  1. We've managed 39 points from 40 games so far i.e. barely one point per game. To get us to your 50 points (or maybe more given, our relatively worse GD) we need a  further say 11 or 12 points from just 6 matches i.e. an average of around 2 points per game. A tough enough ask with a team flying full of confidence let alone our current misfiring bunch! I really do hope that you're nearer the mark than me with your calculations, but more than 70 yrs of supporting PV has taught me to be more realistic than optimistic.
Having said all that, my fingers (and everything else) firmly crossed that we can celebrate a minor miracle come the season's end!
Really don't feel more optimistic than you, just calculating our needs. We either turn into a promotion team or rely on others to avoid another relegation, maybe in miracle territory. Probably seen as many relegations as you, having been involved from our Div3 South days, never happy times but part of football. Prefer not to see another one.

For the record, I don't agree that playing Friday should have left them too tired for today

Just get sick and tired of the "they get loads of money so they can't ever underperform" thing

Same as playing Saturday and playing Tuesday, how many Tuesday wins over the last 2 years?  Another high tempo game after Friday with a thin squad is pushing it.

    Loving your optimism!

Not really, the alternative to the away win would be 3 away draws.  So an away win at Wigan? Relying on Bolton being in a confirmed number 3 spot and resting players for the POs is another alternative if we need 51 points due to our goal difference.

My comment above referred to their second goal. It wasn't insinuating that we're down. All still to play for, but I do believe we'll need 50 points which obviously means another 11 points in final 6 games. A tough ask from this current team!

Promotion form 12 points from 6 games, 3 home wins and 1 win away, gives us 51 points.

It’s simply not realistic for us to take that gamble. Clubs like them can afford to give up decent sums on potential and who knows how Baylee ultimately turns out as a player. Could injury derail him or whatever? It’s not a position we are in. Looking at the article from Nixon United are keen to make it happen as I daresay the likes of Arsenal will no doubt start looking too so am pretty certain any deal would be beneficial to us too. Maybe they throw in a full season of Dan Gore on loan and see what he can really do as well to sweeten it for us.

Down to the player mainly, difficult with the Prem money and facilities available. All players are gambles, what will be offered in August is conjecture at present.

Dipepa has scored a couple of goals at L1 level and 3 goals for England U18. This is not to be sniffed at in any way and looks very promising for Port Vale. But Dipepa on the bench for Man Utd next season as they try to get the Premier League title off Liverpool, Man City or Arsenal under their next manager? I need to see him score a few more goals for Port Vale and show he's a natural at that. Then maybe.

He has 7 L1 games and the U17 competition in Cyprus May/June to establish his breakthrough.

It seems an almost certainty after what he did with England that a PL club will take a chance on him in the summer.

Hopefully he can continue his progress & score the goals to keep us up in the meantime.

Will be interesting to see if he does go what sort of fee we would get for him.

With the money spent by PL clubs, and the fact of his England call up & performances making him one of the top prospects in England at his age group, doesn't seem unreasonable to think we could get a record fee for him, breaking the £2m we got for Ainsworth many years ago.

Sell on clause more important as a possible Bellingham?

Hope Baylee is as level-headed as some have said and doesn’t let all this ‘paper talk’ affect his attitude and, more importantly for us at the moment, his form.  He may well have to start tomorrow, with Willo hobbling off on Friday, which may be no bad thing as he and Lofty had some good interchanges against Bristol Rovers and both looked a threat.

7 games in April, so could form a working relationship with careful management of his stamina, and hopefully avoidance of injury. Then onto Cyprus to hone his skills with England U17s

  9. Tommy Johnson is still head of recruitment according to PV website.
Does anyone know exactly what he does because he must have been hand in hand with Flitcroft for last few years!
The usual function of a Recruitment Manager is to maintain a data base of players likely to be useful for the club, 3 transfer windows ahead likely. Contract and pay info.
Manage scouts and analysts. Provide list of targets to suit a window for negotiation. Whether Johnson will be replaced who knows?

Personally don't see them involved in it myself. We need 7 points just to overhaul them because of our horrendous goal difference .

Be amazed if they are dragged into it.

Probably now their chances of a further points deduction have decreased, but they have an away game at Burton which may affect us

Actually I was trying to ask the question, hence the question mark, as to whether or not some of the money spent on community projects could have gone  towards a better player budget. Obviously it was a hamfisted attempt, but I can glean the answer from the replies.  However, since I am not an accountant, I must remember not to ask any further financial questions and I assume (probably incorrectly) that other non-accountants will do the same.

Only an accountant can answer your question. Should some of the Port Vale profits not have been spent on community projects, or Carol have spent their money in a different manner? Bearing  in mind that few L1 clubs make a profit what is an accountant likely to find?

Obviously all games at the bottom are massive at this stage.

Fleetwood v Cheltenham this Friday I'd be hoping for a draw 🙏

Ultimately we got take care of our own business but outside help always comes into the equation.

Including Reading in the mix, there are 6 6pointers to be played so their results could well be decisive. Let us hope we can have the final say.
