  1. Jesus christ i come on here to read about potential signings and come off feeling depressed. Why is there so much negativity like seriously. We havent seen any of these players kick a ball yet and a lot of people saying not impressed by them. Have a day off were you impressed when we signed tom conlon, no. Were you impressed when we signed worral, no, were you impressed when we signed pope, no. When was the last time you were impressed. These players are in league two for a reason so they are always going to be a bit of a gamble. The pedigree of the players we have signed i think is better than the past few seasons. We are clearly trying to build something this season why not actually support the team rather than constantly writing them off. There was so much negativity last season and rightly so. But why dont we all go into this new season with a bit of positivity and get behind the boys until proven otherwise. Support the team dont belittle and criticise at every single thing we do

  2. Just got back from Sunday lunch, what a great day, tour of the ground with my kids and grandkids. As we were on the way out was told a lady wanted words with me,_ Carol giving me a birthday card and gift, even the lardie son in law was impressed.

  3. Which team were you watching between November 2020 and February 2021? It was the older more experienced players that got us into the mess we were in. Legge, for instance was personally responsible for at least five goals conceded with penalties given away or a distinct lack of pace. Joyce went off the boil, look at his sending off against Tranmere or his abysmal performance against Kings Lynn. Any shot at Brown from over 20 yards and I was holding my breath. If Pope deserves respect, then build another statue. Nothing is forever. It makes me laugh how some on here are offended by Clarke's kiddums, psychology, management or whatever you want to call it, that he used to string an 8 game unbeaten run together. If some of those players thought they were nailed on for a new contract would they have performed as well? Clarke did whatever he had to do, to get players to perform for Port Vale and I can only applaud that. If he hadn't I'd be looking forward to an away day at Chesterfield.

  6. Fake News. Phil Smith has seen him on telly and wasn’t impressed. This must be another Ryan Johnson!

  7. I think that some of the errors that you mention were down to a number of factors. The players were having to play a lot of games (we had played more games than the majority of clubs who had breaks due to covid for the opposition or themselves). Scunthorpe if my memory serves me correctly is the only game that we had postponed before christmas. The players were under more pressure as we had no one holding the ball up up top and next to no attacking threat from our full backs which is key to Askey's formation. Legge had a fit at some point which also seemed to affect him. He also had very little assistance from Mills. Confidence is massive in football and for a lot of last season our players were at rock bottom. We lost lots of leads and unlike the season before where we both lost games and turned them in our favour late on, last season late goals only ever seemed to go against us. Even when we finally scored one again at Scunthope it got wrongly disallowed. Pope I think has a lot to answer for. His ban for something he had had numerous warnings about and his unwillingness to accept that he was wrong meant that he wasn't available or fit up until the point he broke his arm. There are signs to be optimistic about the squad we are building and there are also signs to be a little concerned. We will only know the answer when it gets to October/November time. For those having a go at people for being a bit negative there were plenty on here being much more negative towards the end of last year through until March. A lot of those throwing stones live in glass houses. Lets see how we get on this season and hope for the best. UTV

  8. Personally, I’d be making sure Worrall is starting - it’s a must.

  9. To be honest, I don't think it was the plan. Once the news broke in Hartlepool, I think they felt forced into announcing it. Hence why it was kinda rushed, with no teasers, just an announcement out of the blue. The story wasn't even on the website until a few hours later, which all makes me believe it was all planned for tomorrow, but quickly had to be moved to today 🙂

  10. Do you ever have anything positive to say? I know for a fact we beat quite a few EFL clubs for his signature. Hartlepool fans are very complimentary about Johnson, so I’ll take their word alongside Clarke and Flitcroft’s judgement.

  12. Legge has and hopefully will continue to be a terrific ambassador for the club and for epilepsy. Not having a vaccine is fine but encouraging lies on vaccacines is concerning. I hope the club have a quite word for him. We didn’t need another Tom Pope incident

  13. Clarke was 100% right on his retained list, with maybe the exception of Montano. Pope who had served the club well has now lost all of his pace, he just cannot run, there's nothing crueler than the passage of time and unfortunately Tom's time was up. Brisley was dependable but lacked class and I believe there is younger and better out there. Joyce, a good league 2 footballer was losing his edge, it was time for him to go. Brown, who probably kept us in league football really was susceptible from long range and as good as was with close range reaction saves, he's not the complete article. It's hard to say goodbye to some of these players but there most definitely can be no sentiment in football. A new broom sweeps clean and until Clarke does something to shatter my faith in his judgement then he has my full support. He has decent track record so I can easily see why Carol has appointed him. It's as if some people on here are willing him to fail, which is absurd.

  14. Oh dear!!We are starting before the bloody season has begun 🤔Legge has been amazing for Vale and the community. We are all entitled to an opinion on covid.

  15. You can’t go into a season with one left back and one right back. We need two out and out right backs and two out and out left backs.

  16. So, how is the squad shaping up, who have we replaced, what are we still missing? GK: Covolan (Brown); Stone (Visser & Scott) LB: LWB (Monty); Jones (Fitzpatrick) CB: Smith; Legge; Martin (Brisley); Johnson (Crookes) RB: Gibbo; RB2 (Mills) DM: Walker (Joyce); DM2 CM: Conlon; Taylor (signed Jan to replace Whitehead, having been original 1st choice to recruit); Garrity (Burgess); CM4 (Manny) Wingers: Worrall; Amoo; Hurst; W4 (McKirdy) FW: Rodney; Wilson (Cullen); FW3 (Pope & Guthrie); FW4/Theo I appreciate some of those equivalences can be disputed/discussed, but the way I see it most of those changes are good upgrades, based on last season's performances (e.g. Brown was a better signing at the time than Covolan now, but Brown 2021 is not the same animal). For me, the three key remaining holes in the first 18 are the replacements for Monty and Manny, and a 3rd striker, with the other positions (RB cover, DM cover, 4th winger and 4th striker if Theo moves on) possibly for younger lads, chancers and loans to fill (unless we can get our hands on a good LW for a decent wage). And it's still not the end of June. UTV!

  18. From Wiki: "Garrity is an attacking box-to-box midfielder with good energy and fitness levels.[30] He has a strong aerial presence, scoring many of his goals from headers." The heading thing is a pretty unusual trait for a midfielder. Think we'll be up there in the distance covered charts next season

  19. This looks like another astute signing by the Matrix - a 6' 2" left footed, young up and coming centre back who's been on the radar of bigger clubs for a long time. Well done, DF and DC, and welcome to the Land of the Giants, Ryan. Given DC's propensity to change formation at will, we're sure to be playing 532 at some point but I don't believe that will be his starting point. In his last post-match interview he made perfectly clear he was only playing 532 because he had no option with the players we had, so I expect a change to four at the back, at least to begin. That would then place Walker in his preferred position as a holding, defensive midfielder and allow him to play Worrall to his greatest advantage further up the pitch. Someone has got to be laying it on to Rodney and Wilson up front! To my mind, that still leaves us with two full-backs to find, two midfielders including a second defensive mid (DC was moaning a fair bit last season about only having one) and a winger, and one more striker at least. We might even go for a fourth young, loan striker, but we'll see. Anyroad, all shaping up rather nicely if you ask me. One thing's for sure, DC's head will be on the chopping block if all this goes pear-shaped but I don't expect it. The players too now have every incentive to take the league by storm though we will need to exercise something most of us are not very good at - patience.

  30. Another criteria might be to sign players who are on an upward trajectory in their careers. Players who have more desire, fight and a hunger to win? Also, who are younger and fitter and physically strong. Looking at last season it didn’t seem to take a lot to get into a play off position. Let’s face it - we weren’t that far away after losing god knows how many.

  33. It is the United Kingdom. Not all Scottish and Welsh people want England to lose. I root for all the "UK countries" and Ireland when they play anyone else but England. The Welsh (and Scottish) National Anthems are just fantastic.

  34. Well it seems DC and co have done there homework a left footed centre, a lot to prove but had plenty of good experience. To me seems like a very good and positive signing.

  35. I think he’ll mix it up, but there is a strong possibility he’ll start the season with a back three. Maybe something like this. Covalan Smith Martin Johnson Worrall Garrity Walker Conlon Jones/Mal B? Rodney Wilson

  37. I think he will go with three centre half’s this season. Smith Martin and Johnson. Legge will be the back up cover. Two decent wing backs and another quality wide man and forward and we will be in decent shape hopefully.

  39. Am bemused by this signing to be honest. Am wondering whether DC sees him as one to develop? Having seen a fair bit of Hartlepool on TV last season he didn't impress me one iota: in fact few Hartlepool players did apart from Oates. In the games I saw, Johnson was ponderous, easily and often pulled out of position, and prone to clumsy cautionable challenges in key positions, due to his positioning! That said, welcome Ryan and I hope you have a great career at Vale.

  41. It’s a difficult one, Leon is entitled to his views and many share that view. Even a German study is questioning if it’s a good idea based on deaths from it to deaths saved from it. I know people who are anti vaccine or not comfortable with it as it has come out really quickly and is technically still in trials for 2 more years. It’s down to individuals to make their own judgement on it, I’ve personally had both but probably wouldn’t give my kids it at this stage until fully trialled if offered to their age group. Most are making the call to be jabbed and hopefully it will turn this pandemic into nothing more than flu (as it seems with the deaths/hospitalisations v cases at the moment here).

  42. I have noticed Leon Legge has clicked the ‘like’ button on Twitter a lot in relation to anti vaccination which is vey disappointing. I am sure a lot of younger fans would see him normally as an ideal role model but his views on COVID are very concerning.

  44. Aaron Collins 16 goals in 83 games for Forest Green and Pope 13 goals in 60 games during the last 2 seasons. I know Collins is only 26 but could you imagine if he joined us, the reaction of some people on here.

  45. Really good Sunday lunch, not the absolute best I've ever had, but certainly a fair cut above your average pub grub and plenty of it; can't fault it, especially for the price. 👍 What made it special though was the setting, (so good to be back at VP!), the service, the front of house, all so friendly, just top drawer stuff, and to cap it off a good chat with Carol & Kevin. Must have been chatting to each of them for a good 10 minutes, Carol obviously more of a natural at this sort of thing, but Kev is such a sound bloke too, lovely to have a natter to both of them. Our club is in such good hands 👏 Happy Fathers' Day to all the dads out there, hope you're having as good a day as may n mar owd mon 🤍💛🖤👍
