  1. I shall watch the Coventry Semi final at the week-end but boycott the other one. Not that it will make an iota of difference, but as they say " When a butterfly flutters its wings in the Amazon a chain reaction can cause a Tornado in Texas."

I’m sure this is not the first time it’s been suggested but would having a fan rep/director or two on the board be a way forward to rebuild fan relationships with the owners? Who that might be would be the challenge- elected by 1876 club and season ticket holders (ie club ‘members’) perhaps with annual/seasonal elections? Get the impression our CEO may be up for it but don’t know if anyone else currently on the board would be.

Found this posed by an Everton fan group a few years ago. Food for thought?

Excellent idea, but how many directors as quoted in the article do we have?

  3. Apparently we would be playing better football and having fewer injuries once we replaced the pitch. That was the preferred option  rather than spending money on decent players. Phenomenal.
Main pitch not replaced, just stage 1 drainage completed. Training pitches require drainage attention to cope with increased rainfall due to climate change.

I've just been reflecting on how so many of my greatest memories as a Vale fan have involved cup replays.

The FA Cup giantkillings over Southampton, Derby County and Everton were all achieved via a replay. The 1988 cup run involved two replays while the 1998 penalty shootout loss to Arsenal was also the result of a replay.

Further back and before my time, the famous run to the semi-final in 1954 also involved a replay win in the early stages.

    :upthevale:

At one time there was no limit to the number of replays, at the Liverpool game we were wondering on how to get to Old Trafford for the 2nd Replay and then Thomson ended the dream. It was a wise decision to limit replays to one, probably with the invention of penalty shoot -outs

Sadly Fosse all irrelevant to the greedy Premier boys.

They aren't bothered by Alfreton Town holding Derby to a draw and playing in front of a big crowd and TV money.

They are just a self entitled bunch of moaning Minnie's

That is what the FA Cup is all about, 99% of the teams don't expect to win it. Just the odd big game to treasure.

  6. The Greed League need more TV slots to cope with the expansion of the various European competitions.  What great FA Cup replays we would have missed Sunderland, Liverpool, Crystal Palace, Everton, Arsenal, come to mind straight away and the 3-1 victory in the rain.  What about the loss of gate money?

TV crews set-up for the Port Vale v Swindon Town play-off game in 2022

The Football League have announced a new multi-million TV deal with Sky Sports which will spell the end of the iFollow service for domestic supporters. Here’s what we know about the deal so far…

The new Premier League deal cancelling FA Cup Replays from the First round is another blow.

Port vale is a football club. That’s exactly what we are. I couldn’t care less about this.

But football at our level depends on charity, match receipts are insufficient. At present we rely on the owners putting money in, and they are not likely to get it back. Other charity work is carried out at the ground (funded partially  by the state and local sources). The owners did charity work before buying the Vale, it was not likely they would stop.

  9. I think we will still have a sniff potentially as Reading should beat Burton and Lincoln Cheltenham all be it party rather have it over and done with!
I hope we just go there and have a go, nothing to lose now and sitting back for a 3-0 defeat is pointless at this stage. Take the game to them, they are all but out the race now for auto's so may rest a few touch and go players fitness wise for the Play Offs.
    Guaranteed a 4th place.

  10. It isn’t Smurf. The idea he’d write a post concerned with anyone else but himself is just impossible.

If it was him and he wants to show concern, how about joining forces with Carol and stick his money in if he wants to show support. Go from villian to hero.
It was Smurf, but doubt he will hold a con versation on here.

That was back in the day when a manager was a manager not a head coach or any other term they may be called now. Things have moved on since then. We may not need a DOF (I think we do, with Carol in charge) but we cannot have a manager in control of everything, especially not Moore.

As a matter of interest who has Moore signed in his previous clubs where there was no DoF or equivalent.

  12. I don't think Darren Moore can leave if he wants to continue a career in management.
I'm sure I read somewhere he's won 5 games of football in his last 40 odd games as manager.
    Just been relegated.
    His stock is low.
His best plan now would be to lead us into the playoffs/promotion to rebuild his reputation.
If he stays, and we're not doing well in L2, gets sacked before Christmas, he's finished.
Then, someone else will try to get a tune out of the players Moore has signed. I hope not and he can turn us around. The purpose of a DoF is continuity when managers have such short periods at clubs. Just because we have a poor one does not make it a bad system. In the meantime, the Ceo will have to run the show.

I can't imagine the Shanahans wanting to stick around next year if (when) we are relegated. The humiliation will be total. That said, who could they off-load the Club to, having destroyed most of the value in it other than as a property development opportunity?

Relegation is part of football, setbacks are part of business, learn from it and move on.

A good scouting network is good yes. Its not good if we are changing our squad for every manager that gets sacked either.

It is up to the DoF to ensure he has a good scouting network, know as Recruitment in modern football speak.

My opinion most people probably disagree

We should keep Darren more and see how he does.

Bring in a good dof. This will allow a long term strategie and allow the manager to focus on the pitch while having input in player recruitment and not having to worry about anything else.

The problem with having a manager as a sort of mix of manger and dof like how rudge used to be is that manager sometime are only at the club for 5 months to 2 years. This means that strategie will change frequently and there won't be a long term plan. New managers will often want to bring in there own players and style of play which could put the club into alot of debt as we bring in new players as managers come and go. Not necessarily because players are bad but because the manager we recruit may want to play wingers instead of wingbacks oor the play in question might not fit the play style. You understand what I mean.

Back in the 80s and 90s managers lasted much longer so the wasn't much change in strategy.

Assuming he accepted the job on the basis of the club playing style and business plan as defined by the DoF at the time, and would be given the funds to recruit the appropriate players to play that style, the need for a DoF is not urgent. Assuming by now he has identified where replacements are needed and will be given the funds appropriate to L1 or L2 to bring them in.  His tenure will then depend upon his performance. During that period suitable DoFs to be identified to continue the clubs progress in spite of setbacks.

  16. Carol has had a really bad 18 months with here decision making. Please don't add to this list by doing an on-field speech at the end of the Cambridge match !

By then, the outline plan for next season should be ready. A brief statement by the CEO would be preferable.
