  1. Yes, a telling comment. The iFollow away commentators against Carlisle reckoned that Ripley and Garrity were both chequebook ready and Chizzy is also clearly up there on the potential transfer board. All a bit too destabilising for me though; if we want to progress, we have to find ways of keeping the core of our best players intact or we can dice with relegation in the second half of the season like we did last year. We'll see but if we start the second half of the season with a weaker squad than we started, it will be more than a bit disappointing.
  2. Yes, well worth watching. Lots of poor league 2 defending but there's no doubting the quality of this lad. Bradford seem to want a packet for him if even Carlisle's minted owners won't pay the asking, so I doubt he's in our price range. Some nice goals though, making me wonder when the last time was we had such a prolific striker (think he bagged 16 in 20 games).
  3. I agree it's too harsh to say that Carol would be cashing in as she has previously said that all the money coming into the club would be spent on the club and there is plenty of evidence for that. We have good owners who care for the club and are looking after it. Every club will have its ups and downs, even those with more money than us. I was though slightly perturbed last January, when we let some good players go, that she said it had been a good January, a sentiment contradicted by DC. It seemed to me then that Carol was saying it had been good financially while DC was saying not in football terms. That was the beginning of a long hard struggle for the rest of the season. Just hoping we don't have a repeat.
  4. If he does go today - to Wycombe - could he conceivably line up against us on Saturday? Tbh, that would be a hard pill to swallow after his recent performances that have changed our attacking style, making it more direct, less tippy-tappy and much more entertaining. Whatever happens, if a deal is in the offing, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him left out after all the interest that has allegedly been shown in him, making the pill even more bitter with Loft his obvious immediate replacement. Personally, I’d like him to stay not least because we are just starting to show some really potent attacking play rather than our insipid side to side passing approach. For all his faults, Uche is one player opposition teams will always struggle to contain.
  5. My guess is that's exactly what they're thinking. When you already have L1's top scorer, Uche would be the perfect foil for him. So I hope Vale are bearing this in mind when they negotiate a decent fee for him and have a replacement in the bag before we let him go. Otherwise, it would be a massive act of self-harm. Assuming, of course, that all these rumours are true...
  6. So did Plymouth - four Championship and one Premier - and they seem to be doing quite well on it.
  7. Correct. The FA is still the ultimate body responsible for the governance of the game. Whatever the EFL does is subject to the FA’s rules and regulations. How this will change when the new Independent Regulator is in place remains to be seen.
  8. The nub of this issue is the vexed problem of unsuitable owners, which has blighted football for over 30 years or so since the setting up of the premier league. For those with the time, here are two articles. The first is an excellent piece first published two years ago by the Guardian's David Conn, distilling the history and the repeated attempts by the Premiership and other self-interested parties to thwart any change, which is now going to be imposed on them by legislation thanks to the Fan-Led Review led by Tracey Crouch (known as the Crouch Review). Crouch review a genuine landmark for football with possibility of real change | Football | The Guardian WWW.THEGUARDIAN.COM The second, also by a Guardian journalist, Paul MacInnes, sets out the historic decision to set up an independent regulator to ensure the review's recommendations can be implemented. This is the first time that the lobbying by football's financial interests has been defeated. UK government to introduce legislation to create independent football regulator | Football | The Guardian WWW.THEGUARDIAN.COM There is still a long way to go to ensure that unfit and improper owners can be drummed out of the game but perhaps, just perhaps, this is a better start than anything that's been achieved previously. Football's vested interests will fight hard to emasculate the regulator and the fan led Football Supporters Association will need to continue their fight. So let's wish them well in what is going to be a hard battle on behalf of genuine fans across the country.
  9. The full paragraph reads: The Management Committee shall review all Competition Matches abandoned in cases where it is consequent upon the conduct of either or both Teams. Where it is to the advantage of the Competition and does no injustice to either Club, the Management Committee shall order the score at the time of the abandonment to stand. In all cases where the Management Committee are satisfied that a Match was abandoned owing to the conduct of one Team or its Club member(s) they shall award the points for the Match to the opponent. In cases where a Match has been abandoned owing to the conduct of both Teams or their Club member(s), the Management Committee shall rule that neither Team will be awarded any points for that Match and it shall not be replayed. No fine(s) can be applied by the Management Committee for an abandoned Match. It also refers to matches under the jurisdiction of County FA's (hence "Management Committees") and not EFL matches so I don't think we will be seeing the three points any time soon, much as I'd like to
  10. That’s a good read, LL. It seems the general principle that the football authorities prefer to see the result of a game settled on the pitch rather than by their decision. So the odds are, imho, that they will order a replay, charge Reading and then refer the matter to their Disciplinary Committee for adjudication. They do though have a problem in the precedent this might set if the offending club, in this case Reading, win any replay as the fans of other teams might think they can gain an advantage from a losing position in a critical game. I would assume, therefore, that the punishment would be so severe (eg a huge points deduction) that any attempts to get games abandoned would be totally disincentivised. Reading are in for some serious punishment.
  11. Sorry fellah but No - outside the ground, at their own club’s events, marches through the town, chants during the game, Yes. But interrupting the game involving another club is unacceptable. Not as unacceptable though I agree as the EFL’s incompetence. Nevertheless, they should keep off the pitch. Reading will surely be hammered for this with another points deduction and fine but whether all this results in their owner going is anyone’s guess.
  12. Yes, but this the EFL we are dealing with 🤯🤪😱
  13. The BBC report on the Oldham invasion said that “Protests remained in place for some time after, but once the pitch had been cleared, the teams returned to play out the remaining time behind closed doors.”
  14. When Oldham fans invaded the pitch last season in their last game, the pitch was cleared and remaining 14 minutes played behind closed doors Oldham Athletic 1-2 Salford City: Latics relegated after protest interrupts match - BBC Sport WWW.BBC.CO.UK
  15. Doubt we’ll know until FA/EFL have checked their rules. Anyone know what the rule book says?
  16. Hume is listed by Sunderland and Portsmouth as a left back. Neither refers to him as a wingback nor a winger and, as far as I can see, he's never played in either position though he has made 3 appearances for Pompey on the left of midfield. Technically he may be fit but after he came back from injury in August 22, he played on 10 or so occasions in that season. In 23-24, he's played once - in an EFL trophy match but never in the league. So, in two seasons, he's started very few league matches and this season has been limited to a few appearances as a sub. So here we have a player with a history of injuries whose return to fitness has never been tested by the regular hard grind of competitive league matches. I know we have a tendency to sign injury-hit players but signing even one more would, imho, be too much. Shallow puddle or not, I would suggest we've had enough of such signings - a few who are rarely on the treatment table would suit us much better.
  17. Good article here on Denver Hume. Apparently cost Pompey £200k but has hardly played because of a prolapsed disc that then affected his calf muscle. Good player but after signing one injury-prone left wingback in Grant, can’t see us risking another. Just a moment... WWW.PORTSMOUTH.CO.UK
  18. Think they were both there the same time and Jensen will of course also know Ripley, so potentially good for team building. Looks a good player, fingers crossed.
  19. Just hoping it is a short-term option to cover Ben who is the first on the team sheet, the backbone of the team for me. Those are big shoes to fill unless we need to sell for the money. Every player has his price but we should be asking a fortune for Ben who is growing into one of the EFL’s most accomplished goalscoring midfielders. Going to go away now and bury my head in the sand before it explodes at the thought of selling Gazza 😱
  20. Goalscoring midfielder in; goalscoring midfielder (Gazza) out? I blinking hope not!
  21. Best line on the tea rota where my missus used to work...Alcock and Balls, Always got a cheer 😀
  22. Then we're done. If my ageing memory serves me correctly, I recall last January DC said we'd had a poor window and Carol said it was a good 'un: one from a footballing perspective and one from a finance point of view. We, as fans, then suffered on the rack for the rest of the season. Maybe I'm wrong but January doesn't ever seem like a good time of the year for us as far as signings go.
  23. I've done my best to forget him over the years but he keeps coming back to haunt me like Banquo's Ghost. It's a special sort of PVFC PTSD. Mentally scarred for life - I can no longer relax when we're three or four up, it has to be 5 or 6 or 7 - and even then......
