  2. New strikers Mark Cullen and Richie Bennett netted in each half as Port Vale beat Kidsgrove Athletic 2-1. Cullen tapped the ball home in the first-half and Bennett headed home in the second forty five.   4. Huddersfield Town have confirmed the signing of teenage Port Vale winger Luke Daley (pictured left). The official Huddersfield Town website confirmed: Daley, 16, is an attack-minded, left-sided player who is comfortable on the wing or at full-back. He joins from the Port Vale Academy, signing an initial two-year scholarship and joining up with Town’s Under-17 squad, led by Jon Worthington. Cheshire Schoolboys captain Daley has been compared to Ryan Giggs and has been in the Vale junior ranks for eight years.   5. Port Vale manager John Askey says five of the club’s six trialists will play during the friendly game against Kidsgrove. Vale’s opening friendly takes place on Saturday and all but one of the trial players will take part. The Valiants introduced six trialists to their squad earlier this week as they look for a replacement for departed back-up keeper Sam Hornby and also to add to outfield positions.   9. Former Port Vale left-back Kiko has moved to Olympiacos Nicosia, newly promoted to the Cyprus top tier. Kiko spent a year with Port Vale making 21 appearances but moved back to Portugal after leaving the Valiants.   13. New Port Vale striker Richie Bennett says he will work hard once he starts playing in a Port Vale shirt. Bennett signed on a two-year contract earlier in the summer and told the official Port Vale YouTube channel that he is “excited” ahead of the new campaign.   14. Port Vale have confirmed that youngsters Lucas Green-Birch and Joe Birks have agreed professional contracts. The pair have agreed six month contracts and join fellow oyuth team graduate Ryan Campbell-Gordon who has signed a two-year deal. The deal will being in further revenue for new owners Carol and Kevin Shanahan on top of heavy season ticket sales. Gime Toure / released The powerful striker (pictured right) played for Vale in their friendly with Kidsgrove but wasn’t taken on. He has moved twice in the meantime.   18. Port Vale have announced that they have sold just short of 3,500 season tickets during the early bird period alone. The number is just short of the 3,500 season tickets sold in total last season and does not include hospitality tickets which were included last season. With the inclusion of hospitality tickets this season’s total figure is already over 4,000.   24. Port Vale have revealed that they have sold over 3,000 season tickets with days of the early day period still remaining. The club told the Sentinel newspaper that they had sold 3,075 by Friday evening. The club is also not including hospitality box sales in the figure – unlike other recent seasons. Last season’s total was 3,500 and with two days left in the early bird period plus sales after that still to come, that figure should be comfortably broken this season.   25. Former Port Vale defender Chris Banks is returning to Vale Park as the club’s new physio. The club’s current physio Alex Poulton will act as Banks’ deputy. Banks progressed through the club’s youth ranks to make 87 appearances between 1984 and 1988. He helped the club to promotion in 1986. He later had lengthy playing spells with Bath City and Cheltenham Town. Banks qualified as physio and has had a lengthy spell at neighbours Stoke City.
