Former Valiants: Ben Whitfield joins Stockport County
Former Port Vale forward Ben Whitfield has left Torquay United to join National League rivals Stockport County.
Whitfield, who began his professional career at Bournemouth, had two spells at Vale Park between 2017 and 2019, making 72 appearances and scoring eight goals.
However, he was transfer-listed by former manager John Askey and left the club by mutual consent in September 2019.
He then joined National League side Torquay where he made 65 appearances and scored thirteen times. After his contract expired, he was linked with a number of clubs including League Two Swindon Town.
A Stockport County press release said:
The Club is delighted to announce the signing of former Torquay United player Ben Whitfield, with the 25-year-old signing a two year deal at Edgeley Park.
