I suggested nothing of the sort. The people in that meeting were all known to each other from previous campaigns against owners at Vale. We fought against the self interest of V2001 and the disgraceful ownership of Norman Smuthwaite.  In this case we had no issue with the owners, indeed we have huge respect for them. We simply wanted to convey the feelings of the fan base about the current situation on the pitch and who should take responsibility for our failings. We also raised a number of other issues about the disappointing fan experience on matchdays. I have huge trust in all the people who were at that meeting and I have to admit to being seriously pissed off with the negative response of a number of posters to what we were trying to do. Shouting at the internet achieves nothing. Face to face discussion may just achieve something. Please feel free to organise your own meeting and invited a cross section of 8 to 80 year olds to attend.

Surely she already knew the 'feelings of the fan base' and the 'disappointing fan experience on match days.' She goes to matches, she sees the crowd reaction to inept performances and hears the boos. She goes on the internet and knows the feelings of fans.  Why does this have to be pointed out to her, she already knows! You might as well  have asked her if she knew games kicked off at 3.00pm on a Saturday.

Why not ask her pertinent questions such as - why does she continue to employ DF?  Why hasn't the club signed a striker? Can't she see what is happening week after week on the pitch and if she can, why doesn't she do something about it? How long will she continue to employ DF? Is she considering selling the club? Why has it taken so long to repair the toilets?

Agreed. I remember when we first went down under Bratt and we were going to places like Barnet etc. Home matches against those clubs were flat. League 2 is where established league clubs like us go to die.

Our playoff win was different. We believed it was the start of better things. Relegation this time won’t be.

Exactly, atmosphere with a 5% or less attendance in the Bycars is not something I'm looking forward to.

But, it might not happen, as someone said after a generous liquid lunch.

A lot of predictions are guesswork as was the post I was responding to which said that our gates will not decrease much even if we get relegated. It’s a fair presumption we will go down rather than total guesswork and even said I am guessing when estimating the current drop in attendances, which I’ve just checked and we are 11% down on last season home attendances and 29% down on away following, so I wasn’t far off. Plus I never gave any reason why attendances have and will continue to drop, I just predicted they would so get your head out of your ass and post something useful rather that might actually agree or disagree.

Away following will sure to  suffer if/when we go down.

No full Bycars with Derby, Bolton or Barnsley gone, replaced by Forest Green Rovers, Crawley etc.

To make it worse relegation would also result in not playing well supported teams promoted from L2, such as Wrexham, Mansfield etc, and of course our stripey neighbours.

    Stick him up top.

He would score more than the useless clowns we currently have!

And yes that’s tongue in cheek but also a sad reality of the state of our striking options.

Why tongue in cheek? I'm sure he would score more than our current starlets.

I’m still asking myself how the hell have we ended up with effectively no strikers.  I can’t get my head around it.  It’s worse than gross negligence.  Flitcroft has to go.

It really is unbelievable, but it's true.

    Madness.

They’ve also got a fraction of our support and potential readers.  Forest Green are in Goucestershire so they’re competing for coverage with Cheltenham and also Gloucester Rugby.  They obviously have more than one reporter down there yet we don’t.  In fact I can look on the Gloucester Live sports pages and read about the likes of Bishops Cleeve FC and Tuffley Town while you’re trying to justify having no Vale coverage in the Sentinel.

FFS, read the effing paper, then you'll see we do have coverage!!!

Because I’d imagine in the case of Stevenage and forest green they’re the only club in their area. So it’s easier to report as they’ll only need the one reporter. Whereas the one reporter in our area gets taken up by stoke.

We’re not the only club who suffers from this. Pretty sure tranmere don’t even get bbc coverage of their games.

I've already said, Vale have someone reporting on them at The Sentinel called Clive Yulton,  who I think does a good job. He's not a general reporter who writes about dogs pooing the pavement, he only writes about the Vale and I think he does OK. Stoke have Peter Smith covering them.

I can understand this view, but the reality is, it’s this or nothing.

Like it or not we’ve got to face the fact it’s not profitable for reach plc to employ someone to solely cover the vale. We aren’t a big club. Local journalism is struggling so they’ll be cutting costs where they can.

    So, there’s two options:

    1. Don’t employ someone to specifically cover vale. Include pretty basic match reports (maybe even provided by the club) along with a real barebones coverage, but this is provided in the paper/on the website.

    2. Use their current model where we have a dedicated Port Vale journalist, writing 3/4 high quality articles a week - for £10 a year.

Personally it’s a no brainer to me and I’d go for the second every time, but like I said I do understand the frustrations behind having no free coverage.

I've just read a 2 page Exeter v Vale match report by Clive Youlton - I don't see his name on any other news report, and never have???

All the comments about value not withstanding, I really don't see why we should be asked to pay a subscription for club news - about a local team - from a local paper.

All the best to MB but I refuse to pay for something that should be offered by the Sentinel already. Absolutely crazy, and I won't give them anything for what they should be delivering already.

I quite agree with that, 100%.

I have no problem with Mike at all, more the principle that he's being used by an organisation who clearly have very little regard for Vale or him (why would they have scrapped his role in the first place?) as a way of grabbing money off a fanbase when, with another club in the same city, they feel its ok to provide for free.

As I say, I really don't see what it can provide that isn't available anywhere else, other than Mike himself, which, as I'm sure he's a nice bloke and good journalist, isn't worth 40 quid a year for rehashing press conference quotes, a match report we should have to pay to read anyway and then the odd opinion piece.

There's never been more ways to access a variety of opinion and information for free, here, social media, Ale and the Vale, Radio Stoke all provide a lot of free Vale coverage and and interviews and opinion, why should I give The Sentinel 40 quid a year for someone else's opinion??

    Todays Sentinel -

3 pages on Stoke City with 7 photos.  2 columns only on Vale, no photos.
