  1. Taken from the UKBLM GoFundMe page...... Their mission statement reads. "We’re guided by a commitment to dismantle imperialism, capitalism, white-supremacy, patriarchy and the state structures that disproportionately harm black people in Britain and around the world." Statues today, Art tomorrow, books next week. Seems more of a Marxist organisation to me. By state structures .......further down it reads "Developing and delivering training, police monitoring and strategies for the abolition of police." Abolition of the Police ? Seriously ...Do these people re

  5. The answer certainly is not to ban potentially offensive comedy. Probably just don't go and watch live comedy without trigger warnings if you are overly sensitive to jokes about these things https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/newsbeat-46541002 There are trans/non-binary/disabled comedians out there, some do the most extreme jokes about their situations, some offer a completely progressive comedy experience. I would personally not be interested in that, so i choose not to go and see them. I would hope that the people who are not interested in potentially offensive comedians would choos

  7. The only reason Leigh Francis apologized over Bo Selecta was because he wanted to save his career. Had it been three years, he would have happily defended it.

  8. No chance will he make it to the top, best for him to come and play for us 😆 Seriously, he did well after his red card, was decent first time we had him on loan too. He is confident and a good fit to our system. He will play higher than League 2, I am sure of that. Perhaps another loan may help him to a higher league, but he still has time on his side @ 21. I imagine it depends on where Leicester see his future.

  9. Just had a lovely, long, letter from Carol basically spelling out where the club is at. Addressed to "Dear Port Vale season ticket holder", so I guess every other ST holder will receive the same email. I was quite moved when reading it. It's a lovely gesture, and if Carol, or anyone else from the club is reading this, let me say Thank You.

  12. Isn't he regarded as a bit of a maverick in scientific circles and very unreliable? To say the least! He's actually a cancer specialist, views the NHS as communist, and appeared in adverts for Trump. He's been ticked off several times for his conduct and really isn't the most trustworthy or respected of doctors. The ONS definitely reckon over 50,000 are Covid deaths. I know who I would place my trust in.

  17. Look, Jeremy Corbyn is a massive racist. Fact. End of. Papers told me. Imperialism? The Slave Trade? Mein Kampf? Got to be careful there. Don't want to be throwing around the 'R' word willy nilly. Much more nuanced needed. Imperialism did a lot of good. Hitler was good for the economy. Don't erase history. The farcical logic of the ridiculous right summed up in about 10 posts on a Port Vale forum.

  22. this is being done to a lesser degree on old films on tv, a qualifying header is shown saying "this film shows distressing scenes and outdated language that some viewers may find offensive", which is fair enough, if you carry on watching you've been warned...

  23. Don't you think it's a sign of how far we have come in 12 months when a player like Scott Brown hasn't yet got any votes and I think 1 mention on the whole thread. Cant disagree with anyone else though, I'd have 1st Worrall and then a toss up between Smith and Joyce for 2nd and 3rd.

  24. Maybe people can put their pitch forks down. Seems like hbo are doing exactly what some here have suggested should be done with such things. Don’t just read the headline. https://edition.cnn.com/2020/06/10/media/gone-with-the-wind-hbo-max/index.html "These racist depictions were wrong then and are wrong today, and we felt that to keep this title up without an explanation and a denouncement of those depictions would be irresponsible," the spokesperson said. The spokesperson added that when the film returns to HBO Max, it "will return with a discussion of its historical context

  25. My politics is very much based on the freedom to do what you want - so I'm not going to demand that broadcasters must ban certain comedians or that they must give air time to comedians that would hurt their brand, so I'm kind of ok with the BBC removing things from iPlayer that they do not want on there, that's there choice. That being said, I do have an issue when people impinge on the rights of others. Lets say a website wanted to stream a Bernard Manning set - and I wanted to pay for and watch it (I don't want to watch Manning by the way), I have a real issue with someone demand

  26. It’s one of the reasons I find It so funny, is because I can relate to it. You’re laughing at them, and at yourself at that age. There has been a a lot of talk about education on here. And what is happening is doing that. Yes Churchill was vital to winning the war and defeating the nazis. He was also racist. Baden Powell started the scouts. He also supported fascists. We all have benefited from slavery and murder. Some of these things are not nice to acknowledge about our country. Does it mean we should feel personal guilt, of course not. Though some take these things personally. Doe

  27. It isnt clear why yet though. Its still on other streaming services apparently, and it may be a copyright issue with it being on britbox now. Whatever it is, there isnt any race issues with inbetweeners. Always thought it was the closest portrayal of being a teenage boy on tv.

  28. I do get the odd email from former players' families looking to locate photos of their relatives so I thought it may be nice to have a central resource of lots of player images somewhere. If anyone has any of the missing team photos and are happy to pass them on, please let me know. It would be nice to have as complete a section as possible.

  30. Vicky Pollard possibly offended "chavs." Life of Brian is certainly offensive to the church, possibly organised religion of all kinds. But, I have to say, I find it hilarious. What does that say about me? I'm not sure. Possibly gives away my views on religion but does that matter? There's plenty of pro religion stuff about for those interested. I dont go telling anyone its wrong to have faith, just because I dont have the same. I feel the same with comedy and I guess the best way to put it, for me, would be that simply would not be funny to its audience. Not everyone finds the sa

  31. I enjoyed browsing through those. It's quite hard, I think, to get hold of much information from the early days and even a pre-war programme seems hard to find. Brought back more than a few memories and what a lot of different strips we've had - including red & white stripes! My own favourites remain the all white kit along with the black & amber. Thanks.

  32. Never seen the Trisha stuff before. Hasn’t aged well though. The butt of the jokes - the accent, body, words used, food, etc - are about her being black. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b-lnWUwm90k Matt Lucas has said he wouldn’t do a lot of the little Britain stuff now. Have people heard ‘I’m a lady’ used to ridicule trans people, or called Asian people ‘ting tong’ . Probably. Ive always thought comedy should have more freedom than other areas, especially when you consider satire, but I’ve never been able to put into words why. In the past ‘life of Brian’ was controversia

  33. I seem to always bang on about continuity in lots of posts but I think Carol has done a much better job of explaining it in that article. "It [the decision to offer new deals] was a very thought out decision. Looking at our cash flow and what we could commit to, we had to take a decision. Do we cut the costs down to the minimum and then hunker down, wait for the storm to pass and then start to rebuild a new squad. Or, did we invest in our core? "We had worked really hard, and had built that team spirit, and we could see where the players are gelling and we can look after them. Also w

  34. I know this could come to bite us, but as a cost save exercise would it not be better to promote a youth goalie from within to number two? Brown (touch wood) isn't particularly injury prone, and there's isn't much chance he gets dislodged give his form over the last two years. Maybe having a talented young lad on the bench to learn from Browny would be the best option.

  37. I might be totally wrong, he wasn't actually being offensive because Craig David was black though. As i say he wore masks of numerous celebrity types whether A list or Z list .Elton John , The Osbournes, David Blaine. Craig David was one of his wind ups because of the lyrics in his song as Warren quotes. He had a kestrel on his shoulder which was quite bizarre. There was no send up or mimicking of David being black to my knowledge. Elton John got absolute pelters on there, far worse than David and it hasn't affected his career.

  40. I think over the course of the season we've had a core of players who have in the main been consistent, I’d say a much bigger core than in the last few seasons too. I think of all those listed they’ve had many more good games than bad games, but the reason Worrall sticks out is because of his goals and assists. Overall Askey deserves credit for keeping us settled as well. Brown, Gibbo, Legge, Smith have been the mainstays of defence, Joyce in midfield, Worrall and Amoo on the wings. All that adds up promising signs as we try to build something.
