Who are yer: meet OVF forum user Tyler B
In a revival of an old OVF column, we speak with OVF user Tyler B whose favourite Port Vale player is pictured above…
About you
Who are yer?
Tyler Beech, aka TylerB (his avatar is on the right)
Any interests away from Port Vale?
Nothing too exciting or weird! I have a thing for 80’s music and movies.
Tell us something about you others may not know?
After spending a lot of time in Budapest a few years back now, I can speak Hungarian – to an extent!
Your connection with OVF
How long have you been on OVF?
Donkeys years! (I just checked and it was 2007 – Crikey!)
How and why did you pick your username?
It used to be Beechy here, back in the day. But I’ve always hated that surname and changed it some time ago. Not that I love Tyler, but still!
Who are your favourite OVF posters and why?
Despite a few disagreements I always enjoy reading what Jacko51 has to say. TheSage always speaks a lot of sense. Although I’ve had plenty of banter, shall we call it, with both over the years, the site wouldn’t be quite the same without valiant_593 and my old nemesis Howjy04. There’s a few more I’d like to mention too and feel rather bad for not, but I don’t want this to become too cringy!
Port Vale over the years
When did you start supporting Port Vale and why?
My late Father was a Vale supporter and the first game I remember attending was a game against Exeter in a Cup, I think it was the Autoglass back then. So pretty much for thirty years now in total.
Who is your favourite all-time Valiants player and why?
I used to have a soft spot for Danny Sonner. I probably had a man crush because of his wonderful hair and fist pumping. Tony Naylor was brilliant, and then there’s the likes of Foyle, Bogie and Guppy of course. But for a season at least, Stephen McPhee (pictured) got me off my seat. Him and Steve Brooker were a fantastic partnership. Bridge-Wilkinson was also a super player and I would love him in our team now, as he’s exactly what we’re missing!
What was your all-time favourite Vale game and why?
Any time we managed to beat Stoke! I loved getting one over Crewe, especially in their own shed. But beating Stoke and then being able to gloat the following day to a lot of my City supporting mates was something else. Hope those days come back around sooner rather than later!
Port Vale this season
Where would you normally sit in the stadium?
As a kid it used to be in the Bycars. After that, pretty much wherever I was told I would be sitting with whoever I attended with!
Your current favourite player and why?
I’m a big fan of Tom Conlon. I have tons of respect for Tom Pope and all the goals he has scored for us over the years. But I’ll go for Leon Legge (pictured). A fantastic defender and a cracking pro. We also have the best keeper in League Two in Scott Brown, and he too deserved a mention.
Where will Vale finish this season?
I think we have the squad to finish top six with a bit of luck. I still think we’re lacking someone who should start every week up top. Cullen, Robinson and Pope will all score goals but I’d be surprised if any of them get above 15 this season, and feel they will share the goals around. Anything outside of a top six finish on the back end of last season and all the good vibes within the club right now will have to be seen as a big disappointment. Although in League Two you can never take anything for granted.
