  1. Is he better than John Stones? 😁 It is a big jump to the Championship, but even some PL players steal a wage. I suppose you need a "break" into that level. All I can say is that he went to Torquay on loan, worked hard and was well liked by fans and management, came back and has been a solid part of the team. So as a professional he has got to do what is best for him. Just a pity we cannot get a fee.

  2. the April 1995 trip to the Victoria ground to take on Stoke City. The Port Vale side includes Robin van der Laan, Andy Porter, Paul Musselwhite and top-scorer Martin Foyle. Stoke include Paul Peschisolido, John Butler, Lee Sandford and Nigel Gleghorn. The video needs a few minor edits yet but I'll pop the URL up when it's ready so you can set a reminder if you want to. If you haven't been to one of these before, "kick-off" is at 7.30pm on Monday when the match will premiere as live and you will be able to add comments as the whole match unfolds.

  3. I like smith. I don't think he's championship level but who knows with better coaching he certainly improved under Askey & kevan this year. But even if it doesn't work out for him he can drop back down no problem. At 24 he would be daft not to try as far replacing him Askey isnt daft he would have be planning for this as soon as the first contract offers were turned down

  4. The funny thing is a thought a good few rubbish players the year before, and look what happened this season, on the door step to Promotion until this virus intervened, its surprising what a good bit of self belief and confidence can do, let's keep believing keep positive and all pulling together we will succeed, up the Vale, THE SHANAHAN WAY.

  5. I agree entirely with you. I was just pointing out that he had quite a sticky spell and lost his way. Overall he has been excellent.

  6. If he wants to go all the best to him. He is replaceble in the long term we want players who are commited if his heart is elsewhere then we need to move on as well.

  7. Nathan should be able to make the jump in level. The issue is sometimes it is better to move up with a team (promotion). To do it solo, can be a step too quick. I know, I won League 2 and the EFL Trophy on Football Manager, League 1 is harder 😁😁

  8. I rate Smith, and, barring injury, his best years should be in front of him. I think he's shown great improvement this season and will step up a division easily. Two divisions? Who knows. The key thing is that even those posters who are being less than positive would have to agree that his name would be one of the first on the team sheets surely? You know what you're getting with the lad, which cannot be said of any new signing. People mention his height but I can't remember anyone dominating him for 90 minutes this season. Having said all this, we're lucky to have a ready made replacem

  9. I don't want to bash the guy mate. I'm not a boo boy. I hope it all comes good. But on the evidence I have seen he's lacking in all departments and to be honest a conference player at best. Now please do not get me wrong, I would love him to be a great success at Vale. I'd love to have eat my words. But I would not have him pencilled in as a direct swap for Smithy. Brisly can come in there as he showed. But we'd need a solid bloke to come in next to Legge as cover. Can be done. But Crookes is not that man at this time. In my opinion.

  10. On past recent form you wouldn't say that Crookes would be one of our centre halves for the kick-off. I too thought he was decent at times on the left of a back three under Aspin but at left back he was a bit in and out and not great at getting forward. That said he is a young lad and he was playing in a rubbish team and had a few injuries. He might be better for the experience and return stronger and wiser. Who knows? But on paper it would be Legge and Brisley who impressed me greatly after Xmas when he got his chance. I was worried about him because he hadn't played many games but he came in

  11. That’s very harsh. He’s far most adept with the ball at his feet for a CH than Smith. His tackling seems fine, but I’m not sure of his aerial prowess. I’m not saying he is definitely the answer, but I wouldn’t be so quick to write him off.

  13. I guess in a £50m a year wage budget it’s possible. Just mind boggling if true.

  14. Askey basically confirms he expects him to leave. "Looking at other options". Seems to be stringing us along now. He's had his time. Tell us no and off you go. Cheers Nath. Solid defender. Replaceable and we move on.

  15. I prefer centrehalves who can defend. If a player can defend and be described as ball playing I'd question why he was in league 2.

  16. Me and the missus have just renewed our season tickets. we have also confirmed to the Club we do not require refunds for the last 5 games not played. The club fully deserve all they can get to bring back the Glory days for us all. We thanked Carol and Kevin for all their efforts and continuing brilliant work for Vale. Oh we also confirmed that we do not require a refund for the 2 Oldham tickets we purchased way back(not sure if Vale get benefit from this though?). Fully appreciate not all will be able to afford similar to us and the many, many others who have renewed their tickets but wi
