Leyton Orient goalkeeper praises Port Vale owner Carol Shanahan and the football club for their response to racist abuse
Leyton Orient goalkeeper Lawrence Vigouroux has thanked Port Vale FC and owner Carol Shanahan for their response after he suffered racist abuse on social media.
The keeper received vile racist messages after Port Vale’s dramatic 3-2 win on Saturday.
The messages were rapidly condemned by the football club and Port Vale Supporters Club.
Vigouroux told the Daily Mail newspaper: “She messaged someone I know who plays for Port Vale and the messages were passed on which is a nice touch from her.
“I really appreciated that she took the time to try and get in contact and also the statement Port Vale put out.
“It really helps the situations because at the end of the day it’s not her fault.”
The abuse is being probed by the police after the messages were reported while Port Vale launched an investigation.
