As a long suffering Notts County fan I just want to thank the Vale fans who have taken the trouble to send messages of support for our club and very clear warnings about that evil shyster Norman Smurthwaite, who had positioned himself for a possible takeover if the club went into administration. A fair few of our fans were prepared to welcome him as our new saviour but I always believed he was a lot worse option than our exiting chairman: the loud-mouthed, incompetent clown Alan Hardy. This evening we have been taken over by a Danish consortium. Hardy is no more and Smurthwaite can crawl back and rot under his stone. Time for beer, beer and more beer. Once again a big thankyou to PVFC fans and all the best to you this season !! https://www.nottscountyfc.co.uk/news/2019/july/reedtz-takeover-statement-260719/

With regards to the Whitfield debate, he can excite coming on as a sub. Then when he is selected for 90 minutes is largely anonymous. I'll always be fond of the lad purely because had we not beaten Chesterfield with 10 men I'm convinced in my mind we would of gone down. The last 2 seasons have seen 2 absolutely pivotal moments for me. The Whitfield winner and the Scott Brown penalty save against Mansfield. Without either of those we possibly could be non-league. It looks like it hasn't worked out for him but his screamer against Wycombe and individual excellence against Chesterfield show there is a player in there somewhere

Reading and hearing things about that vile, despicable ex owner of ours makes my blood boil. I knew he was deplorable having myself met him at Notts County away and I held the door open for him, only to experience him pushing rudely past me and making me feel an inch tall. However the praise and feel good vibes constantly now oozing out of Vale Park concerning our new human beings of owners help me understand that there are genuine people still and we do have to get behind this fantastic couple to show our appreciation of extermination of the vermin from our lives. Welcome Kevin and Carol. Your efforts and dedication will galvanise the missing fan base and Vale can only prosper with you on board. I am truly a thankful and appreciative season ticket holder who will always remember your smiles Home and Away. Your love of our great Club is infectious and will prove vital in our quest to see Vale rise steadily and correctly up the Football ladder.

Makes my blood boil. Decent players who need to be playing men's football get snapped up, paid a fortune and are prepared for the scrapheap in many cases. Criminal waste of talent.

I have done some digging into this by going through every game of last season on Sky Sports. It doesn't make very good reading for Ben or your point that he can win points by himself... the truth is he just doesn't. Ben was brought on as a sub in 12 games as a sub last year (I have ignored the 90 min plus time wasting substitutions) In 10 of those games the scoreline stayed exactly the same after Ben came on In one of those games we lost points after Ben came on In one game (Lincoln) we gained points after Ben came on... But watching the video, he has little, or nothing to do with Manny's wonder goal. So points won by Ben from the bench over the season ranges from 0-3 depending on how nice you are. Of the games Ben started we Lost 72%, Won 18% and Drew 9%.... This is a FAR FAR worse record than the season as a whole.... so the Vale without Ben performed significantly better. Its unfortunate, because I liked the idea of him... unfortunately that all it seems to be... an idea that never became relaity.

The first copy of the new season (number 97) is now on sale. It will be available at the Bury friendly (if they have a team) and all other home and away games over the next few weeks. As usual it will be on sale at High Lane News and the Bulls Head. Another packed issue, still only £1. Don't miss it!

I do have have views and opinions, plenty of them. They're just different than yours and I'm afraid you'll have to learn and deal it. I tend to be short and sweet and avoid going into too much detail like others, who go a bit too far at times.Think of it as a different approach to make things a little clearer and straight to the point. I can talk and write until the cows come home(sorry, can I say that?) but time is short and I've got a lot of things to do and places to see. I look forward to seeing more of your posts and will respond if I can fit it in to my timetable. All the best. FUA UTV.

Maybe the continuous negative campaign by the media since he was elected leader makes him think he is likely to win? Only during a pre-election period does he get the chance to put over his policies, which improved his standing last time. Next time a referendum and remain stance could be as important as social policy., although it will be an election like no other with 4 parties in a system designed for 2.

At times I've watched Whitfield and been excited that he was about to be exciting ... only to be left a little disappointed he hasn't. You can either be inspired by the odd highlight or depressed by the overall mediocrity of many of his games. I suspect he is one of those players who makes a career from flattering to deceive.

All the players you would like to sign instead of those signed(as you think you would of managed the budget better knowing the exact budget) you know their wage demands and what they are like in the dressing room? Lets be fair here I am very impressed by that

I can confirm that some of the old players were "Booted" out of the match day experience. I bumped into an ex player that many of a certain age will remember, I won't mention his name out of respect for his privacy he was having a coffee with his wife and I noticed someone approach him and they had a chat re. football,as I was leaving I went up to him and asked how he was and he said he couldn't get over the fact that in his 80's he was still recognised as a Vale player and supporter, how much it meant to him and that I was the second Guy that day that approached him. I asked him if he still got up to Vale Park and he said he used to go with the old boys but they got "Booted" out by that ***** of an owner, and in any case he wouldn't have gone if he was still there even if the ***** begged.

Summary;Whitfield is an enigma and it seems that Askey doesn't have time for an enigma and has moved on.

There was a comment from the floor that the way Smurthwaite had treated a group of old players was disgusting, confirming a story that was told to my old man by one of the players himself. There is a group of 5 or so old legends that used to regularly attend and would be looked after by the club, given seats together, cup of tea, pat of the back type of thing... Norman realised it was costing him money, and told them in no uncertain terms that they were nothing special and they should pay and sit like everyone else. Many of them decided they wouldnt come back to the club until the vile owner had gone. Fortunately it was confirmed that Adam Yates (who now works with Carol) had been tasked with reconnecting with them and giving them the welcome back they deserve.

Askey had one of the lowest budgets in the conference and Macc were favourites for relegation but instead went as Champions and somewhere it was said that Askey had a squad of just 22 or 23 players. Really don't think a squad of 25 is small rather it is squads of 36 where a dozen are not even training with the first team squad and cannot even get reserve games and are essentially unfit and not needed that is wastefull. The ideal has to be at very least a squad of 22 with two for every position say plus 3 to cover for injuries such that all are involved in first team training and will get games maybe some league starts perhaps and certainly game time off the bench plus cup games and of course reserve games such that everyone is involved in the season and match fit. Personally players who are versatile are a bonus and in a compact efficient squad having half a dozen players who can play in more than one position is handy. Bennett can play on the left of a front three or at centre forward while Worrall can play on the right of a front three or right side in a midfield three.....to be able to play adjacent positions and understand the role is a sign of football intelligence. But the one thing about Askey is a conviction about the type of football and the type of footballer and the type of character.

I thinks this is a bit of a myth about Ben... can he really win points off the bench by himself? how many examples of this were there last year? He benefited from bringing high energy into games that last season were often slow and lethargic... but he often only did it for 15 mins before running out of puff.
  24. 1 point
Askey likes a small squad say 25 and under not 30 plus players....anyway the ideal squad size is probably about 25 players which would represent two for every position plus one extra for each section Defender/midfield/forward. Askey has also signed a number of versatile players with many able to cover a couple of positions but the one thing that can be counted on is that there will be injuries hence the need for at least four centre backs for example because one will be injured at some point and a matchday squad will need a centre back on the bench likewise the need for three centre forwards because at some point one will be injured and there always has to be one on the bench to change the attack. Looking at Askey's work on recruitment and the probability that Madison/Browne/Hurst get sorted then it pretty much looks like that concludes business and thinking that the highly rated Cambell-Gordon could get games as back up left back while Berks and Green-Birch could go out on loan then that is 25 players.JOB done. GK Brown/Madison RB Gibbons/Evans CB Legge/Smith/Kennedy/Rawlinson LB Crookes/Campbell-Gordon MF Oyeleke/Joyce/Conlon/Lloyd/Burgess/Trickett-Smith/Hurst WF Worrall/Amoo/Montano/Browne/Whitfield CF Pope/Cullen/Bennett Many players are versatile which is essential in a small squad if there are a lot of injuries if needs must. Evans RB/LB/DM Rawlinson CB/RB Kennedy CB/RB Crookes LB/CB Worrall WF/MF Lloyd MF/LB/WF Hurst MF/LB/WF Bennet CF/WF Montano WF/LB

Roumer has it the secret squirrels are behind it, they want to designate the ground as AREA 51 .UK. I think the mole preservation society are involved, they believe there is a big nest in the old marlhole and want to impose a no squirrel zone.

Losing possession on several occasions during a season is a risk all midfielders take.
  30. 1 point
Must be watching a different player to me. He infuriates me with the number if touches he has to have. He invariably holds on to the ball too long and was guilty of this causing us to lose possession on several occasions season. If he could just move the ball quicker he would be an excellent player.

Carol said tonight the money is budgeted and “locked away” to make the payments. Nothing to be worried about. This is a perfectly normal and standard method of buying a business and the “charge” Norman calls a “Substantial investment” is only that in the eyes of the EFL. It means eff all in reality. Norman just wants to sound important... because he is an egotistical ****.

I think the idea was to get as much in writing and watertight as possible so there’s no room for any misinterpretation. As for the documents that got removed, they’re a matter of public record at CH if anyone is that interested.

The supporters club this evening shows once again how lucky we are to have Carol and Kevin!! I know we shouldn’t dwell on the past so I will say this once... but hearing tonight how the old players were treated by the disgusting human that is Norman Smurthwaite made me furious!!!!!! Anyone who defended him on here should be ashamed... or at the very least I hope they go to sleep at night knowing they were wrong and had he stayed around we would have been destroyed as a club! No wonder nothing was said after everything came out! Rant over... promise I will move on now!!

Honestly that post is utter garbage Sage. Talk about going over a cliff edge. You are seriously telling me that we weren't fed lie after lie after lie about how horrendous the economy would be? The 950k job losses, the recession purely based on the VOTE to leave? It's all garbage, every project fear prediction has proven false. You say every "sensible" economist but what you mean is the one economist you've seen in whatever biased newspaper you read. You have ZERO evidence to base your opinions on. You refuse to acknowledge time and time again the facts when it comes to sovereignty and democracy and you simply drag the conversation back on to the economy. And your insistence on labelling everyone far right is seriously bizarre. Farage, Trump, Raab and Rees Mogg are 4 people who can think like normal people. I'm not surprised you don't like them, they speak sensible and honest opinions.

Great story. I was told earlier this week that our previous owner had an interesting way of dealing with his creditors. He would write out a cheque to cover the debt, look them in the eye and say "This is your money", then he would tear the cheque up and drop the pieces on the floor. I imagine he is the sort of bloke who spent his childhood pulling the wings off flies. Anyone who is still foolish enough to think he was anything but an unpleasant stain on the history of the club must be completely mad.
