Vale secured an away point as goals from McCombe and Shuker earnt Micky Adams’ side a deserved draw with Accrington Stanley. Marc Richards was ill, so Tom Pope came into the starting line-up while the Valiants only named four on a substitute bench boosted by the return of Lee Collins.
Port Vale were held to a home draw by near neighbours Crewe Alex as Vale fans were able to focus their attention on the pitch following all the recent off-pitch revelations. Micky Adams named an unchanged starting line-up, but former Crewe forward Tom Pope returned to the subs bench after injury.
