  1. To be fair when you've got Scotty Brown it's a big ask to challenge for the #1 spot. I too would also like to send my best wishes for the future to all the released players. Particularly Ryan Lloyd, who was on a hiding to nothing at Vale other than dog's abuse. Time to part ways but the stick that lad has had to put up with? Not on.

  4. He was used as an impact sub at Lincoln but left for more game time. I think he would be an excellent signing if we could get him

  5. Hi, As this was swerving a bit off topic away from the retained list to players you'd like to sign, can I point you in the direction of this new thread: The new thread is there for all transfer gossip, released players you rate, media rumours etc to be discussed

  6. I can't argue with the list. It is really tough being a professional footballer at lower league levels and I hope the released players all find a new way in life and / or a new club when that is possible.

  8. What will slow things down is any new rules/format changes. Things like the proposed wage cap and mentioned limits on numbers of players in squad. None of this appears to have been agreed yet. Lots of things have yet to be formalised. I’ve even read in today’s Sentinel the rumour of League 2 amalgamating with the National League and then going regionalised. Until the format, and any new rules are fully ratified it’s going to be very difficult for clubs to plan.

  9. Spot on. The exact 7 I would have offered new deals to. Would love to keep all 7. Compare us to everyone else, who is releasing players like its going out of fashion. We've elected to offer new deals to 7 players. We're in good hands. Thanks to all the lads who are moving on; all have played a part in our rebuild season in some way or another and never caused any problems. Seem like they have good attitudes and wish them well.

  11. Very pleased to read about the vaccine progress. Some boffins at Oxford Uni reckon they are making very encouraging progress as well so that is good to hear. i do not have venomous hatred - just serious concerns that the so called leader of the free world is behaving like an idiot. Incidentally, why did that doc on Fox News criticise the President for taking the drug?

  12. Parroted does not mean repeated. There's no point carrying on this conversation with you when you misunderstand the question. Warped! If you can't understand how you just parrot from left wing rags then you should just give up. You are oblivious to the actual situation of parroting.

  16. I wouldn’t compare him to any of those lads. More Ryan Burge. He minces around with his socks pulled down as a look at me attempt. Get on with the match son. More importantly, he’s stoke scum. You don’t risk getting done by the ref for the two handed push of Whitfield over the barrier because you want the throw in 5 seconds quicker.

  17. I get what people say about McKirdy, I was never keen when watching him. However, one of our model professionals is David Worrall, who I witnesseed (live) swing for a player at the end of the away game at Scunthorpe. People can dispute it with blurry video evidence, but I saw it, and immediately said 'that's him banned'. The bloke had been winding him up for a while and had his part to play but Worrall got a red card and a ban. Pope got himself needlessly sent off at FGR by getting in the face of a player on the ground, and he was a long-time captain and club legend. Mitch Clark put

  18. It would be amazing if we could get Taylor and Clarke back but you never know. There's been a paradigm shift with coronavirus and clubs, players and fans will all have to change their expectations. As we've seen this season, many lower league clubs are already struggling and those that have spent beyond their means are going to find that they can't cope any longer. We may also find that even premiership and championship clubs will be releasing many more players than previously and moving to much smaller squad size. So we are going to see the unexpected and attracting the calibre of playe

  19. Of course after Popey had floored him in the first week he might come into line and be an asset. If Askey made that call I’d back his judgement.

  20. I might be wrong Joe , I think Doha put a video up. He threw a Vale player over the wall at Crewe away if my recollection is correct. Nearly causing a riot. He's one of those divisive players Bellamy, Savage, Speedie for the older ones amongst us. Hate figure when he's in opposition. As others have said I don't think JA would rock the boat , on the flip side 11 goals is a great return in a middling to average Carlisle side

  21. McKirdy is the Crewe player who pushed Whitfield over the wall into the crowd at Crewe only been on the pitch 5 minutes must be a reason that Carlisle are getting shut a) Attitude or b) Money.

  22. Thanks Rob great memories. Having digested all of the memories I'm scratching my head as to where were Aspin, Kerr, Porter and Cross I know it's a squad game and injuries etc but those players were around then I'm sure . Also how the mind plays tricks I recall Jinkin Johnny Jeffers against Bristol Rovers but didn't realise how long he spent at Vale. As I've said before to you ( once we are back to some semblance of normality ) you can have my videos. Fulham away Blackpool away 4-2 Cardiff home All memorable games . Thanks again.

  25. Great day that was! It was my birthday and we went as a family - me, the missus and the two kids. Remember thinking when they equalised we might have a problem but we were just too good for them with quality all over the pitch. Foyley MOM for me, when that second goal went in right in front of the away end, it just erupted. Brilliant pitch invasion too - the kids still remember it! Thanks again, Rob 🙂

  26. I think as others have said, even the signings that haven't worked out have seemed to be good team players. A marked contrast to last season when Askey said he'd had to deal with things he'd never seen before in his time as manager. So, I suspect the character of any new signings and how they will fit in is pretty important as well as their footballing ability.

  27. Agree they were persistant with ending the league asap, assuming they would be garunteed automatic promotion and fourth.

  28. No surprises on that list. As others have said, there’ll be a good pool of players to pick from this summer. Whoever we recruit I trust JA to get good value for money. Of those offered contracts, can we be sure they’ll all sign? I’d also echo the sentiments of other posters in saying Thank You to those released players, and wish them all the best of luck in getting fixed up elsewhere. They may not have played many games between them but all have contributed in reestablishing the club and getting us to the cusp of the playoffs. If nothing else the dressing room harmony and team s

  29. I really dislike talks of a merger. Reductive, basic, sticking-plaster solution to endemic problems with the financial structure of the EFL. We exist in a system that rewards ill-advised financial gambling, risking the existence of a club on the small chance you get promoted, exacerbated by gargantuan parachute payments that perpetuate the game of 'catch-up' which clubs either engage in or get left behind, to the ire of their fans who fail to see past the next season, or sometimes, the next match. Instead of working towards salary caps, reducing the gap between divisions, the re

  30. On behalf of the whole OVF team: We’d like to dedicate this game to the memory of Mike (Old Sage) Lakin who sadly passed away recently. A respected and much loved member of the OVF community and a passionate Port Vale fan who did a tremendous amount to save the football club, he will be dearly missed by all of us.

  31. It may hurt now, but I think, long-term, we will benefit from this. We're already planning for the restart, and Carol is clear she wants promotion. We have a settled manager, settled players, and will be in a far healthier financial position than most. Our reputation is now excellent, from our style of football, development of individuals, and the 'people-first' focus of our owners. We have another season of developing our young talents (Gibbons, Burgess, Smith if he stays) and can look forward to a season of winning and fighting at the top end of the table. As we know, this is the b

My first encounter was during my first and was meant to be my only Fans Forum Originally it was my intention on that night to announce l was winding up the Club and refunding all ST monies When the meeting starting l recall a very passionate bearded guy giving me a grilling due to failures of stock in the shop I realised that night the passion of OS and many others and the rest as they say is history OS or Mike as l learnt later was one of my biggest critics but always presented himself with passion and at times with restrai
