  1. I've been impressed with Hurst. Sure some people watch the game with their backs turned to the screen. He's caused their right back all sorts of trouble. He's a young lad developing. Of course he'll have things he can improve on. I'm sure he and the management team know that. I don't think they need FM experts belittling them on a forum.

  2. We should be aiming to win this. If the Everton game is on sky, that's a lot of revenue. If it isn't, we will still get as much or maybe even more revenue from Vale and Everton fans buying it through Vale's iFollow portal, because Everton don't have one. 25,000 viewers would be £200,000. The Shanahans deserve that money.

  3. Harsh. He set up Robinson with a great little cross which should have been put away

  4. I thought Hurst showed some promise. I think it's easy to forget how inexperienced he is. That was only his third senior appearance and clearly League Two footballers don't emerge fully formed. I think a couple more starts in the FL Trophy and he could be pushing for a place in the squad. I wonder if Whitehead has edged ahead of Burgess for the next League game? He looked really good I felt. As did Manny but I suspect the club will want to ease him in gradually and not rush into giving him a League start. Robinson was off the pace tonight but I think that's to be expected with the la

  5. Wow, JA puts out virtually our reserve side to face an unchanged Fleetwood, one of the best teams in L1. That says two things to me: i) it's a huge vote of confidence in those players and I bet everyone believes they can come away with a win; and ii) it's a strong, determined message to the rest of L1 that this season promotion is our absolute priority. Well done, JA - we're right behind you and the lads this evening. It's going to be a great game!

  6. Frustrated to lose, we were ok second half and their goal was horrific to concede from our own throw in! Very poor that. Ten changes against a side at full strength that made the play offs a league above away from home and we gave them a good test so I can’t be too downbeat... our first XI would possibly of won that. Bodes well for the season that we were competitive against a L1 side with ten changes and still Pope, Amoo and Gibbons to return to the squad so plenty of positives. Losing the Everton tie potentially isn’t the be all with no fans in attendance, the Exeter game then a week off

  7. Obviously disappointing to lose but it could be of long-term benefit to have a few free midweeks coming up. (with just 1 EFL Trophy fixture in the next 4 midweeks). Also great to hear that Oyeleke had a good game. IMO he's the best player we've got and is potentially the best midfielder in the division, and could be the difference in us finishing top 3 or not.

  8. This forum is also full of people that see THEIR arse if we have a striker that doesn't score a hat trick every game. We lost to a scrappy couple of goals with our reserve team against a 1st team in a league higher than us. Why single out anyone?

  9. Why can't people just accept that some of us are capable of criticising a player's performance as opposed to criticising the individual? It's a bit strange how defensive some get over it. Nobody is making anybody a scapegoat. They're simply observing what a lot of us saw tonight - a poor Theo Robinson performance. Doesn't mean we're saying he's a poor footballer and should be hung out to dry, does it?

  10. So is Robinson the scapegoat today with Fitzpatrick not playing?

  11. hurst is surprisingly doing well, I think some comments are overly critical of a player playing only his second game at this level and against a team a league above us.

  12. Completely agree. Looks a prospect and looks miles better than I was expecting him to be. Certainly something there

  13. I thought hurst was our best player. Looks pretty decent to me. Put one on a plate for robinson

  14. All I can say is.....well done Askey!!! That is a very exciting line up and even if we lose, he’s 100% put the right team out for me!! My God, just 2....yes TWO years ago what we’d have given for that as a first team. Now it’s arguably the ‘reserves’!!!

  15. Honestly take notice of DTS tonight I don’t know if it’s just me but he looks a really good player and someone that might be being over looked especially with burgess performance on Saturday I think he could do better than him

  16. Not sure what point you're trying to make. They pretty much are the club at this point. Which is a very good thing.

  17. Normal service resumed in this competition, as we boast the worst record in the country. No problem tonight, as players did ok against a very strong Fleetwood team.Far different than a September evening a few years ago when we witnessed a magnificent Vale 5-2 win in the league.Good luck for rest of the season John and Dave,as positive signs are appearing.

  18. He's a 4th division striker. International Premier League strikers miss chances too. The expectation levels of some fans are unreal. No wonder they're never happy! [emoji23][emoji23]

  19. Don't think there's much between Burgess and Whitehead. On tonight and Saturday's performance, I'd say our best midfield three are Manny, Joyce and Conlon.

  20. Why does someone have to be a scapegoat? The facts are he was the worst player and missed practically an open goal. That’s not making anyone a scapegoat. He was the weakest player.

  21. This forum is full of people who see there arse the second you say anything negative about a player, it’s a discussion on the game Robinson had 0 contribution for 90 minutes literally did nothing people are allowed to critise a performance- I hope that he comes good for us and proves us wrong but to me personally he looks no different to the first time we had him

  22. A very decent performance from us against a side expected for play offs. Just ran out of steam a little bit in the last 10 mins but overall very happy with that. More minutes for Manny, Monty plus nice to McKirdy show glimpses tonight. He will be a big asset for us. With Amoo to come its going to be very interesting to see the midfield selection when they are all fit. The keeper looked good again and I thought Crookes was superb at the back. If nothing else tonight has shown what an excellent squad we have.

  23. It is basically a reserve game. You simply can’t expect to beat a team a league above with our 2nd string. Even so McKirdy looks very good, Crookes has put a good shift in and everyone looks convincing. The exception is Robinson who I’ve barely noticed except for his shocking miss.

  24. Thought we might get a bit of a hammering tonight so if it finishes 2-1, with arguably our reserve team, then I'm not gonna complain. Plenty to be positive about and I can't wait to see what we can do against a good Exeter side. Fleetwood have a good side, the likes of Madden, Evans and Morris would be among the best players in League Two. We've been second best overall but we've given them a game, and more importantly given a lot of our back up players (currently) some much needed game time.

  29. Correct and the talentless Zoe Ball has had a £1m salary increase even though her number of listeners are down. She rode on the back of her father and ex husband. As someone else has said make it pay per view, younger ppl don’t watch main stream tv. Get rid of all the cosy street employees, on the gravy train with their snouts in the trough. That way the older generation won’t need to pay for a tv licence.

  30. No, you’re quite right. No one will, including myself. But I don’t see how tonight’s team selection is going to benefit a season which still have 45 out of 46 games still to play. However, it seriously impinged our chances of League Cup progression. That, to me, is the difference.

  31. Robf - in my opinion it was a shame he missed that chance - but that is not why I say he had a bad game. it was his overall performance over the 95 minutes. He seemed lost up front on his own and never caused the defence problems. Some say the service to him was not good but whilst that may be partially true his runs and calls for the ball were not there to be seen or heard. You say he needs sharpness and he's still settling in - I fully agree, but would draw your attention to another chap who that could be said about - Rodders is not sharp yet, and he is new and settling in but by God he mad

  32. Because the one that’s being singled out missed basically an open goal. What do you expect? Dosent matter about fitness or opposition. Any striker should score that.

  33. How many minutes has he played and he's already being written off? He's probably still not fully fit, and was playing against top 7 L1 quality opposition tonight.

  34. Good overall performance from a completely changed team from the weekend. Pros: Manny getting a good 70 mins - played very well... Visser another solid performance - needs to work on his distribution and decision making when the ball is played back to him Thought Mckirdy showed great pace and desire... that cross for the goal! [emoji1319][emoji1319] We looked generally like we had the game up to 70th minute, Vales changes turned the game in their favour, we really need to make sure players warn up effectively before coming on! Cons: The subs coming on at game pace, I thought Askey should

  35. I agree. He's a player that wants to play on the shoulder and run in behind but the game wasn't there for him to do that. In general a lot of the balls where just played footing in the air with his back to goal which is defo not his game. He missed a sitter yes but more importantly he was there to get on the end of a chance. If he wasn't getting in there for the chance then I would be worried. He will be better for having the 90 mins.

  36. Cullen definitely won't be losing any sleep tonight. But it's just one game and on another day he would have put away his one chance and people would have been saying that's exactly what good, clinical strikers do. Just think back to the days of Cecilia, Angus and Elliott and he'll seem like the lower league Thierry Henry!

  40. Visser manny and Hurst our best players so far. All the others are not really looking like creating anything. Mills looking very shaky tonight. Robinson not doing anything so far. We're playing 12 men tonight so need to be a bit calmer second half

  44. I get it now. We demand sovereign parliment until its not convenient to the governments agenda when its then ok to run roughshod over that sovereignty. The irony obviously being that Borises band of Brexiteers were adamant that it was the EU running roughshod over our sovereignty. This is brilliant 👏

  45. No, you were right first time. Some clubs were contacted this morning and asked to apply today to be a pilot event for the weekend. There would be 1000 fans max. No idea if Exeter are one of the clubs who have applied.

  46. I agree! We've seen, over the last few years, how certain lower League teams have soaked up small fortunes through progressing in Cup competitions. The very nature of these games - lose and you're out - ought to be more of a test of performance under pressure than a mid-season game against a side struggling for form? With the strength of squad we have now...and with players all wanting to play / get fit / get match-fit we should be able to absorb a couple of like-for-like changes to aid that? By all means, pick the fittest players - but, let's not dismiss the importance of Cup progression and
