Port Vale looking to add full-back – could it be Mitch Clark again?
The Staffordshire Sentinel reports that John Askey is potentially looking to add another player to his squad.
An injury to James Gibbons has left Vale short of right-sided defenders as rival Zak Mills is also injured and Nathan Smith self-isolating. It means the Valiants could be without a specialist right sided defender for their game against Carlisle United on Saturday.
Gibbons was forced off with a hamstring strain in his second game of the season and Askey conceded it could be a “long-term” injury.
Speaking about the injuries to David Amoo and Gibbons, Askey told the newspaper: “David doesn’t seem too bad but we will know more from the scan. But James’ looks more severe as though it could be a long term one.”
Askey says he may look to bring in a new player but squad salary cap restrictions could mean it would be a loan signing of a player aged 21 or under. The manager commented: “We are ringing around and trying to see who is available. But at the end of the day it is no use bringing anybody in, just for one game. If somebody comes in we want somebody who we feel is going to be a decent player for us.”
Mitch Clark, who has already had two successful loan spells with the club, could fit the bill. He is 21 years old and some distance away from the Leicester City first-team squad.
