It is about the response – Darrell Clarke on how Vale will cope with defeat to Sutton
Port Vale Darrell Clarke says the “response” of his squad is crucial as they look to bounce back from their 4-3 loss to Sutton United.
In a dramatic finish, the Valiants squandered a 3-2 lead to lose 4-3 on Saturday.
It is about the response. We have been on a good run and we are disappointed for the run to end that way. But we congratulate Sutton on the victory and will reboot, assess and analyse it on Monday and get ready to go…
Speaking to the media after the game, Clarke said: “You have to take your medicine. Last week we were joyous because we got injury-time goals, this week we are on the floor. But we will respond.
“One or two thing went against us and we didn’t defend enough balls that came into our box.
“We created enough opportunities to probably score five or six goals. It was just one of those days when we haven’t got the result.
“I thought we had a lot of control but they scored a goal from a deflection and, on another day, that doesn’t go in. Then we score an own goal, so we have sort of helped them on their way.
“We had one or two decisions going against us which is very frustrating but these things happen.
“It is about the response. We have been on a good run and we are disappointed for the run to end that way. But we congratulate Sutton on the victory and will reboot, assess and analyse it on Monday and get ready to go.”
