Loanee Lewis Cass rumoured to be exiting Newcastle Utd – will Port Vale make a move?
A report on a Newcastle Utd news website suggests loanee Lewis Cass may leave the club in the January transfer window with a number of Football League clubs apparently monitoring his availability.
Cass joined the Valiants at the start of the season and has shown a lot of potential either as a part of a back three or as a wingback. At just 21 years of age, the defender also has plenty of potential to develop further.

However, with loan spells at National League level (Hartlepool Utd) and League Two (Port Vale) the defender’s chances of a breakthrough to the Premier League squad at Newcastle look fairly remote.
Cass is out of contract at the end of the season and the Newcastle World website says that “tentative talks over an extension have taken place.” However, should Cass opt to look elsewhere the website adds that a move during the window could be a possibility commenting that “a number of EFL clubs are believed to be interested in securing his services on a permanent basis this month.”
Port Vale manager Darrell Clarke has understandably remained coy on any bids for players on loan but Cass has generally impressed this season and would appear to be a decent long-term prospect for the Valiants. It’s therefore possible that the Vale are lining up a bid for the youngster.
