a crash dive. It does make me angry, because we didn't need to be that much better than we are to have garnished a good wedge of points. Let's suppose we had retained Ellis Harrison and he scored the same number of goals as last season with Garrity and Chislett at their level and more recently Dipepe coming through. We would be in mid table and therefore the gross mistake in not retaining or signing a striker who scores is stark.
  6. We had a good start? Lost 7-0 away at Barnsley on the opening day of the season. One of the worst results in the Club's history.
  7. Admittedly with Arblaster and Devine playing, the current team won away at Mansfield in the Carabao Cup. They are about to gain promotion to L1. We did well against other top teams in that division aside from throwing the game v Wrexham when the idiot manager failed to make second half subs properly. In other words, with some new players added to current players, the facts don't support your point of view at all. I do accept that L2 is a big step down from L1 and that is why the current squad would be challenging for promotion. Also, the young players coming through, if retained, will strengthen the squad.
  8. It is nowhere near as bad as the squads when we were looking like going out of L2.
  9. I was interested to watch Walters last night. He is a L1 player in my opinion. He was perhaps, if anything, too deferent to Ojo when on the ball on occasions. Dipepa is at L1 level as well and could be a higher level player if he keeps scoring his goals. Shorrock and Plant are difficult to assess. They would cope well in L2. Because their positions are more anonymous I am not clear how far they can go. There are four things that have cost us this season. Firstly, allowing a proven goal scorer to leave and not replacing him with a proven goal scorer. Secondly signing or retaining a shed load of defenders / wingbacks who look L2 level. Thirdly signing players who were injured / not fit when they're actually needed immediately. Fourthly, the fiasco of replacement young loaned players in January - lost two very good ones - and replaced with players who are not L1 standard and may never be. We also actively signed a young player who was injured!! The problem with a successful youth policy is that Dipepa and Walters have to leave the club to progress. So then that money has to be reinvested in acquiring players that are good enough for L1 and will stick around for a few years. We haven't got that task cracked at present.
  10. Uche was man of the match v Exeter and Wycombe. Deservedly so. Ojo is good holding midfield player. Garrity OK. Chislett has scored some goals, but gets tackled often in vulnerable positions too deep. At L2 level, Ojo can be a useful older player who controls the game. His problem in L1 is that many of the other players, particularly the whole back 5, aren't good enough on the ball. So his attempts at controlled possession and constructive passing can be ineffective. I'm fed up. I know PV isn't the wealthiest club, but there is no reason for us to have a team that got relegated. There are several clubs above us such as Lincoln and Exeter I'd expect us to compete well against. So, I guess I have to accept mismanagement prior to Darren Moore and including the former DoF are to blame.
  11. The last 2 years have been failure. I say that without being the owners who have to fork out. I'm sensitive to that. But surely we could have established ourselves as a safely positioned L1 team. Carol is responsible for this - of course as the owner of the business. I accept football is fraught loss making task!
  12. I'm intolerant of posts like this. Tale the trouble to write sentences and paragraphs.
  13. I think it would be pointless to have appointed DM and his support staff and not back him. I can see he knows his stuff. Tonight was a good strategy in the circumstances. No one can cope with the gross defensive errors v Exeter and Wycombe. The answer starts with better players.
  14. There is a risk of a downward spiral. However, such is the gulf between L1 and L2 this squad with some changes could be challenging to come back straight away. It depends partly on the owners as they are going to need to fund a L1 team at L2 level. I would divert plans to improve the stadium / pitch to the football side.
  15. Yes, this was so disgraceful I was seriously considering walking out. It was so bad, I contemplated if the left side defence had taken a bribe. But fair play, the team finally got going and deserved better than a loss.
  16. Darren Moore hasn't been able to arrest the free fall he inherited. Part of that was taking over amongst a series of games where there was no time to reset. But I don't really know what he can do with a defence that flushes games down the toilet with gross mistakes. As per Saturday and tonight. But I can see he is a good manager and I'm ready to stand by him next season.
  17. The defending down the left hand side at the start of the game was awful. After a few near misses it cost a goal. Their second goal looked well offside. But I need to see if there is something at the origin of the ball that changes that. The linesman in front of Lorne Street got a number of things wrong including a throw in that was obviously PV given to Wycombe. Unfortunately we could have done with the lady from last Saturday running the line in this one. The team tried with all its might and created chances in the first half in particular. But really Wycombe were a better team and Vale needed to huff and puff to get anything. I think the whole defence needs sacking off. When we needed a tight ship in the last two home games they've been anything but. I thought we looked L1 level going forward. But it looks too late now.
  18. 13 shots, 3 on target. Keep the back door shut, there is still hope. However, Burton are beating Cheltenham 1-0.
  19. Defence 0 out of 10. Doing OK going forward but need to take chances.
  20. It looks like an up and under team to me. At leasst the defence will give the ball a punt when they give it away. To be fair Loft will put himself about and Uche played well on Saturday until he gassed.
  21. I like Darren Moore. I think we have also put in place a good coaching team around him. We haven't sorted out the scouting side of the organisation post Flitcroft. For many supporters like me, the Exeter second half was the final straw with many in this squad of players. It wasn't Darren Moore's fault. Nor was, for example, Smith kicking the ball to the opposition striker soon after kickoff whilst Ripley is out of goal as happened in his first home game. Tonight is a critical moment. If we can somehow stay up, then the approach to next season is different than going down. But fundamentally I believe if Darren Moore has a good set of players for either L1 or L2 he will get some good results. I can see he can coach and he handles public relations well.
  22. The team was ok first half v Exeter with Uche leading the line and holding the ball up. We looked threatening going forward and were adequate in defence. But second half, Uche obviously exhausted and taken off, the team had nothing going forward or in defence. I will say Ojo is decent midfield player. The problem is other players can't play. Give the ball to Chilslett, he's often too deep and is easily knocked over and dispossessed. Garrity is useful in forward areas, but not central midfield. Our wing backs are dreadful defenders. Why was Weir signed? I'm seeing Natuonal League with him. Our youngsters, Dipepe aside, are not L1 level yet - maybe never. But we just have to give it max effort and hope we have a bit of luck. It's a confidence game and we must hope Wycombe don't score first or the wheels may come off big time.
  23. The fat lady has picked up the mic. But she hasn't sung yet. So we just have to give it everything and hope on Tuesday. It is handy Burton are playing Cheltenham.
  24. To me, in the Lorne Street, Uche looked completely knackered. No surprise given his time off with injury. He was deservedly man of the match with his hold up play and carrying of the ball first half. He is why we were competitive with Exeter first half. After he went off we lost our means of going forward. We had nothing else. Exeter are a good side and they just pushed up and pressed the whole second half. Our defence is not good enough and a team that move the ball well, press well and cause defensive mistakes easily prevailed. I looked at the faces of the Vale players after the first Exeter goal, confidence completely drained from them. Not being able to bring Loft on was a problem. He would have caused a threat in behind and provided a target. Instead we had nothing up front. Dipepa is a goal scoring forward when he's facing forward and able to run at defences. But he's not a target man who can be played through / off.
  25. I felt Crosby was stuck with the ball going back and forth at the back. Moore has got PV to have a structure and play forward. But our players are not good enough. A good defence yesterday would have soaked up Exeter second half and hit on the break. We just looked like conceding goal after goal and did against a side that moved the ball well.
