  1. I think that the counter attacking way in which we play is probably more to do with the last few seasons performance rather than the way the manager wants to play. We are not in a mid table existence. Before last season we nearly went out of the league 2 years in a row. We have only had one season in mid table. The season before last we were awful and just avoided relegation for the 2nd season running having been relegated the season before. I think players look at how a club has done when signing. For Askeys first summer window we were a club with unproven owners who had had 3 bad seasons

  2. Teams don't just get promoted by being organised and keeping their shape, they have to have more than that. Most teams that go up have someone with a bit of x factor about them. Look at the likes of Charlie Kirk and Danny Mayor who helped clubs get promoted last year, I don't see them helping out their defeneders much. We as Vale fans seem to think as long as they are running around that will be ok, you need more to get out of the league. I am not saying McKirdy is the answer but he deserves a chance, for me he had one game at Stevenage and then bombed out of the squad, everyone was aw

  3. Before that we won 4 league games on the trot....... were you asking for Askey to get a contract extension then???? mmm

  4. Everyone slating mckirdy on here when they literally know nothing about him and seen him play 3 times. The boy has clearly got talent when hes on his game he can run at people and make things happen. Something we severly lack we are still early on in the season it might be he is adjusting to how we play and isnt ready to start at the moment. But people calling him dim and slating his personality when they literally no nothing about him is wrong. From speaking to one of the players he gets along with all the lads and doesnt cause any trouble so maybe hold back on making up your chinese whispers

  5. Spot on. The best of it is nobody on here knows what has gone on behind the scenes (or if anything actually has gone on). It’s something I’ve noticed with vale fans in general we seem to prefer this average hard working players rather than ones who stand out with a bit of flair. Whitfield was the same. Mckirdy has a great record in this division the idea that he’s jumped from club to club because of his attitude is just plane wrong and again because people seem to have something against him. Posters always say to give the player a chance however some seemingly haven’t with him and in

  6. Been in this league for a few years yes .. not with Askey. 2 straight wins and still banging the drum. A new manager would still have the same group of players to work with. What difference they would bring half way through a season I’m unsure. Does all appear to me a personal issue you have with the man.

  7. Far bigger budget than others? Have you not heard of the EFL wage cap??

  8. Didn't watch the game so unable to comment on it. My point reading the thread, has there been a more disliked player than McKirdy in the last decade apart from Martin Paterson ? Was reviled and not given a chance from the day he signed by many.

  9. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/police-in-hunt-for-football-gang-1343313.html A week or two after it was supposed to have happened, I remember nearly dying of hypothermia after a game trying to get hold of Everton tickets. Some bloke in the queue is supposed to have seen Belly coming out of the ground and told him 'I wouldn't mind being handcuffed to your radiator right now'.

  10. This team currently struggles. If what you say is correct about the Macc fans then maybe they had a few years under Askey where they struggled to break teams down that sat deep and hit teams on the break. This culminated with them winning the league. You don't win leagues if you can't break teams down who sit deep. He did that with a budget that was barely competitive in the league that they are in. I would say that our budget is more competitive in our league so in theory there should be slightly less gambles and he should be able to to replicate it in less time. Whether that hap

  11. If we're going to try untested youngsters, I'd much prefer that we give our own a chance first, such as RCG and Agho Agreed, I would prefer not to have any loan players, unless they are on trial before signing.

  12. You might only have seen him three times but he played for Crewe against us and chucked Whitfield over the advertising hoardings then played for Carlisle against us last year and did nothing but chuck himself to the ground every five minutes and whinge at the ref. He did well last night and showed what he is capable of when he puts his mind to it. I hope Askey is persuading him how to make a career in football and we see the best of him in coming months.

  13. I think Askey is steady when it comes to trying to get the best out of players as a 'Head Coach'. But as a 'manager' that signs his own players, his recruitment has been very poor and that worries me. As myself and others have mentioned, Brown (35), Pope (35), Joyce (34) and Legge (35) are still key figures and will need replacing soon. We can't have another summer of Ryan Lloyd/Callum Evans/Kieran Kennedy type signings or we will regress terribly.

  14. There seems to be a common mindset that Askey's teams can't break teams down that sit back and play on the counter. So I assume that when Macclesfield won the national league every team that they played must have gone all out attack.

  15. No one has beaten us 6-3 , we have only lost by 1 and been unlucky in most. Other then perhaps the Stevenage game that was an absolutely awful performance. That aside , men being sent off and late goals were the difference between what should have been a win and a couple of draws.

  17. Yes but he's only had one real club Carlisle, the rest were loans. Villa he clearly was never at that level despite being there from age 18 to 22 and never played a game for them. He has been a nomad so i think the ' every club ' comment is wide of the mark. 5] Manager David Artell revealed that: "He even said that if money was an issue then he would look to pay his own way. That made me smile. That shows a real desire and hunger to come out on loan and play some football. He has had a nomadic few years and Carlisle was his first proper deal. I completely understand the re

  18. Great footballer, arguably both our first choice left back and left winger, and an absolute credit to our club off the pitch. Got a lot of love for the bloke!

  19. He's worth the entrance money. Never know what he's going to do with his Go Go Gadget telescopic legs. Thought Sat was his best performance for us playing up front. Nice that he feels happy here. I feel legend status awaits. Likeable bloke.

  20. Probably as much chance of him eating our ball as there is drawing Hull away.

  21. Sometimes you have to do something different than stick to your position. Players have to take responsibility to fill gaps when we loose the ball - it should be bread and butter for a professional team. For me Like I say its great to have a player who can do something different with movement and who has goals in him. Exaclty what we need when we play the dross at this level and we haven't a clue how to break them down.

  26. Possibly the first EFL Trophy game I’ve watched since the LDV final at Cardiff. Thought we were worth the win, Wolves kids played well but were absolutely knackered last 20 mins.

  27. He's a bit too much of a free spirit. Yates made the comment about him being better suited to playing at home rather than away but I'd have thought possibly the opposite on our big pitch. He's a great finisher though, placed his shot perfectly rather than just whacking it. Fair play to Mills too. His was a lovely strike. I thought Wolves kids looked decent, had a bit of physicality about them as well as obvious quality on the ball. They tired badly towards the end though.

  30. I 100% agree, and have advocated an end to 'mid-table/existence will do' for a while. We get 4000 STs, get 4500-5000 every home game, a massive financial advantage over most, and should be firmly in contention for playoffs every year we're in this league. If we're not then questions should be asked. I don't think this is demanding. Askey's style of play though is more suited to when an opponent thinks they can attack, was my point.
