  1. You can’t be for real? He’s been in the role now for 6 months. In that period he’s appointed Clarke; appointed Crosby; helped bridge the gap between the academy and the first team by appointing Rooney; made plans for a new training ground; he’s been a part of the overhaul of a new squad (releasing 15 and signing 12); and there is probably a hell of a lot behind the scenes which we just simply don’t see. Give the bloke time to implement his ideas, we’ve not played a competitive game in over two months.

  2. Can we please remind ourselves that this lad is 17 and isn't even close to being considered for a professional contract? He did well in a very poor U18 side last year and scored against two semi-professional sides in training matches. Most players aren't loaned till they reach 18-20. U18 loans are pretty rare. Players playing any role at EFL level U18 are even rarer, unless they're top talents like Bellingham or Baah He is absolutely miles off being a contributor for the first-team. It'll be much better for him to go and play regular football with a clear development pathway at Vale for when he returns, as opposed to wasting a bench spot on a player who isn't ready and depriving him of competitive minutes. Training with good players can only take you so far, unless you're a truly outstanding talent at the top level of academy football - lower league players usually need some proper football.

  3. He will get a pro contract for sure. If you deprive him of...or delay... the opportunity to show how good he is you have to hope he does it somewhere else, lower down the Leagues, where there will be a lesser quality opposition, possibly giving a false impression of how he does. He'd stay here if it were up to me - I respect that you feel different.

  4. Of the players we've got now, this would be my team for Northampton.

  5. And it's not about having to rely on a youngster - it's about giving him the chance to show what he can do! Why send him out on loan? I can understand Chelsea / Arsenal hoovering up 50+ youngsters, then sending them out on loan otherwise they wouldn't get any game minutes at all - but the Vale? He's more likely to be up against bruisers in lower League than making a sub appearance with us, or playing in one of the Cup competitions. Being around the first team squad must be better in our League than one or two lower? International teams have included youngsters who had no chance of playing - just for the experience of mixing with the seniors and being involved in training and tactics. There's plenty of room on the subs bench...and we can't use them all, but he would give us an option - a nuisance option.

  9. I think the majority of this country are worried about the direction this idiot is taking us. Most media outlets now display the worrying rises in cases and deaths etc. It is extremely worrying and will detiorate further after tomorrow, he will eventually after do his customary u turn, and lock us down again. I do wishJohnson listened to the Scientists and Medic cause they are pretty well all saying the same thing, except that is your news outlet on Radio Gaga.

  10. Just to add further context. When 'cases' were previously this high in December there was a weekly average of 650+ deaths per day. The latest average is around 40, 1/16 of the figure. Hospital admission around 1/5 of the December figure. It isn't even newsworthy. Meanwhile 3,200 people died from cancer in the last week. An absolute scandal. It's over guys, face it.

  11. Think Martin will be the main man at the back this season, can’t see him not starting first game personally
    1 point
  12. Well, personally I think the middle of the park is our strongest area now and we should look to set the formation around Conlon, Pett and Walker. I'd like to see a wing-back 5-3-2 formation, or it can be seen as a 3-5-2. Worrall and Benning as the wing-backs. The three players above in the middle of the park. Then a back three from Smith, Legge, Martin, Johnson, Cass and Gibbons etc. I think we looked a bit slow there yesterday with who started so I hope Johnson and Cass have a bit of pace. I think it will be Smith, Martin and Johnson who start. Lucas Worrall Smith Martin Johnson Benning Walker Pett Conlon Rodney Wilson On paper that 11 looks far stronger than what we could put out last season, in my opinion.

  13. Regardless of the performance yesterday, anyone that doesn't think that the likes of Martin, Belling, Walker, Pett and Wilson aren't a big upgrade on Brisley, Fitzpatrick, Joyce, Oyeleke, and Cullen need their heads examining. We've made some excellent signings. Not all of them will be a resounding success of course. But our best business of the summer could well be keeping Conlon and Worrall.

  14. Having been up early I fell asleep second half which I think says it all about how arsed I am about the result of that game. Anyone unironically losing the plot after losing a pre-season friendly in outrageous summer heat to a championship side when the Vale team was made up of unfamiliar players playing an unfamiliar formation including a centre mid out of his comfort zone at RB needs help.

  15. Not sure what some people were expecting in that heat. Once Forest took the lead we were chasing shadows for a lot of the time and it just became too much. We played quite well first half I thought. If I had a couple of criticisms I’d say we were a bit wasteful with the ball and how we conceded the 2 goals was fairly poor, although the first was a good strike. Other than that there were positives, until we ran out of gas.

  16. I'd have hated play in that heat today . Didn't watch it apart the last 5 mins so cannot judge and to be honest the higher level team who keeps the ball is always going be more at ease in hot weather than the plucky we will play for long throws team and try nick a goal team . 2-0 after 26 mins on a hiding to nothing and that was the case .

  17. I'm almost looking forward to us losing on Day 1. Be absolute turmoil on here. Proper headloss in all quarters. Grown men making a right show of themselves. Will crack open a beer and enjoy.

  18. You cant just throw 11 players on a pitch that have barely played together and expect us to look like a solid outfit its going to take time, i would imagine we will have a mix of results and performances at the start of the season some good and bad, but it will be simply them working out eachothers game. Look at bolton they made a large amount of signings last year and started the league terribly then they came good. We all need a bit of patience at the start of the season because it will take time. It might not take as long as bolton did to get going but i think we might have a slow start to the season, if we dont great. But lets not lose our heads if we lose a couple in our first few games

  27. It just goes to show if you're good enough you're old enough. Rarely do we see young talent emerge with any great immediacy. If you've been a follower of any football club for any length of time, we all know it can sometimes happen, so in that sense, why not Eden Bailey? What has happened with Clarke is quite refreshing, he would appear to be giving everyone a chance, including youth. If pre season isn't about optimism for fans then I don't know when is. I read earlier in the thread where someone said that we would be silly to expect top three, well I'll go one dafter- CHAMPIONS of league two with all sorts of records being broken. And god forbid if we're not, however I won't be any more disappointed than those who don't believe we can do it now. There's nowt wrong with a bit of belief, it's served winners well through the ages.

  28. My impression of him was he looked physically strong enough to cope, something which you can’t always say about these younger players. No point having lots of skill if you’re constantly pushed off the ball. Ok so this was against non league opponents but we’ve got 2 friendlies against decent opposition coming up, so, assuming he plays more than just a bit part, we should see how he fairs against better players than those he faced at Kidsgrove and ‘Castle. No disrespect to those players intended.

Let's add in the many tens of billions for many thousands of staff recruited to try and prepare for Brexit and then implement it afterwards. Oh, and while we're at it, let's leave one of the largest trading areas in the world, 21 miles from our shores, where we could trade for free. You couldn't make it up.

  43. That's clearly tests per million at a given time. Now find me the statistics that show how many tests per day we are currently conducting compared to the rest of Europe. We shouldn't stop cancer screening because we're not screening people who have nothing wrong with them. From the mouths of the Fauci 'asymptomatic transmission is not a driver of pandemics '. The WHO said similar. If you remove all the asymptomatic cases from the total, I.e. those picked up by this ridiculous testing twice a week going on in schools and also the people tested every 3 days in hospital then the numbers come down to something not even newsworthy. People who do not have symptoms are not going to be spreading this like wildfire. It's the very reason people like you continue to take things out of proportion.
