Premier League Fantasy Football early picks
After last season’s disruptions caused by the coronavirus pandemic and disjointed match schedule, football fans in the UK are finally ready for the Premier League to kick off a fresh new season.
And while this is a whole month later than originally anticipated, fans of UK’s topflight football will know not to look a gift horse in the mouth and instead be happy to finally have the thrill returning.
Without the major leagues, and by extension fantasy football, we’ve been starved for football betting excitement for most of our socially distanced time at home and have had to fall back on other gambling outlets which offer the football themed slot game, Football Champions Cup. But with the real thing now returning, we thought we’d offer some key early advice for the season, which by all indications is measuring up to be a very closely contested one!
Leeds United, West Bromwich Albion and Fulham re-join the league this year from the Championship and the top looks to be closer than ever with the likes of reigning champions Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea all thoroughly prepared for the 20-21 season. With such a tight league in the offing, and huge early matches this season such as Chelsea-Liverpool on Match Day 2 and Liverpool-Arsenal on Match Day 3, getting solid early picks in this year’s fantasy football leagues is going to be key for getting ahead to a good start. Here are some reliable players to look out for:
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang had a fantastic season last time round scoring 22 goals, just one shy of winning the Premier League Golden Boot, losing out to Leicester’s Jamie Vardy. The reason Aubameyang looks so terrific this year is that across most fantasy football games we’ve seen he’s been reclassified as a midfielder, which will translate into a lot of winnings given his striking potential for the season!
Mohamed Salah
Champion Mohamed Salah is another extremely solid choice for midfielder this season, given his 19 goals last season on top of his 10 assists! A solid team player, Liverpool could in no way have achieved their stunning victory last year had it not been for his participation. As likely to provide earnings through assists as goals, Salah is a reliable choice for this season’s fantasy football.
Trent Alexander-Arnold
It may seem like an incredibly obvious choice, but on the topic of Liverpool, you really have to also look at Alexander-Arnold. Liverpool conceded record-few 33 goals last season, and Alexander-Arnold scored a solid 4 goals, recorded a terrific 13 assists and overall performed amazingly well. He even won the Premier League Young Player of the Season award, so that should tell you enough to convince you of his worth for your fantasy football team!
Nick Pope
Although not playing in Match Day 1, Brighton’s Nick Pope looks like an amazing choice for goalkeeper this season. Cheaper than Manchester City’s Ederson, and with only one fewer clean sheet from last year, this seems like a no-brainer! He was in fact the best performing goalkeeper of last season in fantasy football, as well as the highest scoring Burnley player! Incredibly, he even racked up more points than Harry Kane! And recently, he told a Guardian reporter of his future aspirations representing England, so he will be looking to show himself off again this year!
Alxsandar Mitrovic
For a budget option to include in your team, look no further than Fulham’s Aleksandar Mitrovic. In the Championship last season, he scored 26 goals, amounting to almost half his team’s total tally! At a cheap price point, he’s a good option for your fantasy football team, but you will need to watch out for his temperament as he did pick up eight yellow cards last season and missed four games to suspensions. On the other hand, he only missed two other games due to injury, and like the machine he is he played the full 90 minutes in every other match he played! If Fulham do well this season, you can rest assured Mitrovic will be on the field and will likely be part of it!
We hope this provides a good primer to some good early options for this year’s fantasy football. Honestly, we’re just so glad it’s finally here and hope that you all have as fun this year with it as we are looking to!
