The major sporting events of 2022 – a viewing guide
Port Vale FC look set to have a successful 2021-22 season but what do you do when the League Two season draws to a close?
Hopefully, the Valiants will close their campaign on a high but whatever happens, we will know their fate by May and then have several months to spare before the side does battle again. So, what to do in the meantime?
Well, you could look at online challenges such as the casinos offered at NeonVegas Casino and win some top cash prizes or you could turn your attention to other sporting events. We’ve got a few recommendations for you for the following twelve months below:
Australian Open tennis
The year starts with the return of the Australian Open tennis championships, one of the four majors in world tennis. For British fans, it will be a chance to see if rising star Emma Raducanu can emulate her shock victory at the 2021 US Open. Will the teenage sensation manage to make it two major victories in a row? In the men’s section, legends such as Novak Djokavik, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal are also likely to be in action one more time.
World Cup football 2022
The FIFA World Cup controversially takes place in November and December next year and controversially it also takes place in Qatar. Which side will overcome some challenging conditions and be crowned World champions? Does Gareth Southgate’s England side stand a chance of emulating the class of 1966? If they do, it will all be played out in front of a global audience of billions.
Six Nations Rugby Championship
If the oval ball is more of your thing then the Six Nations Rugby championship gets underway in February The regular battle between England, Wales, Scotland, Ireland, France and Italy is always passionate and fiercely fought out. It’s also good news if you don’t have satellite TV as domestic broadcasters BBC and ITV will continue to show all the games, allowing you to sit back and watch all the action unfold for free.
Super Bowl LVI
The much anticipated climax of the American football season also takes place in February. Expect to see plenty of razzamatazz on and off the pitch including the much anticipated half-time show. It’s very much a lottery as to which teams make it but don’t be surprised if veteran Tom Brady manages to make another appearance at his sport’s defining game of the season.
Women’s cricket World Cup
The women’s World Cup takes place between March and April 2022 and will be held down in New Zealand this year. Eight nations will do battle to earn the world crown. How will England’s women fare down under? They will be among the favourites to win but will probably have to overcome old foes Australia in order to do so.
Champions League final
If football’s still your number one game then perhaps one of the highlights of the year will be the 2022 Champions League final, to be held in St Petersburg, Russia. It will be played out in front of millions on the 28th May. Will any English clubs be involved in the final? We certainly wouldn’t bet against it.
The Commonwealth Games
Last but not least on our list is the Commonwealth Games which will be held in Birmingham in 2022. Held between July and August there’s bound to be plenty of drama and medals to be won by the various nations taking part. Look out for some world records too!
This is not an exhaustive list but we’ve also listed some other big events which will be taking place below. There’s also a string of other high quality sporting occasions including the Masters golf (April), the 2022 Grand National (April), World Snooker championship (May), French Open tennis (June), US Open (June), Wimbledon (July) and US Open tennis (September).
