  1. Today I spent sometime watching Vale train. Whilst there JR was walking by and having exchanged pleasantries, he stopped and spoke to me about his time as our manager for about 20 minutes. What a true gent and I’d like to thank him for not only taking the time and trouble to talk to me, but it isn’t everyday I get to meet and speak to someone of his stature. I’d just like to say thank you, to him.

  2. They could do a really nice version of Port Vale Tales just with people recounting their personal encounters with JR. I honestly love the man more than the majority of my own relatives.

  3. I got married in June 99 and my mother in law/father in law surprised me by inviting Rudgie and his wife Del to the reception as they knew he was a hero/legend to me and even though they had a family event on the same day they both well and truly turned up,have to be honest there was a tear in my eye when he walked in and i dropped to my knees(no nowt rude) and bowed down in front of him in my hired suit 🙂 he was so nice, bought drinks, chatted to guests and myself(telling me how he wanted to nurture Earle to take over from him if he hadn't been sacked),when it was time for him to go he couldn't apologise enough and he wanted to stay but Del was dragging him away..... RUDGIE is and always will be a LEGEND and Vale...he signed my guest by putting, keep supporting OUR team, forever black and white John and Del Rudge Its a memory that will live with me forever and probably even more than the wedding itself 😉

  4. Every port vale fan should get down on their knees and thank the Lord for John Rudge. i think I’ve quoted that correctly.

  5. Jimbo can fully understand you being upset, you were sold down the river, can understand why you and FUA and co are upset. Don’t listen to the Tory right wing spin this is all down to one thing, BREXIT.

  6. I wouldn’t have blamed you for anything on your knees mate. My lad, now 34, had a kids party when he was about 9 or 10 down Vale and Rudgie just walked in and started talking to all the kids. Made their day

  7. What a great supporter you are booing your own players.

  8. The mins silence on rememberence day.or when one of our fans has died is to show respect. The taking a knee is political. All lives mater so why qualify it with black... Taking the knee is a protest designed to draw attention to the fact the black lives are regularly not treated as being equal to some other lives. But you knew this.

  9. I surport our team on the field. During and after the game...but not when they take the knee before the game. Why dont they do it on the car park or in the dressing room.why in the faces of their surporters who just want to watch them play footie. Not see a political statement... EDIT Taking the Knee thread now open in the Political section

  10. He was extremely humble and stated it was the fans that made it so good and that he was lucky, I told him that you make your own luck in life. He also told me that Paul Kerr threw a boot at him in the dressing room at half time because he’d subbed him. He sold players that he’d purchased for in excess of £3m profit, which is a lot today never mind all those years ago. I never referred to him as John and called him Mr Rudge. He told Robin VDL was banned from football in Holland for four month having broken someone’s leg, so he brought him to Vale as he wasn’t banned in England. Looking back I was like a star struck kid, who couldn’t believe I was actually there with JR. This man took us to the brink of the Championship play offs and would have made it if we hadn’t lost the last four games. It was the press who informed him that Brian Horton was replacing him on the Monday having just signed Marcus Bent the previous Thursday. WTB when confronted about the rumour denied it and later offered him a director of football position. When John McGrath sadly passed away on Christmas Day, Mrs McGrath phoned JR and asked him if he would do a ready by at the funeral, told me he had no sleep that night as he wanted to get everything right. I don’t think I’ve broken any confidences, by telling you this. Some of you will know it already but I didn’t. Genius

  13. It's all about a working class man who's life was judged as irrelevant by an irresponsible policeman as he slowly killed another human. Surely taking a knee for that is worthy of respect.

  15. If you don't want to applaud it, no-one is making you. Just STFU and stop dragging our club through the mud and booing the players.

  17. You obviously didn't watch BBC news earlier today when the head of a haulage firm in Norfolk was asked, or told rather, that the driver shortage was caused by brexit. 'No it wasn't' she insisted, 'surely it was' said the reporter. 'No it wasn't, it's due to covid, unsociable hours, poor working conditions and low pay.' Another classic unbiased report from the BBC.

  18. Surely it can’t be down to Brexit this must be fake news, what do the Vote Leavers think, oh sorry forgot they are hiding away. Grant Shapps blames the HGV situation on COVID, another lie alongside the many others, remember, 350million, Oven ready, Big Trade deals and many many more.

  19. Makes me laugh; fella down the row from me makes a right show of himself, standing up, red-faced, hurling boos at the players. Five minutes later he was there belting SUPA SUPA DAVE SUPA SUPA DAVE SUPA DAVEY WORRALL. Thankfully, the booing is surprisingly low; its a loud noise but not that many bother with it. The number of people applauding/doing nothing is well in excess of those booing Port Vale players.

  20. Taking the knee is a personal choice. They can do it. But not on the Vales pitch as that means involving the club.i booed them last game and will carry on booing them. For doing it on the pitch. If they did it outside the main entrance it would not bother me. Another question do they all agree or do they only kneel because the others do?

  22. Im not generally in favour of booing players although I suppose it's the only way to show dissatisfaction in the moment. As for booing when taking the knee before kick off I see that as disapproving of the action not necessarily the team, and although I wouldn't do it myself people are allowed to protest legally. For every action there is a reaction etc.

  23. Calling someone braindead who boos his own team before kick off because he doesn't agree with standing against racism isn't a personal insult. Its a fact. Censor those that want to support their team over a guy who boos our team and is proud of it. Only at OVF!

  28. Scunthorpe Preview! A positive week at Vale, but we talk through a few news stories from the wider football world that could possibly affect Vale in the future! Then on to Scunny, another unhappy hunting ground for Vale, but it's not been a great start to the season for 'The Iron' and Vale will be looking to take advantage. All 3 of us predict a win, but by how many, and which recent thorn in our side could cause trouble again? Available on Apple, Google and Spotify podcasts. And here! https://aleandthevale.podbean.com

  29. Great job from byline tv. Shame that the right wing bbc dont show the real truths about brexit. They edit the brexit negatives out the same as the lady who was interviewed on the fish markets too.

  31. You seem to have a strange definition of facts. If the best argument you can raise against someone doing something you don't agree with is hurling abuse you have already lost the argument. Free speech isn't about allowing the people you agree with to voice your opinion, it's more about allowing people you dont agree with to voice theirs.

  39. But brexit is the thing which is currently blocking the vacancies being filled. Had brexit not been a thing then the government wouldn't need to remove the barriers of entry and the road haulage association wouldn't have to ask them to. I agree he needs to be much tougher on them. Labour have been poor at getting accross their vision and need someone who really sticks up for the working class. Andy Burnham has done a great job in Manchester for example. I'm not sure changing the party leadership rules will help either.

  40. People like Dawn Butler are the reason Labour have zero chance of winning an election. The ones with no principles, no substance, everything is racist, everything is a lie unless when she lies, in which case it's true, and if you don't agree than you are a racist liar 🤣 Let her keep going. There's a reason that a tory Government can lock us in our own homes, cancel football, close pubs, raise taxes, send covid patients back into care homes, oversee huge spikes in gas prices, try and enforce vaccine mandates and domestic passports, and labour still can't get above them in the polls. It's almost funny really. They only have to be 0.1 point better than labour. And that's a real low bar.

  41. Went down this morning to pick up tickets for Sat to be abruptly told ‘sold out won’t be getting anymore’ ! Wasted journey , no information about this anywhere to my knowledge. Apparently we had 400 tickets and that was it . For info anybody wishing not to have to pay the increased price on the day if you ring Scunthorpe ticket office you can book and pay for at the lower price and pick up there .
