  1. What a disappointing thing to read from a fellow vale fan.

  2. This shows you what a fickle world football is. At half time on 14th November Askey was a good manager. Seven weeks later he’s gone. Very sad. Thanks for all your efforts John and Dave. They were appreciated in some quarters.

  3. I'm not happy that he's supposedly lost his job. Unlike Scumthwaite, it's difficult to celebrate someone getting the boot when they're actually an affable and nice bloke. I feel really harsh for saying it but unfortunately I just didn't think he was up to it and his limitations could no longer be covered up. No plan B, one dimensional tactics, inability to react or change a game are all criticisms that we have all been frustrated by since he started. It's unpleasant but what can you do. I can imagine Carol is actually quite upset. I have never felt sorry for a departing Va

  4. Message / request to Martin Tideswell. Can we please have a bit more general communication around what’s happening at the club. And I don’t mean the manager situation... I’m talking just general things Port Vale. I had no idea that Richard Duffy was back working at the vale until it was on Radio Stoke today. We have heard nothing from Billy Paynter since his return, an interview would be fascinating. I would love to know his thoughts on his career and what he brings. What’s his official role, he was on the bench today I think... what’s his role in this interim period. How

  5. If you don't want to play for the club, leave. If you need faith in your manager to be able to succesfully pass a ball 2 yards, you're in the wrong profession. If you have lost faith in your manager, at the very least do the jobs that you are being paid very well to do to the best of your abilities. If you are deliberately causing trouble behind the scenes, hang your head in shame. If you want a new contract, either here or elsewhere, play for it. If you have a problem with your manager, have the decency to air it.

  6. Days like today are why I hate football sometimes. I’m not sure why people are rejoicing. Yes I wanted a change, but this is a genuinely sad day for the club and a very decent guy who obviously thinks a lot of the place has lost his job. I hope the players sit up and take note. Thanks John for keeping us in the League, Crewe away, Man City away and the subsequent run and Bolton (when was the last time we scored 6 away?).

  7. That's enough for me want someone different. Sick of these players getting everything they want. They decided they didnt want the last man, so downed tools. Get someone in from the outside and if they dont like it, they can <ovf censored> off.

  8. We all have read the theories and rumours. Askey, Sinclair, Mckirdy, Robinson, Pugh, Garlick. All and more mentioned in disparaging ways throughout the season. I think last season in hindsight did us no favours just missing out and the national acclaim for our magnanimous vote to end the season early. The majority ( myself included) got giddy as we beat Crawley and Exeter. Immediately the cracks appeared ,3 successive games without a goal brought us down to earth. We then played ok against Salford and well against Cheltenham. Back in contention. Whatever has happene

  10. Very telling words I'd really really really love to know why there was neither a minutes silence or a minute applause for the very sad loss of one of our own Charlie and a superb player from our hey day in Johnny Jeffers This needs to be pointed out to whoever that it is totally unacceptable and I'm maybe too strong here , but downright disrespectful. The no crowd has no bearing on it. Rest in peace 2 great blokes and shame on no respect being shown at 3-00pm

  11. I'll make some fairly controversial comments here. We're being let down by the entire club, at present. There is a complete abandonment of anyone to take a decision and sort this chaos out. We're meandering, with the club in shambles. Leaks all over the show. Players disinterested, making uncharacteristic mistakes, and looking like a group of strangers. A managerial team of rookies, supplemented by two lads who a few weeks ago were running drills with the U14s. It's non-league. I'm afraid Carol is not covering herself in glory here. I am a massive fan of her, but she's not handling

  12. I think this is a mistake. Carol has more than earned the right to make calls as she sees them, and I'm right behind whoever she chooses as a successor. However, I think JA was capable of turning it around. He got us playing decent football at times and would have taken us up last year if Covid hadn't come along. With the window approaching, I think he knows better than anyone what needs to change in terms of personnel - will a new manager have the same understanding? Ultimately, recruitment has cost John his job, but his ability to improve players like Joyce, Wozza and Gibbo will stand us in

  13. I'd like to say thanks to John for all his hard work, for coming in and turning the team around and for the highs we felt during his tenure. Sadly results dictate that things couldn't carry on the way they have been more recently and change was inevitable. Edit: mention also to Dave Kevan. Thanks for your efforts and best of luck in the future.

  14. Ok apologies for suggesting you anti Askey posters would be gutted tonight. I accept we are all Vale with different views but some of the comments on here pillorying Carol for not sacking him were absolutely disgusting attacks on what she has achieved after saving the club in the first place. Yes the last 6 weeks have been awful results wise but so many games went against us in injury time. Two when we had battled with ten men. Ok there weren't 5 first team missing in all those games but injuries to key players have had an affect. Regarding the 'poor' signings in Summer. Well if I remember

  17. Get him gone. Did anyone see him today, smiling at some point? Since returning to the club he has overseen failure after failure. What advice is he offering to the board, it must be terrible! Get him gone. While we're at it, get everyone else gone too. All of them. Except for Brown who I like. Knock the stadium down, it's overseen nothing but failure since the 90s. Even though I was pleased about almost everything to do with the club about 6 months ago, I am now furious and demand action. Why hasn't Carol responded to this post with a statement? She's probably too busy making a cheese sandwich

  18. This signing is a prime example of how a club can benefit from respected owners. Players can now see that they will be looked after properly which was not the case under our previous owner. Not only have the Shanahans saved the club, they have restored its reputation in the football world.

  19. I wouldn't overly get carried away as this is our worst team for as long as I can remember. You really didn't have to play well to beat us though and I think you have far more tougher challenges to come. Holloway has shafted our club from top to bottom dont go anywhere near him. He was the biggest con artist to ever cross our paths. He is just a showman and mad one at that. Good luck for the rest of the season.

  20. Absolutely disgusted with some players involvement in this. Whilst they remain comfortable on their cushy contracts with no chance of being sacked JA, who gave them the benefit of the doubt when he arrived and kept faith in most this season, without which most would probably be without a club, has his livelihood stripped away. Good luck JA, and thanks. Shame on the majority of our players, particularly the senior ones

  21. I wrote this one off last week as I expected not a lot from this game so to go a goal down and show some character In keeping them out and going on to score a late equaliser shows some grit and determination in the team under Pugh. We’re far from a finished side and a bit off in terms of a play offs side for me, but for the little time Pughs been in control we’ve got four points and put some work in and got the results. Guthrie will improve us no end up top and we know what Taylor adds in goals and energy. experienced managers may work or may not it really is as simple as that. What

  23. Sorry mate but I can’t believe what you’re saying. You say you’re right every single time, well in my opinion you are absolutely wrong in your view of today’s game. Our defence today was ten times better than against Mansfield. With Conlon and Taylor the midfield was more mobile and when Rodney went out wide he got us the point. It wasn’t a brilliant performance, it was a hard working team performance against a team who were top of the live table during the afternoon on their own ground. What the hell are you expecting when our best provider and one of our best strikers weren’t even on the pit

  25. To the players. I have watched the excellent training sessions on many occasions and the input from John Askey,Dave Kevan and John Rudge has been second to none.Whatever has happened on the pitch afterwards is a mystery to me.The games Ive watched have been dross and bear NO comparison to the training input.I'm convinced certain players have stirred up a hornets nest at the Vale. The reason certain players haven't been involved is because they don't make the effort in training.Lets hope for a strict new manager who can kick these individuals up the backside or out of the club.Thank you, the AS

  26. I feel for Askey. He came across as a gentleman who wanted the best for Port Vale and always conducted himself with integrity. As others have said, he saved us 18 months ago, gave us that great day out at City and but for Covid might well have got us in the play-offs. I'll happily shake his hand in thanks and gratitude and I'm very sorry it hasn't worked out. That said, managers live and die by results and we've seen a number of abysmal displays of late. A very embarrassing Cup defeat, several home games that have been akin to watching paint dry, and a recent run if 6/36 points is clearly

  27. I’ve tried to calm down but I can’t, I’m so livid still. I can take losing, I’m a Vale fan so it happens fairly regularly, if we play well but are beaten by the better team, give it all but have an off day I can accept that. I can’t accept yesterday as I couldn’t Boxing Day. I don’t know if any players read this forum but if you do how dare you! How dare you wear that crest on your chest and not put the effort it! This is a working class club and the bare minimum we expect if you to go out there and try and win the game, give it your all regardless of if it’s good enough or not to win on t

  28. The view that we “dipped” after Sinclair arrived is false. He was appointed in August. Prior to the Kings Lynn game we were flying high in the table and that was in November. In terms of coaching credentials he holds the UEFA A badge which I suspect is a higher coaching qualification that anyone on OVF and potentially higher than anyone currently at the club (I believe Pugh has his UEFA B badge). The very simple fact is that a significant number of the playing squad are just not good enough. Of those who are good enough I would suggest only Conlon and Worrall (and perhaps Rodders) ha

  29. This isn't me getting all aboard the Sinclair train by any stretch. I'd be quite happy to wake up tomorrow morning to find Sinclair Pugh and half the playing staff have been shipped out by a new manager we can all get behind. However, I find this constant character assassination of Sinclair baffling, especially considering nobody can seem to tell us what he's actually done to become so hated, apart from run a rugby match.

  30. So who else are we going to blame next? It was Askey's fault. It's Carol's fault. It's Pugh's fault. It's Carol's lad's fault? Now it's Colin Garlick's fault??? Bloody hell this is crazy.

  33. The problem with football fans is they are fickle. An loss to a smaller club or a bad run of form and they call for the manager and say things like the dressing room has been lost with no evidence. Most football fans do it because they love their club but sometimes its rash. This was Askeys first bad patch and I think he would have turned it around. Either way there is never going to be any stability if we keep calling for a manager to go if they lose form. With every new manager comes an overhaul of players that can never settle down. How many clubs can say they are doing well that change the

  34. Marian Humphreys is the finance director, a role she has at Synectics and one needed in any business. Ian Lewis is one of the main IT blokes at Synectics - much needed at a football club these days. Richard Wood has been involved in tracking fraud in his role at Synectics - probably useful for keeping an eye on our former owner! I think Robb Moorhouse is involved in sales and marketing. This is not just about running a football club, it's about running a successful business in the world of football. I'm not actually sure what the point of the original post was.

  36. Would we even be having all this finger pointing if we were 7th in the league and Askey was in still charge? Probably not - Garlick would then be the steady Eddie behind the scenes helping us to stabilise a push for the playoffs or better, the manager would be doing a great job, the owners would still be getting plaudits for their good work, and the players (who are the only ones who affect our league position on the pitch when push comes to shove) would be "legends". But we aren't 7th are we? Why? Well, the players have been beaten quite a lot lately, so we ditched Askey, and have players s

  37. Here is the issue. £1m loss due to the pandemic. I accept that. I can accept what she said in the RS interview about the ramifications of it. I don't accept the excuse that a new manager would disrupt the dressing room. Carol, there's nothing to disrupt, maybe if we were 10+ points clear at the top. I can accept why she would feel she's forced to stick with Pugh. We all know she's already put in a genuinely outrageous amount of money. The grade 1 clowns attacking her on facebook, and occasionally on here, are extremely out of order to the point of delusion. Who do yo

  38. Seriously now, why have Sinclair and Pugh been given a chance? What qualifications, experience etc etc etc have they got to warrant this opportunity? I was all for sacking Askey, his time was clearly up. However, if you are going to sack him don’t come out with rubbish like we are in no rush to look for a new manager. Nothing has changed. We are still crap and are no sooner down the line in appointing a new manager. We had one win against a terrible Grimsby side and suddenly Carol and Pope are on the radio singing Pugh’s praises and acting as if everything is rosey. We’ve also heard it al

Been around a couple of seasons, so knows what to expect. To me there is more optimism with this signing than with Taylor. We now have Rodney, Taylor and Guthrie, all the same mould of player andjust what we needed 6 months ago. Need to get behind them now.
