  1. £10,000 is better than £0 as the only reason he'd be going now is the new regime have clearly decided with his injury history he's too risky to be given another deal in the summer. Disappointing in the sense of what could have been.

  2. I’ll be incredibly disappointed if this is true. He’s our best midfielder imo and definitely one of the better ones in the league.

  3. Another thing about Manny is that I always got the feeling that fans rated him a bit more than successive managers did. Not that he's a bad player, far from it, but that he couldn't quite do some of the dirtier centre midfield work as well as some people thought he could. Particularly some of the off the ball stuff and as part of a two. You would imagine we'll be looking for the right type of players to put around Conlon next season.

  4. Though Darrell is doing a great job, it’s not just him and him alone. He NEEDS a good assistant and I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again and I’ll probably post it again tomorrow, if we can’t get Crosby signed up we need someone in his style with his experience because that’s the only obvious catalyst I can see that has meshed so well with DCs general good work.

  5. If you think most of this season our defence has been shocking that makes a keeper hesitate and not sure what to do because his defence aren't giving him any confidence. Plus I think this year has affected players in different ways. This keeper single handedly kept us in the league not long ago with some unbelievable performances.

  7. Bet he’s tucking into a nice mixed grill to get his own back

  8. Anyone who saw the games prior to Crosby coming in could see DC had already turned us around and we were unlucky not to win games against Oldham, Salford etc

  9. It's really obvious that Walsall fans have made themselves look incredibly stupid with their comments back when we took Clarke. They were 6 points off the playoffs, and had only lost 6 times all season. Now they're 9 points off relegation and have only won 1 since. It was clear as day that Clarke was massively overachieving with that squad, which shows his managerial quality.

  10. Manny is a great player when he’s on the pitch, which sadly hasn’t been often enough. 45 starts in three season is a poor record of fitness and if over 21 squad size is to be reduced next season I’m not sure he’s a risk we can take.

  11. We really need to have players available for thirty plus games a season! We really have signed some sick notes over the years. Ultimately if you cannot play thirty plus games you are dragging the club down, this is becoming more important with the reduced size of squads. As said many times before if you look in the lower leagues the teams that get promoted have quite a number of players on thirty plus games. I would say that we are looking to be far more professional! If we want success then these decisions have to be made.

  12. I think Burgess will be gone as well

  13. This looks like the first moves of the new professional football set up. Offering Manny a contract would be a decision equivalent to signing someone from another club... unlike in the past (according to Flickers and DC) that would require a medical. My guess is that We have seen a medical evaluation of Manny and decided it would be a fail if he was coming in from outside... therefore do not sign. It feels like DC is an excellent man’s manager who is honest with his players. My guess is he has sat him down as soon as we were safe and said “Manny, I’m not offering you a deal. It’s nothing to do with you as a player or a person, it’s purely on medical grounds... however we can help let me know and we are happy to do so” Manny’s agent has then put the feelers out and Chesterfield has said they will take a gamble to push on for promotion. And we have accommodated the move... with £10k thrown in because we are not a soft touch anymore. One thing that makes me think this is that Manny would get access to the same medical reports and he hasn’t backed himself to get a guaranteed league club... he knows how good he is when fit, so the injury must be a bit part of the decision.

  14. Why, has the tea lady (/person!) been released too?!

  15. Really hope this isn’t true. Shown better fitness of late. 10k is nothing even if he is out of contract in the summer. If it’s true we must have some quality midfielders lined up!

  16. Maybe they are being fair to him by letting him go now while there is interest rather than releasing him at the end of the season.

  17. I am glad to be wrong about DC, who could be anything other than happy with the current performances.

  18. I love Manny dearly, and think he's our best player technically; the only one who could glide past players and split a defence with a pass. Our record with him starting is excellent. However: Flitcroft has made it very clear that availability is crucial. Manny hasn't been. He is, at times, erratic (see Saturday). He takes some games to get going, and previously that has been broken up by injuries. I hope his hamstring issues are behind him and, if he has gone, wish him the best. Seems like a decent bloke and if things had been different would be playing at a higher level right now.

  19. Personally I'd keep Alex Hurst; maybe with a view to a 6 month loan, or season loan at Conference level. Just turned 21 and I feel there is a good player there. Just needs to settle on a position as I'm not 100% convinced he is best on the wing. Reminds me a lot of Luke Hannat but I think he has more potential as he's 3 years younger than when Hannat signed. Two footed, strong, decent distribution and quick if not rapid. At BPA he played fullback, wing, as a 10, midfield and as a holding midfield player.

  20. Read their forum or twitter.. completely deluded. They refuse to acknowledge that Clarke's time at Walsall was in the context of a club in a spiral and run by a lunatic. Its like the Vale under Smurthwaite... players will find it hard to perform under those circumstances. They also love to tell you that his signings were rubbish but then go very quiet when its pointed out that he signed Adebayo, Jules, Holden, Osadebe and Clarke. The fact that they try and pretend they are not bothered about him joining us is genuinely hilarious.

  21. I think we've had plenty more major worries than Brown over the last few years. As a keeper, you simply cannot make a mistake without it costing big time. He's made a few this season, fair do's, and I'm 100% he'd be the first to say it. Remember the utter shambles we had for two years before he did start? His time may well be up, and it may be him that makes that call given his age and whatever he see's his future as. He owes us absolutely nowt though, as far as I'm concerned. Certainly in the top four keepers I've seen at Vale. Definitely worth another year if he'd accept it.

  22. On his day absolutely brilliant. Unfortunately injuries have ruined him, I'd be much more upset if Conlon was going.

  24. Wouldn't fuss me if Burgess went. Had a good first season but had been powder puff this year when I've seen him play. Whitehead doesn't even enter my head anymore as an option in the middle, hope he's paid up. Taylor time will tell but he's gone down hill fast since coming back.

  25. No use being best in the league if your out injured all the time. If we can only have 20 first team players next season our best midfielder needs to play 90%of them.

  26. Do you think Chesterfield would go for a buy one get one free offer?

  27. He's been a fantastic servant (minus the past 2 years) but I think its time he moved on. I'm sure he could get one last payday for a team with ambitions to get out of National League. I would be very happy to see him back with the youth team, its always good to have someone who has been there and done it. I just hope we don't have a clamour for him to become the manager like we have had for previous legends.

  28. Well if Manny has gone we are in for a huge clear out. Wouldn’t surprise me if some of those contracted are put up for sale too.

  31. I think every Vale fan would want a fit Manny in the side. The facts are though is that he cannot keep fit long enough to be worth another contract. A superb midfielder for L2 but not worth the risk of being unavailable for 30+ games

  35. Like I said. The first point was just a ridiculous straw man argument. By all means argue the journalistic merits of the YouTube clip and what facts it has unearthed. But when all respected media outlets are lying and only YouTube tells the truth, then you’re living in a different reality.

  39. The thing is they’ll want to keep this rivalry going when realistically we’ve got bigger fish to fry and we’re heading in different directions. Pity them, don’t argue with them.

  40. I can see quite a few players dropping out of the League(including Vale) if they think they can demand wages that they have been on.With alternative jobs at a premium they may be well advised to accept any reasonable offer.Paying thousands p/week to a League 2 player is not realistic.

  42. Case law says any job offer should have a reasonable time for consideration. 30 days isn't required and is unusual, its normally 48 hours to a week. Footballers give up a lot of rights that Fixed Term Contract employees have enjoyed in their contracts under 2002 Fixed Term Contract regulations. Football contracts can be withdrawn once the acceptance time has passed, as we did with Marshall and as a normal business would do after their acceptance period has past. Theoretically Vale could try reducing the contract consideration period (not do away with it completely), but the PFA could tie the club in knots, as generally a released player is going to be replaced by a new player as the job of rightback would still exist. That would still constitute unfair dismisal for any Fixed Term employee released at the end of their contract who had been at the club for 2 or more years.

  45. Definitely as back up. He’s better than Crookes. But we can’t have Legge and Brisley, and Legge has re-signed potentially. That doesn’t leave space for walk-into-first-team-captain-style-promotion-chasing centre half that we need to partner Smith.

  46. Unable to let go or loyal to an excellent goalkeeper? GK is the most important position on the pitch and isn't the place to penny-pinch. Today was another example of the difference he makes. A couple of bad months doesn't make a bad player (or manager).

  47. Was best keeper in the league last season.

  48. Have to say I'm surprised to see his shot stopping this season has been average. No real surprise to see he's more rooted to his line than 90% of keepers and that he's been a bit more exposed by his defenders than most others. Going by the stats I guess he might be released in the summer. How are his running times?
