  1. Rudgie went on a run of 17 league games without a win and 7 points from 51 in 91. Bell didn't sack him. So glad he didn't. I'm not saying Askey is beyond criticism, far from it, but a bit of patience is called for here rather than a kneejerk reaction.

  2. I think we need to stick to our strengths on Saturday. So in light of VFIA's post here is my suggestion; gk - Leon Legge - some people said they didn't want to see him in the shirt again, perhaps they won't mind if hes wearing a gk shirt. rb - Manny - I am pretty confident hes never been injured before whilst playing right back so worth a try lb - Worall - the further back he plays the more room he has for running up and down. This will mean he will cover more ground cb - McKirdy - hes lightweight and so perhaps he will win some fouls on corners and freekicks - which will

  3. Jesus!!What would have happened had social media been around in the great times of our Sir John Rudge??He would've been crucified on here by some.Calm down everyone,we all need to pull together and get behind our football club.Yes,results are a disaster at the moment ,but there is one massive part of the Vale that is missing at the moment, our 12th man......you,me and every loyal fan.How many of those who were going around Burslem, carrying the last owner in pubs ,are the same people slagging of the club nowadays?Look in the mirror!!

  4. All I'm saying is that if we'd had social media then, Bell would probably have sacked him and we would have missed out on one of the best decades in our history.

  6. That could be said over any number of managers who have had their jobs terminated. The simple answer is no one will ever know if a mistake is being made from whichever side of the fence you stand. Reference above post.

  7. A number of them have been poor recently and way below their potential. I include Clark and Smith in this. And Burgess (sorry) has been largely anonymous all season long (bar a couple of games). If Askey wants to shake it up he could conceivably bring in Mills (is he 100% match fit?) and move/drop Clark. Burgess does not warrant a starting place, so it's Joyce, Oyeleke and one more for me (Worrall maybe? Hurst as an outside gamble?) The front three? Who knows? And that's one reason why we've been poor. No-one knows our best front three. Worrall probably. Is Amoo fit? But who els

  8. Cliches? I am looking back at what has happened in our club’s history and also comparing what has happened at other clubs. At least bring an argument or point of discussion instead of dismissing an opinion as a ‘bingo card’. The question is why are people so impatient. It isn’t for me to win over the fan base. I am merely voicing my opinion. That is Askey’s problem. I am relying on what has happened at other clubs who have gone on to be successful.

  9. I really hope for the sake of the club that Carol isn’t influenced by some of the posts in this forum. It is quite frankly astonishing to read the amount of negative and emotional posts wanting a knee jerk reaction. Some posters resemble headless chickens panicking. It is true we aren’t playing well and performances and results have been disappointing but to call for the manager to be sacked is nothing short of ridiculous and short sighted. I think Askey has to take responsibility but so do a lot of the players. Key players have made individual errors as well whic

  10. ive seen enough to know askey cant take us further. so one dimensional its untrue. i was right about brown, bruno and although i didnt vent an opinion about aspin......askey is just another in a long line of managers since rob page who are just hoping to sneak wins playing one up top because his recruitment was abysmal. we are going nowhere under this management. fact. over to you happy clappers.

  11. I still think Mckirdy will be a good player for us, the whole team were poor on Tuesday, can't just write him off based on a poor game.

  12. Yes. Inject it. Love this. Hurst in the hole. Pick a striker at random. A slow CB at RCB, a RB at CB, and an attacking mid at LCB. A left winger at rwb and a rb at lwb. Superb. Keep them coming.

  14. What would really benefit us in the long run would be that we find the winning form again without having to change managers. But even if we did that I suspect you would still be grouching about something

  17. In my humble opinion, our best XI is Brown, Clark, Legge, Smith, Monty, Oyeleke, Joyce, Conlon, Amoo, Pope, Worrall - and if we can field this starting XI we'll be ok but no more than that. I'd give these lads a run together and if we need to replace/change some then so be it. The problem is of course that this is an ageing team and no-one we signed in the summer deserves a regular starting place for me, though Rodney shows flashes of ability. Sadly, the rest are mediocre and we still very much rely on the injury prone Oyeleke who remains key in midfield as well as the equally injury pro

  19. Pretty sure Carol is doing her homework on our Mr Askey. She is an astute professional and our Manager will be under immense scrutiny. I believe he has a last gasp opportunity to show he can handle the pressure of league football. The lack of goals and an inability to change his formations could well be his downfall along with the very poor signings and the negative substitution issues he constantly delivers. His general persona comes across as sitting on the fence and doing right by others, i fear he just doesnt have the killer instinct and hence favours certain players as risks dont come int

  20. What ever happens on Saturday I hope the players crawl of the pitch absolutely knackered. I am not prepared to put up with lethargic half hearted performances. Its worrying at the mo wish I could be more positive I just think we lack some steel and guts. Loose this then I think we have got consider changes.

  23. Biggest ground in Tier 1 is Truro City's with a capacity of 3600. This whole 'fans back in' was a big mis-direction from the government. They're basically allowing 2000 fans back in a smattering of clubs. They had no intention of properly letting any more than that back in.

  25. If Port Vale FC were given a league position based on the amount of happy clappers around, those that are just happy to exist in League Two, then we'd be certainties for Champions League football every year.

  26. I have to say that I was quite looking forward to attending a game again. 2000 fans spread throughout all corners of Vale Park would have been easy to organise and relatively safe. Much safer than half an hour in a supermarket. You could have about 10 seats each , sit in the open air and not go near anyone. One of my highlights of a dismal summer was watching a bit of cricket at Wedgwood's lovely ground. In the open air, sun shining, the bar was open. It was glorious. Miles better than sitting at home and watching the TV. I imagine the Club are really disappointed and frustrated but

  27. Rather wait until is over anyway. Going to an empty stadium with no away fans, social distancing for the toilets, and tea bar if its even open. Being herded to your area and not being able to mix, covid stewards acting like Nazis, no thanks. No benefit for the club either, season ticket holders would be the only ones in there, we've already paid. Then the cost of stewards ,police, turnstile operators. They'd be losing more money. 2000 or 4000 is ridiculous, just let the fans back, away fans too, I don't want to sit in a sterile atmosphere, the sterile performances are bad enough.

I'm rubbish at computer games etc fifa played it once with me son got hammered so thought I'd give that the wide berth ,in fact space invaders was the last game I liked when i was younger a lot younger . We all have to remain cheerful in these dark times for a lot of good folk who are dying of this horrible disease we just being put in tier 3 and I so want get back to Vale park encouraging them wholeheartedly but it's not to be and we have to hope that the Vale rise again . My team is just a idea nothing more do you really think any manager listens or reads online forums (if they had

  31. I feel so sorry for all Vale Fan's that we cannot still go and cheer on the Valiants. Especially heartbroken for Carol, who must be wondering what she must have done in a previous life that was so terrible. I live in Norfolk now and I'm naturally surrounded by Norwich City supporters, they get home gates of 26,000, and are celebrating the fact that 2,000 can now attend Home games, such is the enormous difference between having just a handful of Fan's and none at all. This is painful. I just hope to goodness that Tier 2 is just 2 weeks away. VTID

  32. We weren't too bad away from home last season but I wonder if playing at an empty VP has had anything to do with our results so far this season. Might not have played so well every game but loosing a game by one goal in the last minute is a fine margin.

My team for saturdays must win game Brown Legge Mills Oyeleke Worrall Clark Joyce Burgess Hurst Pope Cullen or Rodney if popes still isolating . We were doing quite well with Mills in the side early doors and like see him come in for Smith who's forms plummeted along with many others ,is that the system or is the no f

I’ve always maintained that ‘wonder’ goal was an own goal as well.Butcher? slid in and put it in the far corner.Maradona would needed to have a deformed foot to put that in.I went to Buenos Aires a few years ago and visited ‘The Republic of Boca’.As good as Messi is he will never be loved in the same way in Argentina as much as Maradona. His picture was everwhere.

  38. Anyone having a pop at Carol needs to give their head a wobble. She has done more for this club and the local area in the last 18 months than any owner has done in two decades. Under her stewardship I can only see the club going from strength to strength. She deserves our trust and faith for what she has done. Results on the pitch are always transient. That is the nature of football. We are currently going through a patch of bad results and poor performances and last night in lots of ways was inexcusable. As a supporter of 30 odd years I have serious reservations about the manne

  40. I’m not optimistic, but Askey has lost 4 in a row before and recovered, so you never know. This really is last chance saloon though, and he probably knows it. He will no doubt return to his ‘tried and tested’ cautious 4-3-3. From who’s available, I’d go with the below: Brown Clark Brisley Legge Monty Joyce Manny Burgess Amoo Rodney Worrall If Amoo is still injured, then bring Cullen in and shift Rodney out wide. If HIS players can’t pull out a performance when his job is on the line, then

  43. If we do replace JA - and I'm still reserving judgement on that until Saturday - the first thing we would need to do is to appoint someone with league management experience and a track record of success. As much as I respect former successful players like Pugh and Sinclair, or even potential playing candidates like Pope, the last thing we need is a rookie manager trying to cut his teeth on the Vale. We've plenty of previous on this and it's a mistake we shouldn't be repeating. Out of the frying pan into the fire.

  44. Thats our problem C D Yes Amoo, Worrall, Montano are the three to pick from the start [ Montano full back maybe ] but their goal record i would guess would be x6 x4 x4 @ season maximum [ not their best ever but on average ] Add Conlan x 4 Burgess x 2 Joyce x 1 and we have absolutely no goals in our team. That is probably everyones best pick of our squad and leaves you one striker needing to score x 25 at least. Our better looking players cannot score enough goals. Any player replacing them will offer no more. Love the attitude and work rate of Worrall but he has ne

  45. Well vale we have really hit rock bottom against a side that have only won 2 out of 30 matches played management and players should take a long hard look at themselves. The effort and lack of basic skill our players showed last night was frightening the first goal where Smith could not pass a ball 5 yards to a team mate it went straight out of play for a throw in which led to there goal. The pass between our centre backs that led to the second watching Brisley almost jogging after the ball. Then you see first Montano on the left wing then he goes on the right wing then ends up in the middle what
