Recap of a frantic Friday’s activity at Vale Park
There’s been a signing, injury updates and more on a busy Friday in Burslem. Here’s our recap of the day’s events.
Port Vale sign Mansfield midfielder Harry Charsley
Following injuries to captain Tom Conlon and Jake Taylor, Darrell Clarke has been keen to bring in another face in midfield. On Friday, the club announced the signing of Mansfield’s Harry Charsley on a permanent basis.
Vale paid an undisclosed fee for the 25 year-old who is eligible to play against Scunthorpe United on Saturday.
Vale dealt massive Lewis Cass blow
The Valiants have announced that on loan defender Lewis Cass has suffered a season-ending injury. The player is now expected to return to parent club Newcastle Utd.
With James Gibbons also recovering from injury, Vale are short of right-sided defenders and manager Darrell Clarke indicated that the club are likely to move in the transfer market to replace Cass.
Darrell Clarke targets eight January additions
Clarke indicates that the club could sign eight players in January. He pre-empted the move for Harry Charsley which was completed on Friday and suggested that the club would also move to replace the injured Lewis Cass on Monday.
The club have currently added seven new faces – Tomas Holy, Joel Cooper, Kyle Edmondson, Kian Harratt, Connor Hall, Chris Hussey and Harry Charsley. Five players have exited the club – Scott Burgess, Ryan Johnson, Danny Whitehead, Danny Amos and Leon Legge.
Valiants give injury updates on duo
The Vale have given updates on injuries to key duo Tom Conlon and James Gibbons. Defender Gibbons’ injury is not as serious as expected and he is now set to be out for two to four weeks. Captain Conlon has had an injection and is expected to be out for between three to four weeks.
Rodney exits for old rivals
In a dramatic finish to the day. the Valiants then announced that striker Devante Rodney had been sold to Walsall for an undisclosed fee. The striker had been widely linked to an exit after struggling to nail down a first-team place this season.
