  1. Crosby's record gets better and better... 8 wins 4 draws and 1 loss ... 64% rate We are so lucky to have the manager and assistant manager we have at this club

  2. Just so much this, it is not so long ago that our little club was threatened with closure. I really cannot imagine the impact that would have had on the community in Burslem, neither can I imagine what I would have done with my Saturdays. Even before that the club was on its arse, due to complete mismanagement for the longest time. Now, in every interview, the topics of togetherness and community within the club come up. It seems to permeate every aspect of the club. Looking at where Oldham are now brings into focus where we were, and where we would be if not for the intervention of our current owners.

  3. Wherever we finish the players, staff and fans have done the club proud this season. The injuries we’ve had (no strikers for weeks), the absence of the manager in tragic circumstances, no penalty for 12 months. I know every side has their hard luck moments over a season but we’ve had some serious issues to deal with and yet still find ourselves in with a shout. No matter what happens from here on this year has been a triumph. Let’s hope it is crowned with a promotion.

  5. Cheers m8. It's going really well. Had 9mm of bone taken out of my thigh 10 days ago and I'm amazed how well I'm recuperating. Thought I might have an outside chance of making Exeter - just an hour down the road from me, but didn't think I'd make Vale Park again this season. Now I'm thinking I might make the Newport match; but I'd need to come up on the train - going to check today as, with it now being a BH match, I might be screwed! ☹️ KTK and UTV - WNE

  6. Think I've just about calmed down now, that was not a fun finish to the game! 🥴 Preface this with saying it's not a criticism given how awesomehe'sbeen this last couple of months, (more likely just a first slight sign of jitters given the position we're in), but I actually think yesterday may have seen a first small mis-step from AC. If he was planning to take off Wilson around the hour, why not do that for Hussey and move Edmondson up, rather than bringing Harratt on in between? Thought we wasted a sub there that we really needed in that last 10 minutes, especially as Edmondson must have had his tail up after that tremendous assist. Also, part of the reason we lost the midfield last 20 was that we dropped too deep, something we used to do a lot when in the lead, but not so often recently. That's possibly because Oldham were quite nippy up top and pushed us back, but meant there was too big a gap between back 6 (as it turned into) and front 2 for Charsley and Garrity to patrol, despite their best efforts. Credit to Oldham and their fans, really hope they stay up, definitely think they deserve to based on our two games this season, but given the additional quality we showed first half we probably made that harder for ourselves than it needed to be. Great that we're winning scrappily though, testament to the fortitude we have in this squad. My Leicester fan mate who came along for the game said it was a cracking game for the (almost) neutral, thought we were the better side overall, and it was right result given first half quality. Was impressed with Wilson's touch, Proctor's general play, the second goal and in particular Edmondson's assist. We both reckon Vale are going up, although I might find the process of getting there more stressful than him! UTBV!

  7. No point trying to predict how many points we need because at the moment it looks like a straight fight between us and Mansfield. We need to match them stride for stride.

  8. Guys any news on Wozzer...?? Day and watched it on the couch trying not to rupture my stitched; great game but heart was in my mouth towards the end. Ugly win but I'll take winning ugly every day for 3 points! Onwards and upwards. 5 more cup finals; think we'll get 3 wins and 2 draws and go up automatically myself. UTV and KTF

  9. Brilliant post. My biggest fear isn’t that we don’t make it… it’s that people don’t understand what’s happened this season, that football can be a cruel mistress, and turn against the best thing that’s happened to us for years! Whatever happens, the club, owners, management team, Pruhcess, maxtrix and the vast vast VAST majority of fans have been amazing this year. It’s a foundation we can SUSTAINABLY build on! UTV

  10. One of the real big pluses has been the form of Proctor and Wilson since they returned from injury, arguably both have been better on return especially Wilson. First ca 30 mins yesterday both were nigh on unplayable although Wilson did fade a tad later on. When they went out injured I was concerned they'd struggle to get back to peak fitness and effectiveness but both have been superb. If both stay in this rich vein of form then a top 3 finish is highly likely.

  11. I love that last sentence and like you, wish for a a nerve-free relatively easy win. However, having supported PV for almost 70 years (that's why I have no hair!) I suspect you, me and all PV followers are going to have our usual rollercoaster ride for these last 5 matches. Fasten your seat belts, it may be nerve-wracking but it ain't gonna be boring!

  12. After yesterday I've no nails left . Primed for another 90 minutes of torture plus the mandatory double figures of injury time . We've just got to do the boring cliché and take each game as it comes. Difficult fixture but so was Salford. Any chance of a comfortable 2-0 routine win, my nerves are shot.

  13. Normally a point away from home is a good result, but we really need 3 from this to give us some breathing space for the tough Bristol and Exeter games, and Newport won’t be easy either.

  14. Vale played some sublime attacking stuff up to it being 3-2, and were exposed to the long ball as a consequence, and some of our defending was atrocious. From then on we tried to throw a blanket over the game, sitting deeper. It succeeded. Just. First goal was brilliant play from both Connor Hall, and Proctor, who was super alert, and super cool. Edmundson's cross was sublime for the second. Walker's goal was down to the coaching staff. In some ways a brilliant performance, and in others, awful. I guess that's what happens when you push and take risks... Super entertainment. I think Vale are playing at the limits. Crosby is pushing them hard and getting them to play at their peak. Mistakes will happen. It's brilliant, quite high risk management.

  15. A visit to solid mid-table Hartlepool in their first season back in the FL. Their last 5 games are a win at Newport, draws with Mansfield and FGR last Saturday, and defeats by the Cobblers and Salford, so the deckchairs are not yet out. Worrall is an injury worry but our bench is strong. Vale will have to show their worth in the promotion race to come back to Burslem with 3 points, to keep our 3rd place margin, and so a Happy Easter for SVA, ready for the Gas. 6 pointers: Gas v Salford, Mansfield v Sutton. Also Cobblers could come a cropper at Oldham. Darrell Clarke`s Black and White Army

  16. Bang on. Someone’s going to drop points along the way, it could easily be them as well as us, but they haven’t got that easy a run in. However if we also keep winning then it’s in our hands and we go up automatically.

  17. Not sure about Mansfield having an easier run in: Sutton (H) - Sutton need points for playoff push Carlisle (A) - Carlisle have beaten Northampton and Bristol Rovers in recent weeks, got a point against Tranmere and nearly got one against Exeter Crawley (H) - looks the easiest of their fixtures Stevenage (H) - we saw yesterday how a side fighting for their lives can make a game very tough Salford (A) - Salford likely to need points for playoffs Foresr Green (H) - possible that FGR might need something for the title. Even if they don’t they’ve been a tough side to beat all season so it would be hoped they won’t just down tools If they win 5 or all 6 you would have to take your hat off to them. Equally the only thing the lads can control is our own results - as we did yesterday we just need to find the way to win our own games.

  18. I thought AC took positive action by bringing Hussy on for Edmondson. At the time their No.7 was causing all sorts of trouble down our left. As soon as Hussy came on the same player barely got a cross in. When they put Piergianni up front though it did cause us issues as it did in the reverse fixture. I’m glad to see the back of Oldham as they’ve caused us more problems than most teams including FGR!!!

  19. What teams have to play for may well change over the coming days/weeks. By the time we play Newport they could have cemented a playoff place but not be able to reach the automatics, or they could be out of playoff contention. Similar for Exeter, who may have secured promotion before the last game. For now things are so tight that the next game is always the biggest game of the season. 5 more cup finals to go.

  20. We were our own worst enemies in the first half but fair play to Oldham who took advantage of our weakness to defend at the far post.Wonderful winning goal from Walker and JP's game management with the ball boys. Getting the three points is all that matters.

  21. If they play like they did against us then they have every chance of doing that I would hope they stay up for their fans sake, despite the problems at the club. It would be shocking for them as founder members of the Premier League in the 90s

  25. The more Vale & Mansfield go toe to toe could easily bring Exeter into the mix. Could be a winner takes all in the final game.

  27. I had Benning MOTM too, although his performance tailed off when he swapped wings

  28. Open game, good following from Oldham and I feel we had the rub of the green with the ref who on another day might have sent off Garrity. Benning was my man of the match and the result was payback for Boundry Park. Rest up and off to Hartlepool.

  29. Another great win. We were unbelievable first 15 minutes. Different league to Oldham, then it got squeaky! I genuinely believe had we had a bit of luck with injuries we'd be going up as Champions. That rough period after Xmas has probably cost us the title, especially when you look at our form since Proc & Wilson came back in. Still all to play for & I still think we can bag 2nd place. We were close today but for a last minute Exeter winner! For what its worth I think 3 wins see us up automatically especially with our superior goal difference. I think we can afford to lose 1, not that I want this to happen. Its gonna be tight! I think we now have a fair few players running on empty, but the same will be the case for other teams after a long season. It will come down to grit & determination to get over the line & I think we've got it, in buckets. Hartlepool - They aren't in the mix to go up or down but they have a great home record. Will be tough. Bristol Easter Monday is our biggest game since Northampton 12/13. Another real tough game where they will be backed by a full Hamil. Walsall - any other team in the league in their position I'd fancy us. But it's Walsall, they would love to ruin the party. Newport- Sky TV. Christ. Exeter away last day - Really wouldn't fancy going there needing something on the last day, although we're more than capable. It's now between the current Top 4 for me for the 3 places. FG are couple wins away, Exeter ourselves & Mansfield... anybodys game I think. Rest up boys, Easter is going to be MENTAL.

  31. For some reason, this morning I recalled the 3-2 home win v Oldham towards the end of the 96/97 play-off attempt season in the Championship (as it is now) - think Tony Naylor scored 2 absolute wonder goals. Turns out it was 25 years ago this weekend......#RetroDay ! 😀 Never thought that today would produce the same scoreline! (......hopefully that's where history stops repeating itself as we didn't win again, including losing at the Shitoria Ground and then missed out on the play-offs!)

  32. A MASSIVE MASSIVE shout out to Ryan Edmondson. A 30 min sub appearance where he played out of position, set up a goal, worked his canastas off, didn’t moan, and didn’t grumble when he was subbed to allow Hussey to come on. Huge thanks and a great attitude!

  33. I too would like them to stay up but their cheating, diving, horrid tactics of crowding the ref for every time they fell to the floor was disgraceful.

  40. Thought we played really well for the first half today. Uncharacteristically poor defensively though. Second half we got the winner then let them come at us. Our midfield got overrun today in my opinion. That said, we stood up well, and nicked the 3 points, which was payback for the 3 they pinched off us at their place. Thought Proctor Wilson Walker and Benning were the stars of the first half, whilst in the second it was Smith and Martin. That said, Smith was absolutely woeful again on the ball today, worst I've ever seen him. Special shout out to Edmondson. What a cross that was for our second. Reminded me of how Guppy used to swing it in at pace and low. For a striker to do a job at RWB when needed shows just how together and willing this squad is

  41. This is what it's like when you're at the sharp end of the season with something to play for. It's so long since we've had experience of it we've forgotten what it's like. Let's just experience the ride. You never know, we might just enjoy it.

  42. Can I please add now. Might come across as negative so I apologise in advance. What this squad, club , staff have achieved is fantastic. The trials and tribulations we have endured is incredible. If we do come up short (I did apologise for being negative, ) then we have still achieved beyond belief As someone who likes a dabble I'd now be in the Seychelles in June had Proctor and Wilson been fit all season. Whatever happens now I'm proud as punch , an unbelievable coming together by the club and fans .

  43. Just seen the Garrity challenge clip on Oldham forum, barely a booking, ridiculous shout for red. Now then, Stone was definitely out of his area for his booking and that was a lucky one. If oldham do go down, (I think they’re too good) at least they’ll go down swinging, I’d love Stevenage to go instead. could have done wi5hout Exeter’s late winner as dropping points there would have brought them into the third place equation. These so called easy games are anything but. I’m hoping we can squeeze another couple of wins out of Monkey Hangers and Smallsall having had a really good rest this week and some anabolic steroids for Wozzer. Then we’ll be going into the final three with the potential to get away with draws as it means teams near us dropping points as well.

  44. No doubt that the backroom team will analyse the nuts off the conceded goals and make sure that those mistakes are irradiated for the next match. Always good to be able to this with three points under the belt, meaning no great harm done.

  45. Far too much drama, far too much excitement for my blood pressure, what a fantastic and well battled for result. Brad Walker has been threatening a goal like that all season. Vale are finding ways to win games and the momentum is with us.

  46. The easiest way is continue with the Darrell Clarke’s black n white army, then instead of PVFC sing Andy Crosby, spelt out An d cros b, as in the PVFC version.

  47. Some folk seem this will be 3-1, 3-0, 4-1, 4-0 etc. I’ll be ecstatic with a 1-0 win as I think this will be a very hard game. Oldham have their talisman back - Piergianni - and he always has a good game against us. They lost 6 straight games without him which illustrates his importance to their defence. They also have a player in Keillor-Dunn who’s scored more goals this season than any Vale player. This will be tough and we will need to be bang at it to take the three points. I just hope the players aren’t as complacent as some of our fans. UTV.

  48. Absolutely. There is now an honest camaraderie evident throughout the whole Club and it is showing in the squad performances. We can now believe that anyone can step in and do a job. From The Management, players and fans there is a belief that this is a time to be a Vale fan. As has been said previously, if we don't make it this season(God forbid!) then we surely are on the right track in every single aspect of the Club to see Vale rise from the ashes and almost certain death to a future of optimism and success. Well done to everyone who have Vale in their hearts, this has been a crazy but very pleasing one so now let's get out there and cement our promotion place. VTID.

  50. My take for what it's worth. And I can actually make either date. The money for Vale is lovely of course and can't be turned down. But I'm sick of Sky dictating to fans up and down the country. We've seen 12-30 Saturday games such as Southampton v Newcastle and Bournemouth v Middlesbrough. Utter contempt for the fans who have to get up at 3-30 am. The last Saturday home game for me ( being selfish here ) means a good few after match beers with my friends whether we are promoted, 14th or relegated. That's now gone as I'm in work at 6-00 on the Tuesday. I believe a contingent of North London valiants have already booked trains for the Saturday and I doubt its a huge number but Newport will have fans who have made arrangements. I remember the other year we'd booked trains to Euston for Millwall away only for it to be moved to Sunday as Sky showed Millwall autoglass game on the Thursday. I couldn't make the Sunday. Of course it will suit plenty as the posts prove but I think it's poor fayre this late in the day.
