A night of mixed emotions – Darrell Clarke delighted with win on return to former club
Port Vale manager Darrell Clarke admitted to “mixed emotions” on his return to his former club but he was delighted to see his team put in a “professional” performance.
Clarke was given an ovation by the supporters as his side went on to win 2-1 thanks to two Ben Garrity goals. Bristol Rovers ended the night with nine men after two dismissals.
We have to do a professional job and I have to do a professional job…
Speaking to the media, Clarke said: “Bristol Rovers fans will know that I’m delighted with the professional performance and points, but it was a night of mixed emotions and it was always going to be coming back,” he said.
“We have to do a professional job and I have to do a professional job.
“I think it was a night where a lot of decisions went in our favour and you need those over the course of the season.
“Tonight we got one or two and it swung the game our way. That’s football. I haven’t seen the incidents and I’ll have to have a look at them, but it did feel like we got one or two tonight.”
