Port Vale faces defeat against Scunthorpe
All cheered when Abo Eisa had a superb, long range strike which directly sent the Scunthorpe straight to victory against Port Vale.
Throughout the whole game, the Vale dominated possession of the ball, which gave a hint that they might be the next one in line for the victory. But the strategy was on point for the Scunthorpe, who were happy to sit deep and look like they are more comfortable for the first half.
Tom Conlon was proud to show off his nice footwork against a defender, but he only managed to get the ball off. The Vale was constantly looking for an opening and moved the ball around quickly to lead David Worral for a free-kick. But that also went ten yards outside the area. As soon as the ball was returned, Legge headed towards the goal but at the endpoint, the round was saved by Mark Howard.
Scunthorpe came out of their comfort zone to threaten Lewis Spence. They continued to compete for around 26 minutes with Striker Loft challenging Oyeleke during the end of the first half. Kevin Van Veen appealed for a penalty, which was waved away as the Scunthorpe and briefly pressed for a second.
Value had their share of free-kick moments by keeper Howard before the Scunthorpe broke through Eisa and cut in on to his right foot. The swift action scored, sending the ball across and over Scott Brown who made the shot.
The Value started the second half brightly as well, with the midfielder trying his luck again to go for the shot. But at this point of the game, Vale needed to change and an attack was processed by Askey on 52 minutes. The home side threatened Cullen, who tried to find the gap in the area. The latter was positioned to give a critical shot, a powerful 18-yard strike. Alas, this was blocked!
The Vale managed to enjoy a huge escape at 57 minutes when Loft got free in the left of the play area. The striker dribbled the ball low and made its way towards the far post. The keeper, keeping track of the ball, managed to cling it gracefully!
At 68, Cullen had a great chance to level the scores as Crossfield pass was played first time by Worrall and intro Montano’s path. He crossed low, onto Cullen. The striker couldn’t connect properly at the near post and the ball dribbled across. The shot was blocked before McKirdy seize the chance of a free-kick of 19 yards. At some point, a corner was headed down and forced over the line in a scramble involving McKirdy and Cullen. Since they ruled it out foul on the keeper, the goal was disallowed.
