  1. If we were creating hats full of chances every week then fair enough, you could say our finishing is costing us. But it isn't. For a good few games now we've created very little. We look like we don't know how to stretch teams or engineer clearcut chances.

  2. I think some people need to take a step back and calm down a bit. First half was good. Second wasn’t great with the long ball. We played a hugely in form side whilst finding ourselves out of form. Created a similar number of chances to them, they were just clinical. Worrall isn’t as good as he was last season but he’s hardly been as bad as people are making out. Whitehead played better today than last few games but still very average at best. We are missing key players through injury and it’s still early on in the season. Last two games have definitely been an improvement on Har

  3. Just a heads up for people like me who thought the kick off time for tonight's match was 7.45. It's not! 7pm kick off. Don't want anyone missing the first half!

  4. Im just going to put this out there we need to get john askey out of our club we are going nowhere under him he is one dimensional players look clueless teams have found us out and he has no answers he is so set in his ways and stubborn to change anything even when it is crying out for it. Players shouldnt get into the team through reputation they should by form and if that was the case worrall would be nowhere near the starting 11 has been <ovf censored> diabolical and im sick to death of it as it whitehead. We are not going to go anywhere near the play offs under him so if the club has

  5. I’m not excusing us playing poorly. I’m just saying take a step back and look at the overall picture and give Askey a chance to sort it. And if you took 5 match day squad players out of any league 2 team they’d struggle. Gibbons for me would be RB and I’d play Clarke LB. Oyeleke would clearly start if fit. As would Amoo. McKirdy would be a good option to challenge the others and scored goals last year. Mills would provide competition. So yes we have suffered by losing these players. I don’t want us to become one of those teams who sacks their managers after a poor run. Look at the sm

  6. One loss of concentration cost us that game, the 3rd goal flattered them. Compared to last season Vale are not as strong in midfield, currently we're a mid-table team. The timing of JA's substitutions frustrates me but he left it late vs Salford and the sub scored the goal that won the game, talk of replacing JA is folly.

  7. I disagree. For a side with a lot of talent and a lot of possession we create very few clearcut chances. Askey's game management was non-existent tonight. Even by his standards he left his subs late.

  9. Is the loan market still open? I know we’re at our squad limit but we need someone in midfield desperately

  10. I've watched tonight and then sat back and taken a breath but I could have put my mortgage on what some of the comments on here would be. Perhaps I've got rose tinted specs but I never expected us to waltz this league or win every game or even boss every game.....I actually thought we played well tonight...tin hat on! How he's given a penalty against Conlon I'm not 100% sure but we've clawed our way back in and played some nice football. We equalise with that penalty and, for me, are bossing the game. They score a very good goal to go 2-1 up but we then play better than them and have them worr

  11. No I just recognise that’s football, sometimes you have poor runs of form. It’s still early days and we have lost Gibbons, Amoo, McKirdy, Mills and Oyeleke to injury. That’s 5 of our match day squad players. Get some perspective. People are overreacting. Sacking Askey would be like having a headache so chopping your head off.

  13. Interesting to watch their tactics first half. They tried to play down our left and get balls into the back post and gamble with their lad coming off the wing to attack the back post or when they went long from the back they were trying to hit it on to worrall and Clark. Whilst the game was a tight affair first half I felt their chances were better, Hoolahans effort off the post and a header at the back post. Ours was probably whiteheads volley from the penalty spot which he fired over. But other than when compared to them I thought that we looked far more disjointed in the final third and rea

  14. Garbage. I've tried to defend to Askey and have always tried to keep positive but his stubbornness to make a sub later on is massively frustrating and costing us points. You could see a mile off it wasn't working. Starting Whitehead was a huge mistake as well - I refuse to believe he is a professional footballer. Absolute garbage Except for Brown and maybe Clark there's no fight or ideas from these players just the usual hoofball and hope it lands. Incredibly frustrating to watch and I fear with no fans at home we are gonna struggle this season. Askey and team need to step up

  15. I’d also say Fitzpatrick is alright as cover, but he’s not good enough to be starting and Monty should definitely be playing LB before him. And whilst Whitehead wasn’t bad today he also wasn’t good, didn’t really do anything of note and I’d give Burgess another go next game.

  16. Can always count on askey tonleave it until the 80th minute to make a change when we’re losing!! Rubbish vale 3-1 now. Not good enough, infact not even close to being good enough. Another game without a goal from open play, very very worrying. Team selection again baffling imo. Whitehead must have something on askey. Absalutley terrible player. Played some decent stuff first half , second dreadful. Why has it taken until the 80th minute again to change it!!

  20. You never know he may have had some Ref lessons and be good tonight. Then we all woke up. Can see this being a hard game as Cambridge are having a good run at the moment. Relatives in Cambridge are wondering when this will cease and normal service will start again lol.

  21. The most obvious example of a ref affecting the result of a game is when Andy Madley sent off the wrong Preston player at Vale Park. Garner committed the foul but the ref sent off Kilkenny. Garner then scored twice to win the game. There are numerous occasions each season when red cards are rescinded but the result of a game isn't altered despite a team being wrongly reduced to ten men. Refs do indeed have a difficult job but to suggest that they never influence a result is completely wrong in my opinion. I want refs to respond to what has happened, not what they think has happene

  22. I completely agree with the point about Askey and his substitution times. It’s always frustrated me, but he’s always done it. It’s nothing new. We have been successful with him doing it in the past. Yes, the lack of goals is concerning but we’ve been without Amoo, McKirdy and Cullen over the past few weeks. I think goals will gradually start to come. Robinson certainly did himself no harm today. On another day, he would have scored a second with the chance he had in the second half. He’s starting to show us the player he can be. It took us a while to get into our stride last season

  23. The overreaction on here is nearly as bad as the third goal tonight! In my opinion, we played our best football so far this season in the first half. We more than matched them, we maybe just edged it. We played some really neat football, and showed flashes of our form from last season. Unfortunately, we couldn’t quite replicate that in the second half. However, I still don’t think we were as bad as people are making out. Their second was a well worked goal, with Mullin getting in between Smithy and Fitz after a great ball by Dunk. The game went a bit sloppy after this. I think we p

  24. See entire post. Wow where do I start? 1. We are 13th in mid table after 7 games and you want the manager sacked. Are you Gary Neville? We’re not Salford mate. 2. He’s so set in his ways that he even changed formation two games ago! 3. Worrall hasn’t been diabolical. Bang average. Whitehead has been a couple of times but today was bang average. 4. He’s such an uninspiring and clueless manager that he almost got us in the playoffs last season and would have had covid not happened. Actually, I was wrong. It wasn’t all tosh. Robinson played well.

  25. It’s a forum where people discuss players. If he hadn’t been crap every single minute of the season so far people wouldn’t be on his back. He is one of our key players (based on last season) he has to be far far better than what he’s showed so far. As earlier. I’d play him being a striker in the number 10 roll instead of playing whitehead. Hurst has looked decent wouldn’t mind him having a chance out wide

  26. Five goals max for a year from a class player. Wish we had a few more. Class is overstated for Worrall. The scariest part is we have no one better and so i would still play Worrall but not in our 433 or 451 set up

  27. With regard to some of the comments about Worrall on here. Remember form is temporary, class is permanent. https://www.stokesentinel.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/new-stats-put-port-vales-4191572

  29. I don’t think you can pinpoint one area, the whole team is not set up right IMO. Legge, great centre back, but last couple of times I’ve seen him he wants to play Hollywood passes. Why?? I’m guessing because no midfielder is showing for it. So inevitably the ball gets belted upfield but guess what, we don’t have any significant presence up there so the ball is basically handed back to the opposition. The midfield looks really weak, no energy or creativity just sideways and backwards passing. All those awaiting for Manny’s return, forget it, your kidding yourselves. We’ll be lucky to

  30. More than matched them for an hour but one good move and it's game over. Frustratingly the few chances we create, we aren't hitting the target enough and another keeper comes away not being worked enough. We are not quite there at the moment. We lack creativity and are really missing the oft injured Manny who's little niggle of an injury has lasted nearly three weeks now. As has been mentioned we look like a mid table team at the moment

  32. Interesting listening to Phil Sherwin and Bowers who both said the subs should have been made around the 65th minute mark when it was clear as day we were going nowhere. Instead Askey waited until the 80th minute and then the 85th before making any changes. Far, far too late.

  33. They could have saved the game though. Why are we waiting until the 80th minute to try and get level? It’s appauling management. Every game he does it. It makes no sense, 2-1 down there’s nothing to lose. Get players on that can actually change the game. Rodney and pope certainly can but not when they only get 5/10 minutes. Should have changed it at 60 mins or after conceding but instead we were treated to another half hour of whitehead.

  34. Yeah spot on. I posted before after a previous game that I think we are really missing Amoo. He give us that direct running and his end product is better and more consistent than Wozza or Rodney. I think we will be a different team with him in the side and I would expect McKirdy to find a starting place to on the left moving Wozza to the middle.

  36. It’s just <ovf censored>. We create next to nothing every single game. We only score from set pieces. Losing today early in the second half, why not change it. What’s the point in having forwards on the bench when we don’t use them? Or leave it until that 80th minute before doing anything Fitzpatrick was good at the weekend, back to what I’ve seen every other game. Not great. Whitehead was rubbish again. Just stop picking him, I’m unsure what he’s actually there for? What does he have on the manager? He has to be our most pointless and worst player for some time. Garbage and should

  38. 81 minutes to make a change when we have Pope, Cullen and Rodney on the bench and quite clearly the game was going nowhere? Sick to the back teeth of Askey. We have the squad but I'm believing less and less that he's the man to get the most from it. <ovf censored> <ovf censored>. <ovf censored> off, Askey!

  39. We are all disappointed after a defeat , but a few games in and after a defeat to the side that are top, what would be the benefit of sacking the manager. Who would you replace him with. ?

  40. Yes, we really could have done with him tonight. Unfortunately, this looks like being the story of his season.

  41. Memory tells me Vale lost 1 - 0 at Middlesbrough, some years ago, thanks to a controversial penalty that got Aspo sent off. Couple of days later, the ref phones him to apologise and the red was rescinded? But not - of course, the result of the game!!

  43. I think you're underestimating how weird people get about 'their' seats. I've seen fights break out over a seat when the seat to either side of it was free. There was even someone on here who said that he would be happy for the club to lose money by keeping a virtually empty stand open just so he could keep his seat! You can't legislate for the weirdness of people

  44. Whilst I agree that referees have often been the scapegoat at Vale Park, I can't honestly go down the route than they don't make incorrect game changing decisions. Because they do. Referees get blamed for soft penalties, when in fact the fault should often be with the defender for getting himself in a position where a referee can blow for a penalty (Brisley v Morecambe the other week for example). I get that, but you must have seen Trevor Kettle referee over the years. It's the weird pattern of behaviour that should be looked at. I've been at games he's reffed where we've been at t

  46. Overall, I don't believe that ref's do indeed make game changing decisions. Players make far more mistakes in one game than a ref' makes in a season which may result in a different result. Players miss penalties, 'keepers drop crosses, someone misses an open goal etc etc. These types of mistake change the result of the match far more than any perceived indiscretion by the "merry whistle-blower" But are they themselves indicted? As I have said on numerous occasions, the referee is the only honest man on the pitch. More emphasis should be placed on players cheating (and I make
